Just ordered a rip and cross cut blade.. i was honestly on the fence about buying my first forrest blade but i just couldn't justify the cost when ive never had any issue using my freud glue line rip blade.. anxiously waiting to see if there is noticeable difference between them!! I've also read a lot of poor reviews on Forrest saying they just don't make them like they used to and that there no better then Freud at the 3-4x's the cost.. I'll let you know my experience but at that cost i got one of each for under 120 bucks!!!👍

Great video, thanks for the information! One point to fix is your comment about copper plugs at around 2 mins. Copper is actually a very good conductor of heat (about 7 times as good as Steel). I think the plugs are there to reduce noise and vibration because copper is softer.
@dylan-nguyen
@dylan-nguyen 2 года назад
It’s also a mini heat sink All the heat moves to the copper instead of the steel blades

I bought your essential saw blade bundle. 1. Immediately, my saw was quieter upon first power up. 2. My cuts were absolutely smoother and less effort...yes the blades were new. 3. Ive been cutting daily for one month with virtually NO detectable change in performance...the only maintenance has been to clean the blades with the CMT cleaner that comes with the bundle. I absolutely recommend first, to purchase from small businesses like KM, and second, to make your own comparisons on your equipment/tools. I believe you'll find that JKM is spot on with what he claims in this video.

I am new to your RU-vid channel. My first vocation was that of a mechanical drafter. I was educated for this and after doing time in the military I found work as a draftsman for a construction firm. After several years of this, I was drawn to the work done by carpenters on the project and changed my vocation to that of an apprentice carpenter. I am now retired and have set up a woodworking shop in my garage. Recently, I constructed the CNC as shown in Woodworking magazine. I am proficient with Sketchup and now working on a class about Fusion 360. You have a great channel, and I will continue to follow.

Jonathan, Your description (plus the deep discounts) persuaded me to order a CMT combo blade from Taytools. The blade arrived today. back when you first released this video I bought the rip and cross cut blades with the cleaner and man I have been so happy with the performance of these blades especially the rip blades cut through 8/4 hard maple like butter I really mean it so thanks for the review and I have only had to clean the rip blade once using the cleaner and I also then spray on glide coat dry lube and it's like cutting sticks of butter no matter the wood species.

I finally put my rip blade on and I couldn't believe how great a cut it made! It even crosscut better than the crosscut Sawstop blade I have, so I just ordered a crosscut one. Might pick up a crosscut for my miter saw too! I honestly thought the claims of using a high end blade were overstated, but I was wrong and couldn't be happier!

Great video! For me I agree Freud is a great jobsite blade but is a 'throw away'. Used Forrest and CMT for years for trim work/cabinetry. Both resharpen multiple times. Something to look out for...the person that resharpens your blade. That's why I use Forrest blade service. Not only do they resharpenand set the rake but also retention the blade even weld new teeth if needed. The grind is perfect like brand new. They will also do other manufacturers. Even though more expensive that's why I lean toward Forrest for fine finish. Check out their service. Thx for vid and your usual spot on presentation

@azmike1956 3 года назад
Freud makes different grades (lines) of blades, the Diablo being the lower but more affordable line (still can be sharpened). Make sure your sharpening service isn't just over grinding your blades to sell you new ones. My Freud 8" safety dado is a very nice long lasting set, check out more of their products.

I ordered 2CMT blades from your link. Been using Diablo blades for several years and my Woodcraft Dealer has a Vendor that sharpens them. I have had good results with these $35.00 dollar blades. The more expensive Forest blades (Rip Blade) I also have and while they run quieter, they excel better in ripping.A little more metal mass. Looking forward to these CMT blades to see how they compare. I already use the CMT Orange Blade cleaner. Good stuff. Simple green does well also on most painted blades. Thanks for the heads up on the sale and discount code.

Have to agree 100%. Yours is the best blade buying advice on you tube. Have grown tired of watching so many vids pushing cheap blades like low end Freud, Saxton and others. Bought cheap blades and generally things like run out was good but teeth were no more than 5 or 6mm in size, not really resharpenable and never lasted that long. In the uk, CMT chrome industrial series seem the best vfm and are decent blades starting at around £60. Night and day better made to any cheap blade and with more meat in the teeth and superior coatings.

