There are many causes of seizures. I separate them into three main categories: 1. Causes outside the brain like toxins, low blood sugar and liver problems 2. Causes inside the brain like meningitis, brain tumors and strokes and 3. Idiopathic epilepsy. It is important to find out which one is the cause since this helps with treating the seizures. Tests often include blood tests, X-rays, and MRI and a spinal tap.
@@SEVNeurology we took her to the vet they said they cant find anything wrong with her. I watched dr pol. A dog had 1 on there. Can they be caused by dehydration?
Glad to hear that they couldn’t find anything wrong. With seizures, many times dogs are completely normal between seizures. What tests were run? Where are you located?
When my senior dog had a seizure for the first time I thought she was dying. I held her and cried my eyes out. Luckily she survived it and is on seizure medication now and hasn’t had anymore since. Scariest moment of my life.
My senior guy just had his first seizure tonight.. scariest thing ever.. seeing the vet Monday... but yes I felt the same way.. I can't even sleep I just can't stop worring and watching him
@@jakeslade8518 I'm so sorry to hear that.. mine saw the vet today they put him on Kepra 3 times a day, hes has had small seizure now every morning since the first one Saturday. They say being hes 11 and older and his blood work looked good its more likely a brain tumor.. and to just see how the meds work and let him continue out his life as normal ... it heartbreaking💔 i just don't want him to suffer.. I took him to a 24/7 emergency hospital today bc I couldn't get a regular vet appointment till Friday, but there was so many young dogs there with different types of cancer . One just had his spleen out due to cancer, another only 6 years old had bone cancer, the sad part is alot of people cant afford the treatments. Its so sad.. It cost me 800 just for them to take a blood test, start his first dose of meds thru IV, a 10 day supply of meds, and a nail trim.. They at first wanted too keep him overnight for observation, that was a little over 3 grand.. they told me that I wanted to cry bc I cant afford 3 grand , and I told them that but they did work with me and got me to a price I could afford.. my heart literally hurts.. I love my boy hes a good buddy my best friend.. 🐶
@@devincarter8659 Same thing with my dog Shiva. She's 16 in a couple months. She's had vestibular disease for a couple years now. I'm pretty sure her case is caused by a tumor. Tonight Shiva had a seizure for the first time. Froze up mid walk and bonked her face on the side of my bed before I caught her. Her face was twitching side to side while the rest of her body was stiff as a board. I'm going call the doc in the morning. I'm fairly sure she will say Shiva has a brain tumor. But at 16 Shiva probably wouldn't survive surgery even if that was an option. So I'm guessing we'll get some seizure meds and we'll hope for the best. In the meantime I'm doing the same as you did. I have the dog laid down next to me in bed watching her. What else can you do?
@@devincarter8659 This just happened to us on Monday night. Our senior dog had her first seizure ever and we brought her to the overnight emergency vet. We were terrified. Every night since I have been waking up to check on her. Did they put your dog on seizure medication?
1. Dont hold them down. 2. Dont cry, be calm I had a dog that had seizures because of brain cancer, her last seizure was 48 minutes long, that's the night we put her down.
I experienced seizures with my last dog. Although the vet said be careful if close because she can inadvertently bite, I stayed close to her every time and pet her during and comforted her afterward. Don't let your pet go through this alone. Can you imagine going through that and waking up without anyone near you? Stay close and comfort your pet through something like this. It's traumatic for everyone.
Yes for sure. I’m seeing a lot of comments in these types of videos saying something like “HELP IT,” or “DONG JUST STAND THERE AND RECORD” when in reality animals, especially cats, are incredibly dangerous during seizures. There’s nothing you can do other than contact a vet afterwords.
It breaks my heart in a million pieces when I write this comment. My German Shepherd, Daisy,8 years is getting multiple seizures a day. We tried every medication possible. She has not been eating past 2 weeks, just vomiting and not being able to pee. I wish her a pain free departure. Life would never be the same. Edit : RIP DAISY (14th aug 2012- 5th dec 2020). We all miss you and I hope you’re in a better world now..😔❤️
When your dog is having a seizure you need to be as calm as possible. They react to the stress at that moment and this can bring another seizure. I can imagine what is the horror watching your dog like this but remember that by being calm you actually help them to get out from that state faster.
Shoot. I cried so much and I couldn’t stop freaking out. My dog was only 2 years old and I’ve never owned a dog before so I didn’t know how to react. I’ll keep that in mind just in case.
