I also heard that her father and brother were actually not too far away at a local restaurant while they waiting for her, like the series shows. I also think Yolanda purposely made Selena impatient and want to be done with the situation so she’d have tunnel vision and get essentially caught by surprise. If that makes sense. There’s so many layers and intricacies. It’s really astounding. I also think she went to flee out the room right when she was about to be shot, her running without stopping seemed like she was fleeing right before the gunshot and not necessarily after, again if that makes sense.
@@Jasmine-wx1wp her husband and father-in-law were around the corner too running errands and was just on the phone talking to her after the hospital visit. he said he regrets not going over there when she told him not to. He had suggested his dad dropping him off at the motel and they would've gone to lunch together but she told him "No, dad's already going to be so mad at me."
It still fucking hurts 💔 27 years later it still hurts she meant allot to the world her energy and I was only a baby then and she's impacted me this much
Her death still breaks my heart to this day. Her death is a life lesson. 1. Everyone is not your friend 2. Never mix friendship with business 3. Always have a second person with you when it is time to cut ways with a toxic person. RIP Selena. You are still loved to this day.
Selena's family admitted that was part of her downfall. She always wanted to see the good in people and was "too trusting" at times. Apparently, her family had a bad feeling about Yolanda and warned Selena they should just fire her. But Selena wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. Sadly, it was her desire to see the good in people that lead to her death when she saw the toxicity in Yolanda too late. Yolanda knew she could take advantage of Selena because of her good heart and it cost Selena everything.
So haunting and heartbreaking to know that she left Chris sleeping that morning. He said he had such survivors guilt for years . Such guilt that he wasn't awake. If he had been, he would've insisted on taking her and wouldn't have happened..sadly I don't know if it would eafe a difference .Yolanda was psychotic ..she PLANNED to kill Selena. If she didn't do it that morning she probably would've done it another time ... Yolanda Is the ONLY person that should shoulder any blame.
I watched this with my mom and she said about halfway through the series “It’s so hard to watch this knowing what’s going to happen. You don’t want it to happen, but it’s going to happen.”
Right? I was born in 1995 and discovered Selena as my parents would listen to her, making me fall in love with her music. I wore out my VHS tape of her 1990s movie and watching this was gutwrenching the entire time because I just KNEW how it was going to end. The second Abraham mentioned Yolanda and bringing her into the business, I was like, "Oh crap, this is the beginning of the end."
@phillip Howe uhm. That's a common theme and perhaps it's true. I believe SQP was super empathic. I met her a few brief moments for a student newspaper. But now. All the men SQP had around her. Her brother, husband, dad. And yet she had to break away from their "protection". Why? These men could have advised to hire a private investigator or someone in their circle of influence. Anything to protect SQP to the fullest, so she could one day become a mom. I think these protectors, were divided. And that division enabled SQP to work around them, right in front of them. And to me, that's unhappiness. And that's not trust either. And such divisiveness and manipulation resulted in SQP walking into her own death trap. Noone is so kind to believe everything or anything. Surely, the protective men in SWPs life were not naive But noone stepped up effectively, apparently, to guide SQP to avoid the highly skilled manipulative YS. If SQP believed everyone's heart and thought the best of them, I wonder; why then did she not believe her spouse who apparently demanded she not see YS? That YS could be managed legitimately. And legitimate tax write-offs include losses from thefts. And no money stolen is more important than SQPs safety.
It wasn't that. The Perez family hired her to work and run a business. They trusted her until they had reason not to. They had no clue the little gremlin carried a gun and was capable of murder.
*Selena is an example of blindly trusting people. She trusted too much, which proves she had a good heart. Which unfortunately ended up bringing its own tragedy. We must never, never blindly trust people. May she rest in peace, the peace she has not found here on earth. She was too good for the people of this world...*
I heard one of her songs on the radio yesterday and have been thinking about her ever since. The saddest part is she didn’t die right away and left a huge trail of blood from her hotel room to the lobby trying to find help and let people know what had happened. She lasted until surgery at the hospital. It’s crazy how something that happened so long ago can still get you upset and make you appreciate life
@@Khloe_dancer_model not necessarily, once body experiences such trauma it starts pumping adrenaline (hence why she had strength to run so much) and goes into state of shock Often people don't feel pain because of it. But panic and fear yeah..
Fun fact for the kids that grew up in the 2000’s: the actress that’s playing Selena is the same actress who played Suzie Crabgrass in Ned’s Declassified school survival guide
@@Mean_Jean True, true but what the person commented above is trying to say that She was valued much more after death than she was alive, not in a bad way tho.
