A visit to Seldom Seen Engine House / Pumping Station Explore
In this short video, we take a look at a hidden gem in the South Yorkshire Countryside. seldom Seen Engine House is nestled deep within a valley on the edge of Eckington Village, and is a schedualed ancient monument. The sole surviving structure of a once vast coal mining area.

It`s not Yorkshire it`s North East Derbyshire, situated in the Moss Valley. Restored in 2003 by Derbyshire County Council, nothing to do with Sheffield at all, Eckington is North East Derbyshire. This is the old Engine House for Plumbley Colliery and the path below is the old Penny Engine Line witch took coal from here to the Midland Railway at Renishaw. Check out the Plumbley Colliery Disaster on RU-vid.

Hiya again Anthony, Just found your lastest video on RU-vid. Well what can I say? BRILLIANT 😀 is my answer and I really enjoyed watching it too. It may of only been a short video but it was worth the watch as usual. Well Done. It's such a shame to see the building in that state, it must of been a impressive building at one time, did you know that the Wheel and pumping machinery was taken out a few years ago for safety reasons? It's still about but somewhere safe in storage to keep it safe. Apparently North East Derbyshire Council are planning to put it back some point and do the building up for visitors to enjoy. I live in the village of Eckington myself so know the area really well, Seldom Seen Engine House is a few minutes walk from my house, just pass the church on the main road, it's a lovely little village Eckington and there is a few other walks around the same area. It's a pity you didn't do any filming of the remains of the old mill factory at the other end, which I pass every time I start my walk that way. And on the note of starting my walk, anytime you decide to go again, there is a lovely cafe next to the church which does nice hot or cold drinks and homemade cakes. ☺️. Anyway thanks for visiting my little ye oldie village, your welcome back anytime you feel like. Ps. When the drone went up in the air, there was a lovely view of the Moss Valley it looked stunning. Anyway hope to hear from you soon and like I always say, keep up the good work Ant. All the best from. Devon. Mike.

Hello Mike. It was a lovely day. Sunny and frosty. It was the same morning that we did Cowdale Quarry in the Afternoon. If you think the mill is worth a visit then visit it we shall 😀

Needs to be properly restored and machinery reinstated as a nod to a once proud mining area, but being where it's located it's not really going to happen, they'd have to build some steps for a start wouldn't they Joanne?!!!!!! Another little gem Ant 👍

Hi Ant another great little video. The photography is superb in this one! Really enjoyed it and I shall have to visit it. However I have one gripe. Sorry. You referred in the video and and captioned it as well as “Eckington, near Sheffield.” Quite wrong, this is Yorkshire lad. You should properly have referred to it as “Sheffield, by ‘eck-ington!” 🤣😂 oh I’ll stop now. 🤣 so sorry. Great video! Thanks 👍👍👍👊🤣

Hiya again Ant. On another note, you told me that like myself, Joanne has an interest in the Paranormal, I was wondering if you have ever visited the Derby Ghoal on Friargate? It's the old Jail House which is owned by Most (fake) 😁 Haunted (as I call the program) lol 😂 anyway it's owned by a chap called Richard Felix and is well worth a visit and maybe a video in the near future? It's free entry but with a donation and you can either go round on your own or have a tour by one of the lovely friendly staff who I know well and they will take you round. It's only open on Saturdays. 11:00am till 15:00pm. You'll probably see me there as I visit the place regularly.
@TrekkingExploration

I work there as a volunteer, we open in March as we close for the winter months due to the lack of visitors. While we're in the area, I'll take you both to the old Vernon Gate Prison, as well, it's not there anymore, but the front of the building is there to see and it looks amazing, you can walk around that part, but the rest is now luxury apartments, but residents don't mind visitors looking round and are used to seeing me taking people round. Richard Felix does Ghost walks around the City of Derby all year round, meeting at the Derby Ghoal in the evenings and they are well worth it I must say as been on a few myself really enjoyed myself. Plus while in the area yiu have Pickfords House museum which is well worth a visit too some time.