My dog started to crawl clumsily. Then his legs stiffened and expression froze. I hope he doesn't get any worse but I will keep an eye on it. I am stressed! 😩
This was a long time ago, but in case anybody else sees this: dogs are not conscious during these moments and are not afraid. The vocalisations are just caused by the spasms of muscles in the throat. Dogs might be disorientated or sore after a seizure, but they're not in pain while it's happening because they're not aware. They can't choke on their tongue, so don't put your hand near their mouth. Don't try to hold them down (you can put your hand or a pillow under their head if they are at risk of injuring it). Just keep yourself, any other animals or people nearby and the dog safe. The best thing you can do is film the seizure, time it, and take them to the vet to try to figure out what's going on -- it's only an emergency if the seizure continues for more than 3-4 minutes, if they're having seizures back-to-back, or if you think that they may have ingested a toxin such as snail bait or rat poison. Obviously a seizure that occurs without obvious cause (such as pre-existing epilepsy) should be investigated, but try not to panic. Full body seizures look horrible, but there's typically no immediate danger. Other types of seizures include absences (dogs are not aware and may stare into the distance for a while before seemingly acting normally again) and partials (dogs may be aware and it can just be uncontrolled blinking or twitching). Not all look this violent. The dog may simply stiffen and twitch. You should record any seizure activity and make a vet appointment.
my dog had a seizure about two days ago. She was near the end of her life and had fluid in her lungs. It looked like this and broke my heart to watch. She's now in a better place :c RIP Maddie.
@@iifr4n816 It was hard to watch her walk around to find a place to die and the seizure was the thing that broke my heart the most. I actually had a dream the night she died. I was on a train and exited at a station. I saw her wander over to me and I knew that she was leaving. I distinctly remember saying "No Maddie." I haven't been able to have a dream about her since, no matter how hard I want to.
I was holding my dog and he went limp and I set him down freaking out and crying. I went and got my grandpa and he was okay after that. He had another two before he passed in his sleep. I've never heard my Nana cry so hard in my life. I was completely heart broken. Rest In Peace Mikey. I miss you and Molly. 🖤
My 10 yo baby just had his first seizure last night then he passed away straight after. I held him in my arms all night until the next morning we took him to have cremated. Never in my life I screamed and cried so much, he's in peace and at happier place now over the Rainbow Bridge 🤍
I don't know how accurate this is, but anytime my little dog has a seizure, he seems to come out of it quicker if I hold him, talk to him and love him.
Ever since my other dog passed away our dog seems like he is dreaming a nice dream yapping and running then it goes all wrong he stiffens up almost like a sideways "C" then screams like he is so scared And his legs are all stiff. We talk to him and tell him he us ok mommy and daddy are here. When we stand him upright while saying this he seems to come out of it. It scares us really bad but wen try to stay calm and tell him he is mommy's good boy while petting him. We are not worried he will bite us as he has never done that. This only started after he saw his mate die.
I had the same experience with my pup. If I held her tight, often the seizure would not even progress to a full one, or she would come out of it quicker.
@@SEVNeurology "Holding" can you provide any research that backs up this approach? My understanding for human seizures is that you aren't supposed to be holding them which constricts the convulsions, simply supporting the head. In the case of animals I would imagine the risk of bites is very high, doesn't matter how gentle they typically are when they are out of control. Seizures can be a symptom of disease for example rabies, where endemic it seem inadvisable to hold the animal.
My dog was sleeping and then she randomly started shaking and her eyes kind of rolled back and all I saw the white in her eyes. She’s being held in my lap rn but she seems ok but im scared to sleep now because i dont want her to have another one and im not awake to check on her.
I'm very thankful that my dog's seizures are rather mild and she can usually continue to stand through them. It is always heartbreaking to watch her. I hope she is able to live happily with her condition.
@@nneoma6106 mine had 4 in two weeks. I’ve begged vets and animal aid places for help and all I got was you should euthanize or surrender him. Vets here only care about the $. I don’t have money right now so they won’t see him.