I went to middle school with Selena. I had her for 2 classes, Homemaking and Art. She was 2 yrs younger than me. She was just started Singing on The Domingo Live show on Sundays. She had the lil curly hair, very short. We were always laughing and Cutting up. I remember exactly what I was doing when it came on the news. I was cleaning the shower at my house cuz My mom was at work. I heard the news, came out of the bathroom sat down and started crying. I will never forget it or her RIP Selena❤ I always told my kids and now my Grandkids about her and going to middle school with her. They get such a kick out of it. Its funny seeing my Granddaughters dancing and singing to her songs. I live in Corpus Christi, Texas. They have her Statue downtown and where she is buried. I live like 5 mins from the cemetary and its so hard to go see it. Im glad that we met.❤
That's amazing you know I heard someone tell me that beyoncé met her in Texas years ago. Sorry you lost your friend we all felt like we lost a friend or a sister God bless RIP Selena 🙏🏻
Very tragic story and a lesson for us all to pick our friends wisely, pay attention to red flags, and never be alone with a Narcissist without a weapon. I always strongly suggest women keep pepper spray. I hope Selena is happy and resting in peace.
@Slim_Reaper_002 He was very over protective of Selena however, he was right about Yolanda. I do feel he was too harsh in regards to Selena and Chris but I will say Chris was acting a fool and no good father wants their daughter with a man acting out of control. But Chris changed his ways and I do believe he love Selena. They love eachother. In life we all have to learn when to make head over heart decisions.
Loveleen there is a interview with Chris Perez were he didn’t ask Selena where she was going that he regrets not asking her because he feels guilts because he felt like it’s his fault he feels it could’ve been different if he went with her but it’s not tho
The fact that she still let Yolanda in her car after what she lied about, just shows how much of a good person she was. Bc I would have left her at the hospital
@@headphonic8 she drove her to the hospital for the apparent sexual assault, then drove her to the motel. she was still caring enough to make sure she got help
my sister dropped a friend at the hospital after she apparently "miscarried" she still took her home after admitted she lied about it, better person than me i would of left her there
This is a PRIME example of how the nice, kind, and good hearted people are treated. Selena had a big heart, because of that , she was used, played, & when she TRIED to stick up for herself and what’s right, she gets killed. This reminds me that it’s ok to not always be that person, RIP SELENA we will always have you in our hearts.
this is why I have learned you cannot be kind hearted in this world. I have had so many set ups, rejections, scams by so called friends who would tell me I was never your friend anyways.......Im good, no one can ever guilt me into going back to being kind hearted
There is never anything wrong with being nice. But it is important to be cautious, rational and weary of others. We also need to be realistic that doing good for everyone will not necessarily be repaid with good. Because not everyone choose to do good.
Notice how the meanest grumpiest people seem to live forever and die at 99 years old, and the good kind hearted that could light up a room with their smile die young.
What breaks my heart is that this day Selena had no idea she was even living her last moments 😔😔😔💔💔 she didn’t deserve this at all. I would have sued her and let the cops handle it.
I agree. You are so right. We all have to learn when to make head over heart decisions instead of heart over head. Selena had a big heart and unfortunately narcissist use this against her and others.
Super weird to me that people in these comments perceive her death as a “life lesson” to be careful who you trust. Selena was not wrong for believing she could trust a close family friend. Yolanda is the only person to blame for letting jealousy, greed, and hate take the life of a young woman. If you’re gonna take something from this don’t let it be something that Selena should’ve done differently…
true but to me it’s more like you gotta be careful to not be too kind sometimes because people can take your kindness as a sign of weakness and take advantage by taking it by granted, stepping all over you like a door mat
@@yeseniarivera124 I don't follow that, I am always kind but I choose to stick to my intuition and empathy to guide me. I think we ignore gut feeling too much, that's our problem. People are nice and say nice things but you had this feeling that they were untrustworthy when you first met. Keep that...
She actually trusted Yolanda immediately because of her father, her father was (I don't mean this in an offensive way) a cheap person. Yolanda came up to Abraham and said that she would work free and she was Selena's number one fan so Abraham trusted her and so did Selena. Maybe her father could of done differently like hire a new person, Selena did what she did, shs fired Yolanda and tried to get these important papers but at the emd she was shot
The scariest thing watching this is that I felt bad for Yolanda and it makes me realize how many people have been and could be in Selena’s shoes. Being emotionally manipulated by a psychopath because you have a big heart and are very empathetic. This whole thing is extremely sad and I really wish none of this ever happened and Selena was still alive today
Exactly I still can't believe Aaliyah is gone after 20 years it still doesn't seem real. Especially how it just happened out of nowhere . I still can't get the image of that plane wreck out of my head from seeing it on the news when I was 12 .
