Writing off your expenses as a self-employed person is VERY IMPORTANT! This video is for Shipt shoppers or any other gig-based app that focuses on delivery drivers! Also, can you do a video where you show how to sort your cart for a large Target order? Like if it fills up the entire cart but you have to bag everything yourself, how do you do that without bagging as you go? Cause I just ended up grabbing an empty cart at checkout to transfer my bagged items into as I sorted. Hah

YES! THEY DO! maybe not mileage/gas unless its for a specific job, but everything else, for sure! for digital creatives (which I am as well) its more so of calculating the business percent of each write off, like wifi, utilities, "office space" (if you use your home) etc. and the health insurance thing blew my mind!

I believe you can either deduct business mileages or car expenses but not both. Also, I don't believe that you can include mileage to and from your home to the store. My advice would be to make the store you frequent as your home base. Then calculate round trips to and from that store.

I love your videos. Very concise and helpful. But I never see any videos (on any channels) for people who do Shipt as a side hustle. I have a full-time job with insurance, benefits, etc. I'm curious as how all this applies to me as a "part-time gig worker". Namely, does it make the most sense for me to just use the standard mileage deduction? I tracked all Shipt miles on a mileage tracker app, and definitely want to deduct them. But I'll have my W-2 from my main job and my 1099-NEC from Shipt. Any thoughts ???

Shipt is a side hustle for me! I just don’t have a 9-5, but other freelancing opportunities so it is a little different for me. And what I would do is add up all of my miles and compare them to the standard mileage. Choose whichever one is more! 🤗 and remember, I’m not a tax professional 😫 but that’s what I would do!

To deduct meals it must be work related. Eating lunch while working is an ordinary cost. After all you would eat lunch anyway, working or not. But if you hosted someone and discussed work it could be deducted as a business expense. It's doubtful the IRS is going to audit a gig worker unless you start making oodles of money and/or you declare extraordinary expenses.

i'm so confused everyone else says the miles to your first job and from your last job from and back home do not count as those are commuter miles, unless you have your app on before you leave home and are accepting jobs before you get in your car to leave home; how can we find out for sure? and from your last job back home i'm pretty sure that doesn't count.

Found doesnt separate those, no bookkeeping app would, it would categorize the income as 1 transaction, but on your end, if you'd like to keep those separate, you could go in and note that! 🙂

Commute miles are NOT tax deductible. ie, from home to work and from work to home are NOT write offs. You can only write off mileage WHILE at work. *Not a tax professional, ask someone qualified.*

Since you use founder instead of quick books.. how do you track your miles?

You can input your miles into the found app as well! it doesnt automatically track miles YET, but I literally just had a conversation with the team at found, and it is on their to do list. But, I suggest recording your mileage at the end of the month and taking a percentage of it and inputting it into the app. (same as you would do for your phone bill) Im literally about to make a video on this!

Yes. There’s stipulations to it, and to clarify, you can’t write off both at the same time.

Yep! They do! The money doesn’t leave your account, it just sets it aside in a separate pool of money for you.

Try starting earlier, and don’t bite off more than you can chew! It’s okay to stick to smaller orders, or one order a delivery window!

you can keep your gas receipts and add them into your bookkeeping software, OR you can track your milage and use that, but I dont think you can do both!
