Was just there. Stayed accross the street at the dive resort. Van rippers was nice and the guy working the store there was helpful and they had some good fishing stuff. The other resort in the harbor with a bigger store clearly has much more fishing supplies. But beautiful place to visit and fish.
Black bass suspend and don’t hang near the bottom, you’ll see them on the top many times hitting bait in the kelp. If they hit it on the bottom its cuz they followed it on the drop. Throw a jig head with a curly tail grub or a lancer jig next time. That’s why you kept getting quills, coppers and chinas. Their on the bottom always or next structure. The bigger lings move out in deeper water past 120 foot restriction by this time of year but they don’t eat as well, usually mushy meat cuz they old females. The best eaters are those 22-28 inchers. I caught a 65# butt once that kicked my ass. The bigger the worse the meat in my opinion. 15-45 pounders are my favorite. Keep going over though cuz you’ll learn more about the area each time you go. Right now is the best time to catch lings. There all on the shallower reefs now breeding. Gotta go down to Garibaldi depobay or newport where it's still open for the winter