My dog also has epilepsy. She's on medication but last time she had a cluster it was 10 seizures/hour. At least she is stable now. I learned how to not panic and just put her somewhere dark and calm until she calms down. She's so strong. Update : unfortunately my little princess past away due to her condition... But she survived 4 years passed her life expectancy. So I'm very proud of her 💕
No it’s better cause if you don’t they can just fling there self into an object and injure themselves badly and it can keep people and animals from hitting things with there head and it protects them from falling objects if they hit a table
As I can remember, even my dog had seizure. It happened in December of the last year. A (probably) week earlier, my dog began to have problems with peeing. He also almost wasn't able to walk, he didn't want to just make a few steps. Usually, there were a lots of urine puddles all over the flat. It felt really terrible to only see it. He was in huge pain. As the days went by, my dad got an idea to take him to veterinary. That evening, we were siting in waiting room. My dog was in front of my eyes and connected to the drip. Suddenly, he got a seizure. It was pretty terrifying and very emotional experience to me. Then on January 19th this year, my dog passed away in consulting room. What was actually the worst and best on his death? The worst was, that I was there with him and saw my dog dying. The best on his death was, that he finnaly feel anything. No pain, just nothing. Rest In Peace, Matthew. We all miss you. 🥺🥺🥺 (January 31th 2008 - January 19th 2021)
Seizures are a perplexing disorder. Brain damage causes seizures or seizures cause brain damage? A diagnoses can cost you thousands and are not definitive. Treatment is also a "best guess."
To all of those experiencing this it is beyond terrifying and truly so disturbing but do your best to hold their heads and support them ( unlike this last video) so they do not hurt themselves further. Keep them calm and stay calm. They typically only last a few minutes. Neurologists can prescribe medication and they are lifesaving. My toy poodle Brutus was on Levacetam for many years and lived a perfectly happy healthy life.
Omg the last video was awful to watch how can they stand there and film their dog but not sit next to the dog and talk calmly to the dog to reassure it. My dog has had seizures since he fell down the stairs in 2019 and had thousands of pounds worth of tests and is now on the same meds as your dog and he lives a full active life. When he fits I make sure he can't hurt himself and i just stroke him and tell him he's a good boy and wait for him to come out of it, it takes about 20mins from start to finish then I give him a doggy biscuit just so he's got something to eat for energy. Good luck to you and your dog.
@@melaniehewitt3899 I agree with you that you should be speaking to them and comforting them, but my vet asked us to record seizures I beleive to see what it looks like, but that was asked for in the early days of his seizures

My baby dog was having a seizure at this very moment.. it's really heart breaking to see them suffering. But as i watch plenty of advice about dogs having seizure i try to stay calm and wait for them to be okay.
i massage my dog during seizures but I know he is safe. Be cautious. At the very least TALK soothingly to your pet. They can hear you and just the sound of your voice reassuring them can help them through it.
It’s so heartbreaking to have a pet go through seizures. You can’t do anything but wait till they’re over.... I had to put my sweet big baby down Monday because of it. His seizures got out of control and I just couldn’t have him go through that quality of life anymore. It’s a very hard and personal decision but if your dog gets worse, I just didn’t see any other options that I didn’t take.
I’m in the same position and I love my little guy he is only 3 years old but I don’t want him to have a bad quality of life. He has had about 7 seizures in the past 2 days but they are very minor I took him to vet and now he is on medication I pray he gets better because I love him so much and he is such a big part of my life. I watch these videos and read the comments and it somehow brings be comfort knowing I’m not the only one going through this.
I thought this video was going to show people how to handle a dog in a seizure. The lady did well with the first dog. I had a beagle who had seizures. You don't stand across the room crying, while your dog is fighting a frickin' seizure! You go to your dog, support him, and make sure his limbs are not in a position in which they could be broken or dislocated. I got my dog on his side and gently held him next to my body if I could safely get him in that position. Other times, when I caught him at the beginning and he was in a sit, I sat behind him, straddling him and held him up so that he wouldn't fall and get his legs into a compromising position. Eventually, I learned to predict seizures and I was able to lessen the severity and sometimes prevent them all together by going to his side, holding him, calming him, and projecting love and compassion.
I lost my bichon a couple weeks ago to seizures and I still can't get over it. Update: It's been almost a year now and the pain still sits. It's not as pricing as it was but its still there. He's still being remembered as the fun, happy go lucky dog everyone knew.
You were there for his whole life and thats something I like to think about because even though he's in the heavens, his life was amazing because of you. I hope he passed painlessly.
