Alot of healer's I know say to not wet the selenite because of the flakes can harm you (they're toxic to breathe in) but in large amounts. I respect what you did Francisco!!! Thank you for doing this experiment.
Thank you for your time doing this experiment. I have had to clean dirty selenite before and had so many people tell me that I can't because it will dissolve, but as I kept telling them, not instantly. It can be rinsed and cleaned gently, it's common sense. Much love and blessings to all 💞❤️💕
Have you re weighed after a few days. I was just wondering if the drying process showed any weight loss? Or if putting it in water and letting it dry had an impact on the structure? Just curious.
Your scale is not capable of determining the difference between 54g and 52g because the repeatability of your scale is ±2g, so your results actually show that none of these crystals lost any mass. This could be because what you have is not selenite but rather calcite, which looks almost exactly like selenite, but is not water soluble.
Hi Steven, thanks for your comment! I made sure to do the fingernail test to check that it was Selenite and not Calcite. For reference, the Gem Society has a chart: www.gemsociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Mohs.jpg) Gypsum is a 2 and calcite is a 3 in the Mohs scale. A fingernail has a hardness of 2.5. You can scratch selenite with your fingernail but not calcite. Have a great Full Moon tonight!
Thanks for your comment, Allan. It's a very interesting topic of debate. We actually had a conversation about that in the forum. Check it out! forum.spells8.com/t/is-selenite-really-selenite/3020
I have a question.I’m a beginner crystal collector and yesterday I got this crystal,it was labeled as clear quartz but later after research I realized it was pure selenite. But after I came back from the store I stupidly washed it in water .Is it toxic now??
So this is actually a misconception. Sodium selenite is toxic, but thats a different compound from selenite (the crystal). Selenite is calcium sulfate, which could possibly toxic if you ate a lot of it, but otherwise is fine