Thanks for filling my brain cavity full...again! Awesome video as always and super useful information. I've heard some of this before, but somehow I'm always watching one of your videos when I'm ready to change something in the shop or pull the trigger on an upgrade purchase. I've got an early 2000's Jet contractor saw with a 1-1/2HP motor (at least that's what it says on the plate...). I immediately bought a link belt and a Forrest WoodWorker II thin-kerf combo blade with a stiffener. I read somewhere that that saw would perform better with a thin-kerf blade. The saw performs great, and I've never had any issues (except the limited depth of cut from the stiffener). If I go for one of these dedicated crosscut or ripping blades, do you think I should stick with the thin kerf on this saw? I'd like to get the deeper cut, but don't want to overwork the saw. I don't have plans to upgrade any time soon...

Good video 👍 . I bought Freud and diablo blades for my table saw ( each for different cutting) a huge difference frome the cheap one that came with the table!!! And i bought a blade to my mitre saw from DeWalt ( i saw the Amazon reviews) it wasn't expensive but it had good reviews and from what I'm using it have clean cuts also much better than the blade that came with the mitre saw. Where i live we don't have a variety of brands and the possibility to s by sharp the blade is not available. Love all your content !! Be 💪, take care !!

2:04 "copper is not a good conductor of heat" actually copper is an amazing conductor of heat, one of the best commonly available materials for conducting heat with specialty materials like diamond being one of the few that conducts heat better. There's a reason why COPPER heat pipes are used in any high quality heat sink for your computer. Aluminum is only ever used because it's cheaper than copper but even aluminum doesn't conduct heat as well as copper.

I've been running Freud blades for over a decade and they most definitely can be resharpened. I've even had the Diablo line sharpened before, so not sure where people are getting their info from. Other than two new brazed teeth on my ripping blade, I'm still on my original blades and teeth. Not a bad investment as far as I'm concerned and I do this for a living. Six days a week, 6-14 hours a day, that's a lot of racked up hours on blades.

I just bought all three CMT blades based on your recommendation. If they suck, I know where you live! Actually, I don't, but they better be good. Thanks (I think).

Ridge carbide makes a 40 tooth ATB-R... by far my favorite blade to use. Great video bud

That’s probably my favorite as well. I go with Popular.. they’re a few hundred or more per blade but worth it.

Wow, I think this video answered my question/issue. I'm new to woodworking and have begun ripping long boards and have been experiencing blade gouges. My guess of this was being caused by the blade wobbling because my cut line becomes much wider than normal. I was cutting with a general all purpose blade, which is also ultra thin kerf. This video explains there's a difference between cut types and which blade you ideally should use. I should be using a 24-30 tooth blade and either use a full kerf or get a blade stiffener. The video recommends thin kerf for "underpowered saws" but what does "underpowered" actually mean? How do I know if my saw is underpowered other than assuming so because of lower priced buys?

This is a great video with lots of helpful information, but I'm still stuggling with the practical difference between a general purpose vs combination blade. I just got my first table saw, the Dewalt 7491rs and want to get one nice blade to start. I'm thinking a thin kerf general purpose or combination blade but I really just don't know which I should get. 40T ATB general purpose? 50T ATB combo? 50T ATBR combo? I will be doing a lot of general lumber and plywood for awhile before venturing to nicer hardwoods. At that point I will be getting dedicated ripping and cross cut blades but just want to start with one all around one now.Thanks!

I have an old 70s 9" saw. Upgraded from a contractor saw that had a warped aluminium table it off the box. I got a Freud Industrial combination ABTR that had a coating ( silver not red ). Forest has 9" blades but CMT doesn't. I clean my blades with liquid laundry detergent. I soak my blades for 15-20 minutes in hot water with about 50ml of laundry detergent - single pod or a shot glass filled. The pitch will wipe off with a paper towel. Some of the pitch is stubborn on the tooth face so a gentle wipe with a scotch brite pad gets it.

Had issues with the CMT blade while doing cross cuts on butcher block. Burn marks and veered off the straight edge. Going to double check square but never had issues before with Diablos.
