@@christiankirby8092 what? Wtf?? It's not only viable it was COMMONLY DONE. It's in almost EVERY European swordplay manuscript and even the japanese and Chinese have it on their manuscripts. So wtf u in about? Or you like most out generation talking about something u don't know anything about with complete confidence of the ignorant kind? One of the most typical thecniques of defense and counter was to step on the sword or just plain old GRAB IT with ur armours gloves. Good against swords (specially European swords) and spears and hammers. Not so much against halberds
@@christiankirby8092 What I thought as well, but just last week I've learned it's an actual thing you _can_ do in close quarters. I was equally shocked and excited to learn it's real.
@@laszlogasd Using hands would be more practical than using legs. If you messed up not only will you be open for a counter attack but you could lose your balance, and your leg.
that's what sword-fighting is supposed to feel like in this style it's meant to feel like you're almost performing a dance to the death with your opponent.and it's done beautifully
I know people say the Isshin fight was the pinnacle of the game, and it absolutely was, but the castletop duel with Genichiro was the peak of sword-on-sword fighting with little extra abiltiies. You didn't have many tools, and Genichiro doesn't have as many almost-magic techniques as isshin. It was pure blade-to-blade dancing, and it was glorious.
@@ohheyitsollie2481 Just don't hold directional movement, and the default teleports you straight up. Otherwise forward, backward, left, or right keeps you on the ground and you'll instantly take the lightning damage since you're touching the ground.
@@ThurrakWell they now have 6 armored core games... we might get 7 sooner rather than later. I feel like there's a bit of a burn out when it comes to souls-borne games. After elden ring gets its DLC I think that'll be it for a while.
@@JM64they have way more than 6 armored core games try over 16. And they usually make a 6.5 version so expect armored core 6: (insert something witty here that relates to the number 6 or Roman numerals for 6)
Whats more impressive is that he manage to perfectly deflect the combo of genichiro, not easy to do because you mess up once your health bar is on life support
@@titanus261 it's pretty impressive indeed but not veeery hard, the best thing in sekiro is that once u beat a boss u become a master at defeating him, i struggled a llot against isshin but now i can beat him sometimes without even getting hit once
@@Ulquiorra_Cifer not you didnt get what i mean, i mean deflecting the "entirety" of his combo, at some point he somehow manage to always have a hit thats blocked but not deflected.
@@2gee033 Not sure why you say that. The shrinking timing window with successive deflects means that the penultimate hit of the combo is almost frame perfect to deflect.
@@2gee033 Sure when you are playing with Kuro's charm but try playing without it and you'll know exactly what Kieran Kaempan meant, it's next to impossible to perfectly deflect all the flurry of attacks. On the regular difficulty it might seem like you are deflecting all the attacks because it's so fast that even the game is failing to give you the correct feedback of whether it was a successful deflect or not. But @Kieran Kaempan I believe he is using auto deflect mod, not sure though just an assumption.
Favorite boss fight in any game is easily genichiro. I swear that fight gave me a feeling I’ve never had in any other video game. Pure flow and ecstatically pleasing fight.
It whooped my ass my first playthrough and I was dreading it on my 2nd but then it all clicked for me and the 3rd and 4th playthrough it became my favourite boss fight in any game all time
@@gabe7362 it dies in the Japanese town/city area, which is the primary one, and not in any of the other branching areas that aren’t as technically complex. I can see why, Ashina is pretty vast with a lot of pieces.
While I do agree that the combat is really satisfying, it is kinda just “Counter counter counter counter, JUMP, counter counter counter counter” at times. It’s not that it’s not good, it’s just that it’s not as perfect as people make it out to be. Bloodborne fan for life.
@@ZorrotheArtistit is good tho because each enemy in the game has his own rythm and you solely depend on your ability to learn it and time it correctly. You don't really rely on stats or builds, just skill. (I too am a bloodborne fan btw)
@@TheObtuseBagelanjiros ancestor said something like "how interesting i've never seen something like that, your blades color turns intro crimson when you start fighting" to yorrichi
You really should play cause this is the the actual tutorial of the game i bet you are playing the game wrong and it's not your fault cause you haven't faced a deflect base boss yet
One of the most amazing experiences you’ll have is getting through the entirety of Sekiro. Like Elden Ring, I wish I could go back and play it again for the first time. Sekiro may be the hardest souls like ever - but if you persist and keep going, something incredible awaits you. 🙏🏽
I have personally never played Sekiro, but I would think it deserves a sequel 100% Edit: I have finally started playing Sekiro and it is one of my all time favorite games
And this is why I’m so glad this game doesn’t have pvp too hard to balance that stuff so they get to focus on the aesthetic of the fights vs darksouls and bloodbourne
Yeah out of all there souls games Sekiro is tbe mot unique and by far has the smoothest gameplay. All the others have this insanely similer feel but not Sekiro.
