Wow. This is great. Are there any reliability tests yet?

interesting concept. You would need to convince me how is this more efficient than a variable pitch propeller.

Seems like a lot more surface area than a normal azi-pod. In this case, the normal azi-pod is a trolling motor, which doesn't have the frontal area of a small v6.

to clarify the concept over a conventional rim thruster the pitch changes with the increasing flow of water , with the initial position set with centrifugal forces ? is this just experimental or are you selling these thrusters ?

Hi Baals, Yes the pitch is adjusted, increasing with the water flow. But the centrifugal forces have a minor role there. The hydrodynamic force does it. Drag tends to increase the pitch, and Lift reduces it. This equilibrium remains over all the boat-speed / propeller-Rpm range. We are pre-selling our first model now, it looks like this : www.boatindustry.com/article/27492/hy-generation-trace-un-sillage-different-propulsion-electrique 4.5kW, potentially extended to 8kW. Available in July. This should be publihed soon on our website. Please contact@hy-generation.fr for more details !

Super Neat-O! Could you apply this idea to quad copters ? In closing the props would really improve safety! Thanks for this post . Patents 672256, 3190554, 3013505 .

What is the lifespan of the blades?

b8702131 well they look plastic so many years if u dot hit any rocks or sticks

@@the_1_who_sails_the_seasto367 They are shrouded against external strikes the greatest damage risk would come from a large branch or heavy rope going down the shroud and then scraping and twisting the whole mechanism ...same as with hitting something with a conventional drive leg. Small stuff weeds and fish go straight through.

Interesting engineering but it just seems way too complicated, what problem are you trying to overcome that a simpler (i.e. non-adjusting) design is unable to?

sorry for the late answer. We were try to get the few more % efficiency. But commercial models are fixed bladed.

Interesting … but what do you call "self adjusting" ?… Interesting thing with adjustable trim is that it can be adjusted by the helmsman …
@HyGeneration

Hi Vincent, Thank you for your question. We're solving 2issues here: 1- system complexity: conventional adjustable trim needs an ancillary control system, usually hydraulics drilled in the main shaft. 2- efficiency : the propeller is Always at its optimum position. Achieving this by hand or with external electronics would require a lot of means.
