For home use, i play on a 60mm sq board, lovely walnut n maple natural wood and 4" pieces, American Staunton, early 1940's style. Everyone wants the set. It gets compliments all the time even from strangers.
Can you please post a link of the website you bought it from...I have a triple weighted tournament plastic/vinyl chess set/board but I always toy with the idea of buying a good weighted wooden chess set...though I think the plastic one which I already have is more practical as I do not worry about damaging it...n its very portable.
@@skynet_cyberdyne_systems for the board you're out of luck, it's a +25 yr-old board my uncle Rigo picked up in Hungary. but the pieces are brand new, 1941 "liberty" series originally by w.t. pinney. HoS makes a replica as well as chessBazaar. I love this old + new combination.
@@skynet_cyberdyne_systems You can get much better boards from house of staunton. His is junk and he is just nostalgia-ing to show off. Age doesn't matter and is just a waste of your money. Don't bother with worn out 19whatevers pieces.

Thanks for your kind comment! Sure, since all of you are learning, I'd go with a DVD or two in Elliott's Chess School (Pawn and/or Knight level). If you're very confident with basics, then just the knight level, but if any of you are starting out/learning to play as you said, then definitely started with the Pawn level DVD. The books I showed on video are intended for elementary and middle school students primarily. I don't know your age, but if that's you and you're starting out, then the trio of Chess Rules, Checkmate, and Chess Tactics is a great foundation. All the books and the DVD I showed are going to work well for you to be honest. These are selected out of hundreds of other titles so although there are various options here, we find these are the best starting titles. Chess Tactics for Kids can be an add-on. For adults, Play Winning Chess is the classic titles for those new to the game. Here are links to some of these. @@smaishenreb_leon no, why would you want just nights? Just get bulk tournament pieces if you want extras of things. You can even get just the pieces themselves for only a few dollars on USCF website.
@@sark- in some very rare situations under-promotion (promoting to a piece lower than a queen) is necessary.. however i don’t think extra pieces are worth buying just for that situation
There is no most. They make them in all colors. Red and blue is also used. I tend to see regular black/white more than others and it's what I have. The USCF website has a nice purple one. I would like to get it :3

The 17-inch square board is set up wrong. Look at the algebraic notation. You've got the white pieces on the black side and the black pieces on the white side. But you did make it clear later in the video which side gets what. Thanks for the other tips when it comes to these boards. Good to know.

It is set up correctly. As long as you have a dark square on your left and a light square on your right, you're gold. Most kids who were taught chess by a professional would be able to mentally compensate for the upside-down notation.

It's obvious that you weren't taught by a professional chess player, because anyone that was would know that, on a board with notation, whites pieces will always sit on the 1st and 2nd rank of the board. Even then, white's king always sits on a dark square and black's king always sits on a light square in the starting position. Calm your self down and stop picking fights, especially when you're wrong. Both players will always have a white square on their right because the A-H right diagonal which cuts down to each player's right sides is made up of light squares. Not only are you an A, you're a stupid one too.