@@New-York-Guy-90. they will not grant her parole because Selena family will be at the hearing .Also she is still a threat to society she show no remorse for her actions.
@@New-York-Guy-90. if I was her, I wouldn’t want to leave that jail. Selena is a much bigger beloved name than when she was living. That woman would need to go into witness protection as I’m sure, there are many die hard Selena fans who would love to have a “word” with her.
You are all right she is more than likely not going to get parole granted……the guy who killed John Lennon has got denied parole for the past twenty years
You hear about celebrities tragic deaths all the time, but there is just something extra heartbreaking about Selena's death. A young girl, whose life was really just starting at 23, murdered senselessly by her supposed "friend." I remember listening to Selena's music when I was only four years old. I can't help but think this tragedy might've been averted if Chris, or her dad had been there. It's a shame.
I just finished this show. Honestly this story hits in the gut. She was on the way to changing the world. She meant so much to us chicanos. Heartbreaking
It's because the family didn't actually care about the series; it was a cash grab. They don't even own the copyrights to her name to make it. The producer of the movie does and he's suing them
I hate how the actress who played Yolanda had gotten real death threats as if she were the real Yolanda. 😞 She’s just an actress and is beautiful and so nice irl. She actually had to gain weight for the role and the producers definitely had to ugly her up to resemble the actual Yolanda. She definitely did not deserve any of that hate for just simply doing her job as an actress.
When Selena found out that Yolanda lied about the rape, if I was her, I would have left Yolanda at the hospital. Who quits their paying job to work for someone for no pay? I would have found that suspicious. Abraham should have done a background check on Yolanda. She also tried to beg to work for another person, but they turned her down. Think about it. Yolanda hated Selena for many years because she was beating her favorite music artists in awards. Then she became obsessed with her. Something doesn't add up
If they grant her parole in 3 years. Selena’s fans I’m sure will be waiting for her. She probably should stay where she’s at for her safety. It’s very hard to forgive her for what she did to Selena. It breaks my heart
@Edward89 actually he wasn't. he wrote in his book how she didn't tell him where she was going until she called him from his cell phone to tell him what was going on. he did ask her if she wanted him to meet her at the motel and they would've went to lunch together but she said she had to go to the studio because her dad was already going to be upset. Chris wasn't supposed to be there. Selena told him not to come and it's a decision he regrets every single day.
@@ashleysmith8402 she had bodyguards, Abraham said that even in public he would see Yolanda actually push the bodyguards out of the way and stand in front of Selena and he'd tell her to let the bodyguards do their job.
@Alexandra Anderson if you watch the clip they only show a blurred image of Selena enter the room then it cuts away to Norma Martinez cleaning when all of a sudden we hear a gunshot.
Imagine if you travel back in the same spot Selena was about to enter that room. Yelling “ Selena STOP DON’T GO IN THERE!!!!! ITS A TRAP!!!! YOLANDA IS GONNA KILL YOU!!!!!”
I recently lost someone very close to me. This person died on 12-18-2021. After experiencing a close death, watching the Selena Netflix last episode was heart wrenching and hit far too close too home, seeing the families reaction, and watching Chris laying in bed with his headphones in a numb state of mind....... is exactly what I've been doing the last couple of weeks. Completely heart broken.
Selena is one of my biggest heroes and motivations, having inspired and motivated me to pursue my dreams and goals. I served in the US Army for 3 years (2009-2012). Needless to say, there were several people who didn't want me to join because they'd worry and didn't want anything to happen to me, blah blah blah. But then again, you don't have to be in the military for something bad to happen. We all know what Selena's fate was, and she wasn't in the military. 😠 I'll always look up to Selena. 💗
This will forever be sad. Unfortunately, my family didn't become fans of hers until after her passing. The foundation that she has planted in the music industry, in both Mexico and in the US, shows you what a true talent she was. P.s. - the actress playing her did a fantastic freaking job. Who would've known Angela from Twilight had this type talent under her belt. You get the right part, your talents really flourish
It still pains me to this day the fate that was dealt to her. She was such a beautiful person inside and out. By every account I've listened to, I've never heard anyone say anything negative about her. A true angel that walked the earth.