Vet tech here. Despite all of your instincts, keep your hands away. I've been bitten multiple times before by dogs during seizures. Not there fault. They can hurt you and themselves. Only thing you can do is make sure there's nothing around them they can hurt themselves on. If you have to move them, stay away from the mouth.
yalls need to calm down quit freaking out its going to make her have more and more sezuries these are eliptical sezuries which means the body moves at the same time why because the brain is getting signals rappidly
I Had a Seizure before.Trust me it was weird I will tell you what I saw this happened like 2 years ago.I saw like a bit of a people raceing thing,It was weird I started with one of my friends, you can find her on RU-vid,She’s a Minecraft person,She’s reinunicorn927.But I will catch on to what I saw.they went in a tiny circle ⭕️ 👩,She was slow at first. The more you went around the circle she/he would get faster,Plus when they went around the circle they would get bigger. So I was a starter,Mine was small.I looked at the others,I felt dizzy.Everything was getting blurry. Your right she needs to clam down pets senses there owner so by her acting up 8t only makes him worse need to relax and try to hold i find out holding my dog and taking to him softly helps cut the seizure time to half they love us they depend on us they trust us so there power comes from the way we act

I woke up this morning at around 7:20AM and my dog Bailey was on the floor of my room having a seizure. I was so dazed and confused that I didn’t know he was having one for a whole minute but I tried to keep him on his side. It was heartbreaking to see him running in circles in an unbalanced fashion the house crying afterwards. Been with him the whole day and when things seemed to get better after a few hours I let him out in the backyard and he had another seizure. This time foaming and running away from me before collapsing. I don’t know if anyone will see this but if you do I would appreciate any prayers for him. @Central Intelligence Agency You're not supposed to *hold* any part of an epileptic patient, you could injure them. That's deadass the *first* thing they teach you when dealing with seizure cases
Even watching this, made me cry my eyes out. Thank you for sharing this video It helps us a lot educating ourselves and practicing the way we should deal with that situation. I hope both of these dogs are fine now. I know it's hard to be strong and positive but I hope you ( the 2 crying girls) feel better❤🧡
I work with dogs and experienced one having a seizure for the first time. Trying to research more so I can be better at handling those situations (tho I think I handled myself well by staying calm, getting help, and comforting him once he settled back to normal)
My dog had one due to low blood sugar, when this happens the best thing to do is keep them somewhere where they cannot hurt themselves, and leave them alone, give them space, and it’s also a good thing to record so you can show your dog’s vet the video so they can understand what type of seizure it was and the duration
Last night i was laying on the couch with my dog Griffin. He started shaking and crying so i woke my dad up then Griffin pooped and he was drooling everywhere. He started breathing slow and we let him be. A few minutes later we checked on him and he was not breathing. I was so sad today and i will never forget about him. My dad buried him today in the yard. I miss him so much already he was such a good dog.

My little girl has been having seizures on and off for the last 3 years. Our vet told us to put an ice pack on her stomach, massage pressure points behind her ears and give her a tsp of honey. I always comfort her,pet her and talk to her throughout the seizure and thankfully she’s not had one that’s lasted longer than 5 minutes. It’s a truly heartbreaking situation but just be as calm as possible and of course it’s good to have a second person to bring the ice pack and honey while you are massaging her pressure points.
Staying calm is the best thing you can do, staying calm with let your dog know your ok, it will also allow you to take controll of the situation because you can think clearly, if your crying or panicking it’s harder to calm your dog down, 3 easy ways to tell if the seizure if done, if the dogs hacks up spit or Flem, if the dog barks a few times , or if the dogs starts to cry,
2 days ago I lost my senior boston terrier. 13.5 years. Never issues and woke me up at 3 in the morning having a seizure. His were longer and much more violent than the video. He got up in panic between them and ran around aimlessly. I couldnt stop him. He had about 4 more seizures until we could get to a vet. We knew he was gone. After the last seizure he kept doing the same thing over and over. Kicking his back legs and turn to one side. He was like a broken computer at the end. We were fortunate enough to hold our beloved boy while he was put down.
After a years of experience with a dog with seizures the best thing to do is to comfort them during and after, and My family has realized hand feeding them their food and keeping a fan on them when they sleep are some of the best ways to prevent them.
My Great Pyrenees Mix pup ( 10 months ) had his first seizure yesterday and two today with once while at the vet and it broke my heart , I’m so sad - he’s such a good dog .
I lost my childhood dog Lola to seizures , One morning she started having a seizure and didn't stop but by the time she stopped she was really hot and the veterinarian said she has brain damage and had to get out down
you are DEFINITELY not supposed to touch your dog when they are having a seizure. unless it is close to a dangerous object or stairs, let the seizure happen and calmly speak to the dog in a soothing voice. getting anxious and crying will only stress the dog more, and might cause another seizure.
