In this episode, Bjorn takes you through the steps of styling a small Sekka Hinoki bonsai. This special cultivar is becoming quite popular in the bonsai world due to its fine foliage, ability to back-bud readily and propensity to develop pads quickly. Unfortunately, we have sold out of this product.

Hi Bjorn I'm newly learning about bonsai and was just wondering if you can do an in depth video on wiring bonsai and how to prevent the wires from biting in the tree

Hey Bjorn, I like this style of video where you take something that the average person can get a hold of. I like all your videos, but really do appreciate the stuff that is more focused on obtainable/affordable bonsai! Thank you.

Halfway through each bonsai video, I'm thinking 'this looks a bit odd, how on earth is he going to make this look good?'. Then each and every time, I'm blown away by the end result. Anyone would think he was a highly skilled professional or something! ;) This channel gives me life and has accelerated my passion for bonsai - thank you so much for everything you do!

Those bonsai-u videos with young trees are especially inspiring! Ill be putting your instructions to the test once I get my degree thats for sure! Its really viewer-friendly content so DONT shorten those videos please, being able to follow every detail and move as you do it while explaining your way of thought is very very helpful and instructive! Thanks big time!

Bonsai has become my “quarantine distraction”. I’ve tried to make three different Juniper bonsai with very embarrassing results. Until I saw this video, I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I learned a lot from this one, but now I have to wait for the “disasters” to grow out. I’ve also been trying to make bonsai with some local materials that I’ve found in my yard; mainly Sweet Gum, Maple, and some wild Wisteria. Maybe, as a challenge, you could try your magical touch with one of these? I can supply you with plenty of Wisteria! ;-)

The most important thing I learned, is to not immediately cut off all the branches :D I would be inclined to cut off atleast 3 or 4 branches which you ended up using. Seeing their position, after you wired everything into place, made much more sense! Thanks once again for an amazing video!

Looking at the vid closely, I think he did a fair amount of pruning that was not shown. When you compare the initial shots with the final project, there were a lot more alterations than just bending the branches. I wish ALL the steps were shown.

In the past your videos, while excellent educationally, have left me feeling, that's nice but that bonsai is enormous, not much I can take away for my Shohin sized trees. However this rang all the bells for me, thanks so much. One thing I would like to see is a video on how and when to remove wire...

Apparently Chamaecyparis pisifera has the same habit of browning and die back of inner needles; I have one I had planted in the ground to thicken for several years and dug up and restyled this Spring, and a few of the branches were quite leggy from the inner foliage die back. It required some wiring gymnastics to make a few of the lower branches not appear too long.