She died on my mother in laws birthday, so crazy. Every year I think of them both since my mother in law passed in 2015… I’ve always loved Selene and her music and loved the movie! I’ve got Netflix but had no idea this was on there so def fixing to watch it when my son goes to school!! She just didn’t deserve this, I wish we could go back in time and save her :/ I don’t understand why it had to be her time!? She was SO happy, planning a family and an English music album and finally was getting big and it was all just taken from her! She was only what 22?! Poor beautiful Angel, I hope she is resting in Heaven, at Peace and singing with all the other beautiful Angels! 💜🙏🏼
Abraham should have called the police on her but Selena convinced him not to. She probably would have still been alive if he had trusted his instincts and called them. I tried so hard not to get hooked on the series and just at war with myself as to whether or not to watch the last episode.
He thought Chris was the snake and the potentially bad influence on her and like a vicious howling guard dog, tried to run him off. Chris was actually the one who loved her more than anything else. Yet he failed to spot the real snake, Yolanda.
Selena was such a beautiful soul. One can only imagine what accomplishments she'd have under her belt if she was still here. She accomplished so much in her short 23 years. It's beautiful to see her fan base continue to grow. I didn't know who she was until the movie and I've been a fan ever since. Her music sounds just as fresh to me now as it did when I first heard it all those years ago. Definitely one of my favorite artist! We miss you Selena!!!
This scene kills my heart every time. I just end up screaming in tears to the screen like if Selena could magically hear me say "Please Selena don't go see Yolanda. That woman is crazy and plans on killing you." Than something in me reminds me that she is already dead 😭
it’s crazy to even think that she’s been gone longer than she was alive, we underestimate how young she truly was but how much life she lived in her short 23 years 😢💔
I can’t even go too the museum for her in corpus cause I’ll cry my heart out. She is my icon since I was little, I sang her songs m, danced her moves and dressed like her. I loved her sweet soul that made my heart the way it is today. We love you Selena, my girls will keep passing her music down to the future of beyond
@@minakoaino7043 and I never thought I would say that a few years ago. Jlo at least looks a bit like her from certain angles/glances/shape and with the mannerisms and lip syncing.
I actually saw Yolanda in prison back in 96 or 95, my high school class for AP psychology had gone on a field trip to visit two different prison units. She was sitting in her cell reading a Bible. The guards didn't outright say it was her, but when I looked at one of the guards in a bit of disbelief, she just looked straight ahead after making eye contact with me and uttered "Yup".
What I loved about the series was that it explored more of Selena's story that many people didn't even get to see the original film. You actually learn more about her legacy and what went down behind the scenes.
23 years old. That's really too young. More young than the musicians who died and are in the "27 Club". *(Musicians like Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse)*
She was so sweet and caring, even when she suspected something was up she still made sure if she was ok. How can you hurt someone like that. She would have been such a great mother figure too
Ohhh sweet Selena…she did not deserve this, I seriously cry every time it’s like I relieve that moment when I found out news of her passing…I miss her so much…may god continue to rest her soul in piece!
My grandma was a huge Selena fan when she fought found out she was murder she actually cried from what my father told me. She never cried when her favorite celebrities dies she gets upset about it and moved on but when Selena died she cried for hours because she thought she will be alive for decades to come but it didn’t happen it hit her a lot she still listen to her music but once a while she will shed a few tears for what could’ve been.
My Mom loves Selena's songs and voice. We would listen to all Selena songs all the way home from school. What a Joyfull Beautifull Voice. Irreplaceable.
🦅You also must realize something as well , life's toughest circumstances will define it's layout of who your real friends are and who stays and who goes. Also along with what you said it's a wound that never heals. Yolanda is too much of a back stabber to have Selena as a dear friend and I hope the parole board denies her to walk free otherwise that woman is not going to have a moment of peace once she walks out of that prison. The fans of Selena are not going to give her a chance and she will be facing a barrage of death threats from left to right. Tbh I hope she pays BIG TIME for killing this beautiful young lady. Blessings
I felt so sad this morning I was driving to work and the station was playing one of her songs I just felt pain everytime yu hear her songs It takes yu back to that fateful day...Selena was so happy and full of life.. career wise and her love life made her more happy R.I.P
That girl is beautiful ... She's a proper casting choice for sure. When I get drunk I like to look at old performances of Selena. Love watching that girl dance.
worst mistake by Selena was confronting Yolanda by herself, having gone to the Hotel alone, either have police protection or have bodyguards accompanying her, or have her fiance Chris go with her.
Poor Selena. I loved her music when I was like... 6-7, maybe 8. I remember when she died even. One of my oldest memories. This girl in one of my classes around that time had one of her CD's and I remember thinking about taking it before I decided that was a shitty thing to do. Weird the memories we remember among the thousands of forgotten ones that were never solidified into our brain's hard drive.