My little guy had to be put down because he had an hour long seizure. He was only 8. I am so heartbroken. I cant sleep or eat right. Im depressed and feel really empty inside. It was so sudden. What a powerful bond dogs and humans have. Very special. Rip marco.
Never do what those people did in that last one, always be at its side to know it can relax, and know you are there for it, also, I had a vet tell me it’s scarier for people watching than the people having
What are you talking about? That's EXACTLY what you do. The dog is disoriented and terrified in that state, touching them or holding them down makes it worse and CAN injure them. Do NOT touch them, there's nothing you can do to stop it, so stand back and let them get through it. Comfort them after the fact, not during. Please do not tell people false information that can potentially injure their dog. Best not to speak about things you don't know in the first place.
Why would they NOT go be by the dogs side? I have had 3 dogs whom have had sezuires and you never just let them flop around like that last viedo, You need to stay calm and talk gently to them you do not just leave them on a hard floor like these people did like wtf?
Wow as I watch this I am reminded of my dog she died about two months ago because she had about 9 or 10 seizures in our home before we could take her to the vet and the seizure caused total paralysis in my dog she became imobile and weak and when we took her to the emergency clinic they did all they could to keep her alive but she had more seizure which caused brain damage and caused her to die and as she was having her first few seizures I did not know how to react and I held back my tears because I thought I was staying strong for my family but when i felt that she had no heartbeat the next day after they called us to view the body i just broke down. I just want to say to everyone who has experienced this and those who are still experiencing this stay strong I know how it feels and to those who lost their bestfriends due to seizures like me I send my love. The two kids crying and panicking behind the camera was really hard to listen to 💔 Poor things. You can tell they really care about and love their dog. That must be incredibly scary and difficult to watch.

ALWAYS secure your dogs head and lie them on a flat surface until the seizure episode subsides... my philippine (aspin dog) summer(her name) starts to have seizure episodes when she's 4 month old after her anti rabies vaccine was given.. until then 7 consecutive months she was having seizures ranging 1-6 times per month.. and the most scary episode she had was this last november 2022 that she needs to be given muscle relaxant(i forgot the name) and put her to sleep and she was hospitalized for a day and given a lot of different intravenous medications... she had 30 seizures that day and i was so afraid i might lose her because she became pale real quick and needs oxygen support that day but i am thankful that my summer is a fighter and it's almost 4 months after and she's so energetic and eats a lot but i can't take away the thought that her seizure episode will come back..
My 11 year old dog had two seizures about 4 days apart. She passed after then second seizure. Its a horrible experience for the owner. There is no way to comfort your dog during a seizure. Of course after the first seizure I was there to comfort her. For about 5 minutes she was disoriented and searching rooms in the house. 10 minutes later she was fine, and told me that she wanted her afternoon meal. What I find confounding is possible seizures that she had that I did not witness. I could have been running errands or simply in a different room.
The last seizure my dog had took her life after about 6 hours of non stop seizing. In the middle of the night on the weekend when no vet was available and I couldn't even put her out of her misery. Absolutely devastating!
My dog Peaches was born blind, she has a deformity of the eyes. I adopted her when she was 14 months old her people parents didn't want her, just handed it to me and was like get her out of here. So I fell in love with her within like 20 seconds. I was running a not for profit Pug Rescue the time, and she was so sassy, cute happy funny puppy but I knew nothing about her so I took her to the vet that was helping us with the rescue dogs. She was diagnosed with a birth defect to her eyes called Collie Eye. Her eyes are flat and white like they have cataracts they are sunk in and she still beautiful but they are devastating to look at. She can't see anyting. When she was about five she started having seizures. I talked to some people and they got me turned on to this CBD oil for dogs. She did well but she still had seizures so I decided to just not give her the CBD oil anymore and start being her a natural diet rather than dog food. So when that came about I learned a lot about canine nutrition. Around the time when she turned 7 there was one that lasted over 5 hours it was a cluster seizure and it would not stop I was devastated I was with her the whole time. At the end when she stops using I got in the bathtub with her. I kept seeing her name and rubbing her and trying to stimulate her and she just kept slipping under the water he was completely floppy and just gone. The only sign of life was her breath. I tried her off and took her out aren't you the futon that they sleep on and cuddled her. She didn't move for three days unless I would pick her up and move her towards the food bowl out of the water and then she would eat or drink. All the sudden on the third day she got up and started walking around. This was not my peaches this was some dead forum zombie of my dog. After about 3 weeks she looked at me and barked and they knew that she was back. Cried so hard and everyday and I'm with her I know is a blessing she is my little angel sent straight from heaven and I'm going to freak the f*** out when she dies and I'm scared that she's going to die in my arms but I will not leave her ever I don't care if I have to stay home with her and lose everything. Peaches Jean will always be my top priority and I don't care what I have to do but I will always keep her with me and make sure that she is as safe as she can possibly be. Dogs live your short lives and you have to make them the best that you possibly can while they are here with us.
