The pairs that you picked out are beautiful!! And love the setup of the breeding tank! I'll have to mimic that for my own tanks! Loved your dog tooo!! So cute!
Love the peppermint bn plecos! My albinos had fry a week ago 🙂 fantastic work just. I enjoyed this very much! It’s currently 1:26pm sat the 23rd April Michigan usa time.
Woohoo! How cute are they?! I just love plecos - so different compared to the other types of fish we keep:) Thanks for the time info - was the earlier time good or do you prefer when I post later in the evening here in Aus?
Awesome vlog Justin!!! I must say that your baby peppermint plecos look absolutely adorable!. Also all the rams you showed us in this video are stunning mate!!. You are doing an amazing job in raising them. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Great vlog boet! Nice to see your batch of rams you now selected for breeding compared to the same age siblings I recently got from you. Also love those baby peppermint bristlenose plecos. I would love some of those. Please PM me about those. I'll be rearranging/rescaping my tanks this weekend too. Hope to get the set up right between aquascaped and breeding tank. Hmmm! Haha Regards Andre'
Seeing your videos makes want to set up a Ram tank. The last pair I had, the male died and the female jumped out :( I wanna add tannins and rams to my display tank. Great video like always 🤩
It is really nice to see you have a continous growing number of very good quality gbrs.. also with black ones.. i wish i could get the black rams in my place. Just saw one in an online shop here but costs 14k yen(arnd 150aud)..anyway as always HAPPY FISH KEEPING friend!!!! Cheers!!!
Hey Justin 👋. Loving the effort you are putting in to expanding what you are doing it's looking great. I've also heard that throwing the ball for the dog creates a pressure vacuum in the fish room Triggering extensive spawning 😂. How are you finding juggling life and Uni with running the fish room to the best of your ability?
I’m Lisa who you messaged today about my juvie rams of roughly 11 weeks old. Your say yours here are only 8 weeks old (2 months?) how come they are so much more patterned n distinct than mine at 11 weeks almost 12? I feed mine mostly live blood worms pretty well ever since week 2.5 others pinch the parents worms so I just decided to chops them up n also feed the young rams). I do sometimes give them no1 DRP aswell. Yours look a lot bigger but you say they’re in,y 2 months old right ? Also are all those rams from one spawn…? How are defining GBB or just Blue black and then the celestial? I thought regular rams were not officially German blue rams ? Plus I’ve never understood why they’re even called blue rams when blue is often the least visible colour in my eyes. Lol. I sent you a pic of my dark ram (which is quite a bit darker than some in your tank so is that classed as a dark knight ram, a dark ram.. or a celestial?? What makes a so called celestial lol 🤷🏼♀️😳I bought from LFS so I’m assuming it was spawn from simply ‘regular” rams. Ohhhh.. another thing..are they ready to breed at only a mere 8 weeks old? So young my god. I cannot imagine any one my almost 12 weeks olds breeding at all yet.
They can be kept in very acidic water such as 6.3 and even be kept in water as high as 7.2. They do prefer mid range to acidic levels so I would try aim for about 6.8
Justin, Today on my way home from work I went to my local pet store to buy some Endler guppies, only to be told I could only buy male guppies and that female ones were not available and I had very little chance of buying any females, a different pet shop owner also said that fish breeders were not selling females either, Is that the same everywhere? how can I try breeding any guppies if I can only get hold of Male fish. any suggestions for me please.
Hi there Kevin! That is something that is apparently an issue for the live bearers that I can only speculate as to the reasoning behind. I would hazard a guess and say that this could be due to the demand for prettier males over females and perhaps the females also are kept a lot of the time for further breeding?? I am not too sure why. It is very frustrating but perhaps you could look to local breeders via forums or groups on FB that could point you in the right direction 🙂
I have been following your videos and I wanted to throw in a quick work on genetics. In your other videos you often present breeding pairs which must be assumed are brother/sister. this traditionally offers dangers of grey-lining or even red-lining the DNA of the animals. dog and horse breeders have gotten around this with what is called a "back-cross" ie. taking the best male from the first round of spawn and pairing it w the mother as the new male. (I have cut A LOT of corners in explaining this, but my intention is to only to help. good luck)
Thank you so much for that information. I am familiar with this type of cross. I would ideally use this cross and have in the past, however, it is very hard to get these fish to separate from their mates. But thank you for the genetic input and I am always happy to learn more about these concepts:)