Still waiting for fromsoft to make a game where Sekiro’s combat is used for knight duels but dark souls’s combat is used for large beasts and monsters.
Intuitive and easy to learn but the skill ceiling is way higher then Elden Ring. ER is probably Fromsofts easiest souls game whike Sekiro is probably the hardest since you cant really cheese build a character. Sekiro is all about timing, skill, and proper tool usage. Easily their most unique Souls game for sure.
@@brandonvallier4214 it really is case by case, sekiro combat clicked almost instantly for me. Personnally I would put it as the 2nd easiest right after ds1. The game is a must, the combat is simply unmatched
@@pinkworm5348 that would be a skill reason not the gameplay being "easy". Obviously depending on the person it's case by case but I'm not looking at it like that. Generally speaking souls fans have all said Elden is the easiest which I also agree. I enjoyed it but found the game a bit tedious because if you explore and upgrade weapons you just curbstomp 99% of everything in the game and I've tried Int, Strength, and Dex builds all felt the same difficulty wise. Where Sekiro literally requires the players skills more than anything else. You aren't making different builds. You only swap skills/tools based on the scenario otherwise it's all skill and even that requires understanding of the game mechanics which is skill based. The gameplay is more reliant on hand eye coordination and timing more the. Any other souls game whic again translates to more skill being needed. This doesn't mean it's the hardest game "for you" but it does mean it is mechanically.
@@brandonvallier4214 how tf is ER even remotely close to being the easiest "souls" game? I mean, i can go smash the dancer before ever touching vordt but i really don't have the patience to endure all the bullshit combos and sidesteps while our character is stuck in a dumbed down DS3 mechanics, like malenia is a fucking scuffed tomoe for crying out loud, and coming from a guy who finished DS2 that game even with its ADP and BS enemy placements is still much more fair than ER
Just bought this game today, and personally I can’t wait for the absolute mind boggling, mental torturing depressing experience it’s gonna be 😄👍 It’s been 3 days and I’m at sword saint isshin, I did not rush. Yet no matter how much I try, I can’t beat him. Knowing me I’m not gonna stop until I do so I’m gonna be going through a lot of torture. Pray for me 🙏
Sekiro and chivalry are probably the best sword fighting games made, hopefully blade and sorcery gets more realistic swordplay because I want to the shit in those games in blade and sorcery
Elden Ring has vastly different combat to Sekiro. So if you are expecting this type of sword fighting you will be disappointed. But Elden Ring is a marvellous game as well. Both should be on your wishlist but ER is more beginner-friendly as it is an open-world game where you can get really OP before even fighting the first boss
If you like fast paced tight samurai like combat with a Japanese styling for world and story then go sekiro, if u want an rpg with slower combat that's more open world, darker and with a more western styling go with elden ring
Me watching clips like this, has led me to buying the game, after platinum Ghosts of Tsushima. Me struggling to fight a very large Cockerell 😢😅😊 Great clip 👌
actually putting your foot on your opponents sword to counter is a very viable thing in real life I used to do HEMA under the italian manuscript "The Flower of Battle" by fiore de libieri and in the manuscript there are multiple techniques for pushing your opponents longsword towards the ground while stuck in a clash and then stomping it to counter with a strike or thrust of your own so its very very viable the german manuscripts even have it and they focus more on fancy spinny techniques
every single mod of sekiro is ruining the charm of the original game, which is the rythm and that bosses care about your attacks etc.... like every mod is just "bosses spam more and more and more flashy attacks" so the game turn into a parry simulator which sekiro IS NOT AT ALL
Genechiro and Isshin are my favorite fights, all varients. Although I wish there was a "Inner Lightning of Tomoe" fight, with more healthbars, cause god I love deflecting his Mortal Blade attacks during that fight. Inner Isshin and Saint Isshin are better than the "normal" Isshin in the shura route imo.
Although I was getting good while fighting gyobu and understanding the parry mechanics, fighting genichiro clicked something in me, I literally became the boss in every boss fight after that boss fight, dang