For the second one you need to stay calm and go to the dog's side. Make sure if they vomit they don't aspirate or that they don't move into a position they can hurt themselves in. When a dog comes out of an episode they can be very confused and scared and need a lot of reassurance.
What kind of dog and how old is she? If she had a cluster of seizures, it is typically recommended to see a vet, look for the cause of the seizures and start medications.
I think putting a hand on the dog and projecting calmness and talking to them quietly so they know they are not alone in case they can recognize anything is a good thing. Holding them hard to restrain their motions is not what I would do but I would make sure that the dog does not hurt itself.
When my dog first had siezures she had about 17 in 24 hours. Very similar to the second dog. It was a bit of a balancing act with her medication dosage and she had a second seizure cluster 4 months after but now her dosage is sorted she rarely has seizures at all (I believe her last one was half a year ago) and has scans yearly to check the dosage/effect on her liver. Best wishes to the owners of those dogs though. It's never easy seeing them go through that.
The S.S.G. Most seizures are self limiting like the ones seen here. Make sure the pet isn’t near a hazard such as a pool or stairs. If seizures last more than 3 minutes or if there are multiple in one day, take them to the emergency vet or neurologist right away.
As a human with epilepsy, the thought of having a caregiver put me down over it for that alone is terrifying. Some people might not realize that dogs with seizures can be managed like humans can. Meds like Keppra exist for dogs too. I would also look into VNS devices for dogs which work better. I personally have one and will be weaned off drugs over time.
i can assure you nobody wants to put own a pet. normally people wait for vets confirmation that there's nothing they can do and that it should be put down
(english isn't my first language sorry for any mistakes) vet tech here. there can be multiple causes for seizures including stroke, liver/kidney/thyroid problems, brain tumors etc.. not all can be treated so easily or even at all
@@Nikkie943 the first issue I'd look at especially for idiopathic epilepsy is sleep-breathing disorders. Narrower upper airways have been noted in a lot of people with epilepsy.
My senior chihuahua had 2 in my arms yesterday. It was awful as I cried my eyes out talking to him telling him how much I love him and then rushed him to the only emergency er that was open. Blood work showed It ended up being his blood sugar was so low(25). He is at his regular vet today and is being monitored as to what I need to do to help him throughout his remaining days until we have no other alternative. My heart breaks for the girls in this video. I pray all worked out for your beautiful baby 🙏🏼
To all dog owners reading this comment: The woman in this video handled the situation almost perfectly. If your dog is experiencing a seizure: 1. DON'T PANIC! I know it's tough to see your dog in that state, but he is not in pain. 2. If possible, note the duration of the seizure; this information is valuable for your vet. 3. Ensure that you are in a calm environment. Dim the lights, turn off the TV, move potentially dangerous objects, and keep children away. 4. Do not touch your dog, and, most importantly, keep your hands away from his mouth (a mistake made by the woman in the video). You can place a hand on him and speak to him calmly to reassure him. After the seizure is over, let him regain his composure, and then promptly visit the veterinarian. Seizures can last from 15 seconds to 2 minutes, so don't panic, even if it seems endless. Your dog is relying on you!
The person sobbing in the second clip hurt me. My family dog-who has been my best friend since we adopted him years ago-has had newly arising aggression issues due to what my mom thinks is minor seizures and I have felt that pain, maybe not in the same circumstance given that he doesn't shake visibly like that, but similarly. The pain of knowing your pet is hurting and when you brought them home you signed up to protect them always so it feels like you're not doing enough. Especially since the aggression doesn't allow us to comfort him. I just want my happy old dog back.
I just lost my beloved pup today. His first and last seizure was like that of the first dog in the video. I've considered him as my best friend since I just lost my mom to Covid. I guess I don't know how to process grief anymore. I am beyond sad at this point.
