This video is a bit tongue in cheek, but it is totally real I promise.
Self fixing car? Vauxhall Tigra repairs itself…magic!
What happened prior to this video, which you can see in my prior video
• Did I buy the worst ca...
is that when I bought this car, the roof and boot systems were working fine. It also didn’t have the appearance of a swimming pool either, because when I got it, it wasn’t raining!
I only used this as a bit of fun, much like I did with my old SLK.
I thought that I would be similar but would get great fuel mileage as well so that my work gravelling costs would be greatly reduced.
In the end, my long trips dropped off so I didn’t really need it for that. Hence it was just a ‘toy’.
I drove it a couple of times in good weather with the top down and it really wasn’t bad.
Then, one day the roof refused to work. Not only that, but the boot wouldn’t open either. Very frustrating.
I had a look around and there are a couple of specialists who can sort this out as both of these issues (which are directly connected) are extremely well known. Problem is, in my paperwork that came with the car, there was a receipt from one of these dated only a year ago, for having this work done.
Cost? £600.
I contacted them, but they weren’t particularly helpful, and the thought of spending another £600 on this car didn’t appeal. I’ve decided to just drive it around as I don’t think it’s worth much now. I bought it for £1350.
Yup, that’s me!
Anyway, to get back to the video, one day when unlocking the car, it made a couple of beeps and the hazards flashed.
When I got home the boot was working again….
Now watch the video

we had one from 2014 to 2020, definitely not a car you want to rely on in the winter lol. not very often you have to scrape ice from the inside of the windshield. i'm sure the dirty wet cloth in the driver's door pocket is something every tigra owner can relate to

Our Tabitha has the same problems. Wet footwells, the boot and the roof now don’t work at all. The boot worked up until about a month ago, but we did have to help it to shut as it never locked down properly. I hope when the MOT comes round she miraculously fixes herself, otherwise she may have to go, and I don’t want that at all as I love her, especially now that Felicity (Fiesta) has also died recently 😢

You often hear stories about certain cars, in that some of them have bad issues. I have always believed that these cases are a small percentage of. However, in the case of the Tigra, these horror stories are extremely widespread. I’ve never had so many problems with any car and I’ve owned more than 150. I’ll certainly never buy another one of those. It’s a shame, because the car drove very well.

I've had problem after problem since I bought this car. Everything you could think of has broken down on me and fixed at least twice. But I am still in love with it. It's like stockholm syndrome. I had the leakage repaired for 1100 bucks. It's caused by the waterreservoir right under the windshield overflowing.

Good for you. You’ve got a lot more love for yours than I had. I was not upset at all when I got rid of it!

The switches on drivers door can get wet when exposed to rain if door open. Replacement from ebay less than £20. Damp in foorwells usually from blocked drain in bottom of doors.

Quite right. I addressed all those in various videos when I had that car. Thanks for sharing your views

I feel for you! I’ve given up on mine. I just drive it around unable to lower the roof or easily get into the boot. I wish I never bought the thing!!

I bought one of these for my daughter....2006...have had zero problems with roof or electric boot....we call them boots in Australia.....not sure about UK...maybe trunk...doesn't matter....no problems what so ever....as for water in the cabin...no problems either... but do the maintenance up...clean the drain holes regularly...compressed air...and keep them well lubricated....they can be a bit tricky but maintenance is important.. The biggest problem i have had is the window regulators...have replaced many and having trouble finding them in Australian so i buy them in Europe...no problem and cheaper. These cars were sold in Australia by GM....the Holden Tigra.. Great car 120000ks now very few problems but well maintained and serviced..

Hello happy owner. What are you calling the " drain holes " and where are they, please ? 🙏 I have the opel version, she (yes "she", because i love her 😅) had the same problem that the owner of this youtube channel ("free swiming pool" inside 😐) Oh, btw, for the roof problem the solution was very easy for me: remove the plastic stuff above the switchs and spray some WD 40 on the contactors. After that it worked PERFECTLY 👍 (hope that it can help someone reading that, in the futur)

@henji_6331 ...ok...the car is not here at the moment....daughter is at work. When its here i will get video of drain holes...and the correct way that the rubber seals must be aligned....that is the most important thing.

The windows are supposed to role up on their own if its finished with opening the roof. I'm assuming it either threw an error before it closed completely or you didn't hold the button up long enough for it to finish, it should beep when done. With the boot you only have to pull up the button once, same goes for the back button once is open and hold is closing. My whole system works but even then the boot button from inside the car is a bit iffy sometimes. I'm probably doing something wrong.

Yes, I understand the procedure. When it was working it did so as you’ve described. It just stopped doing it one day. I’m pretty sure there’s a wiring issue in mine. I’m not bothered any more as I’ve had enough of it. Thanks for the information though.

I think those cars are all possessed lol. By the way I have one this that was swim pool too, did you sort out this issue? I just cut off a small piece of the rubber and underneath of the car have like a plastic lid, just take off and solve the water problem. The roof still not working, maybe I need call a priest 😅

Other than the issues mentioned above how is the car? the driving comfort etc?

The car drove very well but it’s not enough. Buying one of these is a huge gamble. I’d recommend an mx5 or Mercedes SLK rather than a tigra, or Peugeot 206cc. I cannot stress enough how bad these cars can be. All the problems are VERY common. The SLK can be bought for a similar price and doesn’t have these issues. At the end of the day, it’s your choice, but for me, the chances of you getting one of the good ones, is not at all high. If you do decide to get one, have it professionally checked out. Good luck.

@@shoestringmotoring there is one now its 1.8 cc engine version. No leakeage from the ceiling what so ever. no previous accident and ceiling working just fine... but still. The mercedes slk versions are high cc with a lot of text where i live....
