Self Filming Cost Me TWO BUCKS in ONE NIGHT. Late Season Bowhunting | Day 4
The challenge of bowhunting from a tree, late season, and self filming is certainly highlighted in this hunt. Sometimes they make it easy on you, other times they make it look like it's your first time. This was an example of the latter, although still a great hunt and evening in the deer woods!

I hear ya. Although it never really crosses my mind to put the camera second anymore, I've been doing it for so long that it's just an expectation now for me. I really do enjoy the challenge of capturing quality video, including the shot which is the most challenging. So I do it more for my own good than anything else and I'm okay with bucks getting away because of it. It's happened many times before and this won't be the last time! Thank you for watching!

Good show Jared. It’s not all about the shot and the trophy. Learning the bush, the deer and just being out there covered up in watchful eyes. It is amazing to me that you get even that close to pulling the trigger. Lots of challenges but I love watching the trials and tribulations as well as the shots. Keep the shows coming!!!

@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Thanks TFisadog. I'm as fascinated by big antlers as the next guy but I wouldn't say I categorize it as trophy hunting. It's really just the challenge and chase that I enjoy. Oftentimes, the biggest antlered or oldest bucks provide the best challenge as a bowhunter. I'm driven by that, but as you alluded to, the experience is really what it's all about. Everyone's experience or reason for doing it can be different, but as long as it's enjoyable that's what matters. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
@thedirty3306
@thedirty3306 Год назад
It’s like the two big crappie you have in your photo. We love to eat them, but it’s fun to chase the big ones. The important thing is to eat what you kill. @wolfpack4128 Год назад
You have a high quality camera, don't zoom in on the deer so much once they are in range, pan back out to wide angle. You can zoom in during edit. That way you don't have to fiddle with it as much. You could get an intern to film and do editing as well.
@wolfpack4128
@wolfpack4128 Год назад
Also a GoPro on your head can help get action that goes off screen from the main camera and can add a cool perspective even when the main camera captures it.
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Thanks wolfpack. Using a mirrorless camera, it's not really the zoom that I have to mess with too much, it's more the focus. The shallow depth of field results in some great video but it's also more of a challenge. And it's just the movement of letting go of the camera and getting my bow and drawing back that is the bigger hurdle, especially this time of year. I've thought about the head GoPro as well, I might try that at some point. Thanks for watching.

You want to see pressured, come hunt public land were someone is riding their ATV, snowmobile, walking their dog, shooting, etc. almost every day. I am surprised you didn't get busted with that many deer around you all evening, you must practice good scent control.
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
For sure Crypto, I understand there are always going to be much higher pressure scenarios. However, I just like to accurately share what the situation is on these hunts. I think a lot of people, righfully so, watch some of the filmed hunts on TV or RU-vid and assume that its a low pressure, highly managed area that is not relatable to them or their situation.

I used to video my kids when they were younger until I realized all I was doing was watching my kids through a camera and never really got to enjoy it. You only have 1 life. Ditch the video camera you will enjoy for yourself instead of videoing for people you’ve never met.
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Hey JP- I get that perspective for sure. For me it's a little different though. My passion for filming and reason for continuing to do it is to be able to relive those memories at any time because of the video. Literally every deer that I've killed over the last 13 years I could go watch right now and it puts me right back in that experience. It's possible some people can do that through just their memory recall, but for me the video has been way more powerful in that regard. And, the more I film in any given hunt, the more details I can preserve for accurately reliving it. So that's my reason for doing this. While I also enjoy sharing my experiences with everyone here, it's not my primary reason for taking a camera to the woods with me every day. Thanks for watching.