Hey man keep your head up! I’m going through the same thing I lost my grandmother to Covid last year and it was devastating she was like my mom and now my beloved 3 year pitbull is having seizures he is the best little guy ever I love him so much it hurts me seeing him go through this but I pray he recovers and can live a long life. I don’t want to put him down 😕
@@entaagalliu8745 thank you man I’m sorry about your mom and your pup but all we can do is remain strong and positive! Much love man thank god my dog seems to be doing better and he is not on the decline I’m at work rn but super excited to go home to see him right now
I have been watching a lots of videos from youtube to help my dog... she's was shaking , trembling from morning she looks tired her mouth was super dry...we had given her 3 drip but it was useless...and she just pass away now...it's so sad that I won't be able to see her again...call her again but this is how life goes on we will meet again in heaven Rest in peace my Laxy...I miss how much you want to cuddle with us ❤️
My pup has had epilepsy for the last 3 years. She had a seizure last night. My best advice is to let the seizure run it's course while CALMLY petting your baby. I feel like they feel the comfort and the tension will slowly die off. Don't over-hug. Just trust that your love will bring them out of it.
My Shih Tzu is 15 years old and just started having seizures - the first one I freaked and actually called everyone saying I think he is dying… Then was shocked when he popped up like nothing happened…. Since then he has had about 5 but it does seem like each one is getting worse - usually he can’t control his bladder but yesterday he also couldn’t control his pooping… We thought this was it, after 15 minutes he was confused but seemed okay by morning… I haven’t taken him to the vet because of cost and he is 15 but my heart is breaking at the thought of losing him… No kids - he is my fur baby… 😢
My dog had 2 seizures in less than 5 hours. The first one was horrible. I called everyone quickly to give her their love but she was able to come out of it after 2 minutes. Then she had another one in her sleep which wasn’t as bad in our mind but it was nevertheless so heartbreaking and painful to watch. My poor girl! She fought and fought but i put her down today 5/25 ay the age of 10 Bella was my shero 😢❤❤
Do not give head support you may get severely bit! Try to move to soft ground, but avoid touching, they are not themselves or present when having a seizure and may lash out
That second one had me in tears. Listening to the family crying. I had to look this up because my dog was twitching a little bit, but nothing like this. I actually have epilepsy, but thankfully I have not had a seizure since two thousand four. As of right now, I think my dog is okay.
One of our dogs, named Rusty, once had a seizure, but it was less like a genuine seizure, and more along the lines of him just "seizing up". No spazing. No pained howls. None of that. It was still scary though.
Same as what my dog is having. I’m so so glad his aren’t like this. And I so pray to God they never will be. It was so scary just seeing my doggo seize and his eyes get big and disoriented :( I never realized how horribly awful they are to witness.
damn man it sucks to see these dogs like this bro. I have a friend named Frankie and he was a mad minecraft player on the good ole 360, he would spend all day everyday playing games. Frankie woke up one day and had severe pains in his legs and they thought it was cramps and growing pains because he was only 12 at the time but this used to occur every few hours but they never knew he had epilepsy. These pains would come for 15 minutes then go away for 1-2 hours then come back. But then they started getting worse by the day. He then had to be air lifted to brisbane because it was very bad and was only getting worse then they later diagnosed him with epilepsy which is really really upsetting but look, all that time he could've been out with his freinds and making awesome memories around town he instead sat inside playing games so please take his advice and do not sit inside and play video games all day please go outside and hang with your mates because your mates wont always be there and all that time he wasted playing games and you dont realise that you wasted all that time doing something pointless until something completly random like this happens and then you cant go out and do normal things like ride a bike because you're afraid you might have a seizure.
My puppy was 4 months old, and he is no longer alive due to seizures. I love him very much, he was very innocent. I am missing you my baby my love my pillu plzz come back i am waiting for you 😫😭😭😭
Same here n because I Dnt knw abt seizures I thought he died ,foams on his mouth ,very stiff 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️my Neighbour said it’s dead even tday I think so 😭😭😭😭pls cme bck MERCY I MISS YOU 😭😭😭
so many comments saying stop crying. how are you supposed to not cry when seeing what some people consider their own child suffer? not everyone can bottle it up.