I learned about Selena in music class for the past two weeks we read a who was book about her and as soon as it said she was dead it really struck me then we watched a movie called Selena and it showed her family getting the news and I just couldn’t imagine losing someone like that. Fly high Selena
Selena should've left Yolanda in the parking lot and went to the motel by herself. All she'd have to do is tell the manager or maid she left her key in the room to get in. Go through Yolanda's stuff, get her papers and leave. I'll never understand why she let that lying heifer in her truck.
@@GraceLove33 True, but after she lied about being raped why let her into the truck? Every year they replay the movie on the anniversary of her death and I get so upset. Her designer quit because of Yolanda. Her father kept warning her not o trust her. If only she had listened...

im indifferent to celebrity deaths. i feel sympathy for the friends, family and fans, but i dont cry. but something about selena makes me cry whenever i hear people talking about her. the details of her death., her personality, it was so genuine and kind and its so heartbreaking to know she loved and cared for everyone, hearing people talk about how shed treat her fans, hearing how she trusted people she literally just met. its so sad her trust and kindness got her killed. and she was nice enough to drive yolanda to the hospital before the shooting? makes me feel so upset. i cant imagine the fear she felt during her last moments. she was still so strong in the end. it mustve felt like the entire world was caving in on her. hearing the doctors say if it was just 1 millimeter up or down, she wouldve survived. and hearing what the paramedics had to say when they were trying to insert the IV is just horrible and so scary. and the autopsy results just really breaks me, it was so bad. she died so brutally. the bullet got her in just the wrong place. ive never heard hearing 1 bullet take someone out so brutally. i wish she wouldve survived, for everyone. she deserves to be here right now. her loved ones deserve to have her and see her every day. i wish nothing but the worst for yolanda. rest in peace beautiful selena, the most perfect angel up there.
That Yolanda never took responsibility well at all………… by the way this was well performed than the movie. This Yolanda look just as young as she was supposed to be but in the movie she look like she was old enough to be Selena’s mother or grandmother.

Christian Serratos is an amazing actress, and she did beautifully in the role! She also played Rosita Espinosa in The Walking Dead, and she was amazing in that role as well!
To Yolanda it seems like she thought the world was ending for her and that everything snow balled out of control that there was no turning back because she couldn’t take back all the wrong she did to Selena even if she wanted to (I’m not defending Yolanda just observing) if only selena would’ve been a bit less oblivious and naive and just kicked her out of the truck instead of going into the hotel room😭😮💨😞
If any of us can travel back in time and stop her from going into the hotel room with her. Ugh... KILLS ME everytime. Makes me wish I had the power to change the outcome. :(
Watching the end of this video I just kept repeating in my head as if I was her “I’m about to die” it’s so heart breaking. I’m 23 and I can’t imagine how many dreams and plans she had for the future.
Watched this show for the first time this past week, I thought I cried watching the movie. I bawled watching this because you see the back story more 🥺
It makes me feel bad that Selena Quintanilla Perez gets shot by her friend, I couldn't believe that Selena died so young, I wish I could go back to March 31st 1995 and I would of told Selena to not go to the room with Yolanda, I would of save Selena from getting shot.
When she passed away it was the saddest day in my life. It was as If I was losing a family member 🥀 she didn’t deserve to leave us. I still think till this day she would have made it so big.!! Oh dear, she would have had the life of a queen. But not only in music. People often forget she started a fashion line. I have no doubt in my mind that this combined with her music would have exploded into a colossal empire. But you'll see her on RU-vid and all the socials chatting with fans, vlogging, doing hair and makeup tutorials, inviting the big stars as well as old friends growing up. I know I'm probably just letting my imagination run wild with what could've been. But the way she was going, there's no denying it was well within her reach.

I was in my second year of college when Selena was killed. I had stopped by my aunt's house to visit with her before heading back home. I remember that I was driving out of my aunt's driveway (i was listening to the radio) when the DJ broke the news that Selena had been shot and that Cindy, Emilio's then-wife, was the person who had pulled the trigger. I still don’t understand why she went by herself. The night before her husband was with her she insisted him to stay in the car and wait. The next morning she leaves without waking up Chris by herself. Why did she insist on being alone I wish I knew the real conversation that went on in that room.
It wasn't just that Selena was kind hearted and trusting, which she certainly was ....but she was also very stubborn and headstrong. She should have listened to her husband and father, and left Yolanda alone! But what 23 year old does that typically? Three times, Yolanda had Selena running to her beckon call, even after her initial firing. Selena could have gone to the bank to get her own financial records. So sad and tragic.
I was in San Antonio on the 20th Anniversary of Selena's death and EVERY radio station was playing Selena or covers of Selena. Even the country, rock and classical stations.