It's a horrible thing to witness. You just have to talk them through it and try to comfort them. I hate it and it's so hard to see a wonderful and gentle dog go through something so violent. 😢
My Dog had a seizure. It was very hearbreaking Moment for me. I love my dog very much. He broke my heart in million of pieces Edit: RIP "Stuffy" (9-03-2015 - 24-10-21). I miss you very much 😭
My 8yo Pittie had her first ever last month. We went for a brief walk and when we got back to the house she stood still, got "stiff-eyed," pushed back on her hind legs, fell, and started shaking. Scared me silly. She came out of it shortly after and started to walk/run like nothing ever happened. Two weeks later i walked her again and the same thing happened, this one was even shorter. Yet, she stood up and walk off like nothing happened. I was much calmer this time rather than the first. I took her too the vet and her bloodwork was fine. While en route i was fearful that she would have another but she didnt, not even while being nosey at the vet's office 😊. The doctor said he wouldnt put her on meds unless she as another or two, suspecting shes just overly excited about being outside. She has not had one on the house since and im afraid to walk her again. The doc said to shorten her walk to only a few minutes but I am scared. Its sad to see her that way. She's had no change in behavior, her eating or drinking. Its seriously like nothing has ever happened.
Damn, it's hard to know if they're really having a seizure most of the time. If a pet owner is not very aware of these happening they might just guess that the dog is playing around but the be really having a seizure
this happened to me as a kid with one of my guinea pigs. thought she was being silly and weird because I was a dumb kid, was a massive shock to me when she started choking to death. it truly is scary to witness
My dog has generalised seizures. This is when the seizure is that of the first clip but he can foam, deficate and urinate during or just after. All I can do is to try to keep him cool (open windows/doors if in the house) crouch down behind him if there is space (incase i need to get away) and protect his head by putting my hand underneath and sometimes with a folded up towel if I can get to one to stop his head bashing the floor multiple times during this episode. I can control him better to stop him pushing himself into things if needs be. I never hold him down so he has the freedom to move how he needs to during but i will protect him from bashing into things if he moves or flips over. I talk to him in the calmest most gentle voice saying "its okay, its ok" to soothe him through the seizure (even though he is unconscious) and until he has fully come out of it. He is dazed, confused and wobbly when he gets up so is very important to keep a calm environment with slow gentle movements to do my best to not send him into another seizure as he is very nervous after the episode. Thats all anyone can really do when this happens i think. Some say to leave them and get away/ close them in a room to protect the kids and yourself which is fine too just make sure they cant further damage themselves if possible. Its not nice to see or have to live with and everytime it happens my stomach is in my mouth with worry. The seizure itself lasts around 30-45 seconds but this is the longest 30-45 seconds of my life everytime. I hope this can help at least one person until they get help from a vet! Love to you all ❤
I have a Welsh collie with epilepsy believe me when I say stop this talk about comforting them it’s utter rubbish they are oblivious to you let them fit whilst obviously removing any hazards.. let them walk it off when they are out of the faze and all will be fine .. our vet prescribed meds 19 months ago and he’s not had one since which is amazing!
I know this sounds cruel but that seems like a good outcome. Research on human memory shows that strong emotional responses vastly increase the likelihood of long term retention. It is heartbreaking to watch, but like you I'll never forget this.
My Boston Terrier Had a Brain tumor then started slowly losing his eye sight then walking in circles. He went through this for the last moments. It got bad fast he was put on the meds . Then he was just dopey. He could hardly walk or eat. He lived a good and happy 13 years of his life. I was fortunate to be part of it. Today I said goodbye for now to a friend . Gobi You were loved and will be missed my friend .
Hey, heres a couple tips: light stims the seizure. So dark the room. Putting a blanket over them helps alot because it creates a dark environment and the weight of the blanket comforts them, put a cold bag of ice on the lower spine right under the ribs and hold it. This will shorten the duration of the seizure. CBD oil help a crap ton aswell alot of the time prevents a seizure completely. You can buy them in spray bottles and just a couple sprays in their mouths and they will calm down a ton👍🏻
Thank God for the Internet and these videos . I just encountered the first seizure of a stray dog ( that I take care till I find her owner ) , in my entire life! I did not know what to do and I was not sure how to approach , but I read some of info on the Internet saw these type of videos and I calmed down a bit. She also had urination ( another sign of having a seizure ) .She is also in time of mating , if I am writing this correctly .
I have epilepsy and me and my boy used to take our meds at the same time everyday. He was almost 11 and he had a tumor so we had to lay him to rest in April 2018. Mans best friend. I died in August 2018.
