We Did It! And we are so glad we did!
This is our own little tropical paradise!
We moved from the big city to a rural acreage in the tropics to chill out and become more self-sufficient.
Tropical fruit trees, veggie garden, chickens and beautiful fresh "super" eggs daily.
Come for the tour and see what we've achieved in just 2 years and 3 months!

Stuff we love 😁And we think you will too😊

Hello. I love watching your show. We are going to Hoi Ann soon as well. I've been there before and loved it. I am skipping the main towns this time round but visiting Hoi An again. One of the places you might enjoy or might have already been too is Hoi An Cooking Class at Tra Que vegetable/herb village. My brother has been there a couple times and we are planning to go too. There is a restaurant near there Kumquat BBQ Restaurant that uses herbs and vegetables from the village. We love it and eat there several times while visiting. Looking forward to seeing your trip footage.

Hi! So glad you are enjoying the channel!!!! 🤠Lol.... didn't consider the change of seasons 😂Plant a heap of herbs especially spring onions (just use the bottoms from the supermarket) , cherry tomatoes because they will take you a good way into the wet season. And the tropical stuff that will set you up for life- Winged beans, cucamelons, abika, longevity spinach, tree lettuce, snake beans, ginger, tumeric, galangal, chillies, Okinawa spinach, sweet potatoes, lemongrass, papaya (skybury papaya seeds from the papaya at the markets) ...tired yet???😂 .......Limberlost nursery has a lot of these and once you have them growing they are either perennial or self seeding. Bunnings has a heap of herbs and cherry tomatoes 🤠Good luck and enjoy paradise!!!! Have a great day!😁🌴

@vintagefoodfarm if you ever have a seedling sale and a garden tour, I would love to see those videos progressively or in person. I have this dream of growing my own edible garden since the beginning of covid. My current depression has me struggling to get out and grow. But the sun rises and sets and so I try and try again. Thank you for you response and your videos.

Love watching what your doing with your amazing garden, reminds me so much of the Philippines which is where my wife is from. Have you tried eating the banana flower? its absolutely amazing to eat. The only fruit I would suggest you try is the Rambutan (hairy balls as I call them) such an amazing fruit to eat. That tool board to very old school and is called a shadow board. Keep up your great work both of you and stay safe.
@vintagefoodfarm
@vintagefoodfarm Год назад
Hi Adrian! So glad you like the videos!!! Yes we eat banana flower and love it! We leant how to eat it in Vietnam and Cambodia. The chickens love them too lol 😁We love Rambutans but we haven't found a tree yet .The are such a yummy fruit. Thank you so much for telling us about the shadow board! That is so good to know and makes a lot of sense🤠We really want to go to the Philippines after our next holiday and see some farms and markets (and eat a lot of food😋). We have calamansi's and moringa trees so we want to see more ways to eat them. We do a marinade of calamansi and soy sauce that a Pilipino friend told me how to make and we cant get enough of it. Anyway thanks for saying hi. Have a great day and thanks heaps 😁

Hello, I'm happy to have found your channel and look forward to watching some more of your content. Your property looks lush, green, and very productive. Very different to our cool temperate climate here in Victoria, which can be equally productive but in different ways. You have perhaps answered this in one of your vids but do you encounter pythons often?
@vintagefoodfarm
@vintagefoodfarm Год назад
Hi Richard! Yes we get massive pythons all the time! In the wet season once a week.🫤🤠 Link- ru-vid.comv-6IXGqW-7g?feature=share We know a really awesome snake catcher called Claude that lives really close! You wouldn't believe it but we are getting used to them lol. Locals up here say "it's JUST a python!" You are so right in saying that everywhere can be productive in its own style! So glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for saying hi! I think I need to do a video on pythons one day🤠
@richardsilver98
@richardsilver98 Год назад
@@vintagefoodfarm yep, I was pretty certain you would get pythons and all power to you for becoming accustomed to them. We get our share of eastern brown snakes but, so far, my experience is that given any opportunity to do so they will move completely out of the way, probably before we even notice. Still....😳

Lovely, its my dream, moving from uk, but not sure how safe it is in far north queensland, and how far I need to be to be able to grow food all year around for self suffiency.. can you give an idea where to look for properties like yours!
@vintagefoodfarm
@vintagefoodfarm Год назад
Hi gayatrigosavi2008! You wouldn't need to come up this far. There are people as low as Mackay growing tropical food all year. There is still the same dangers though like cyclones and pythons lol. There are heaps of cool properties in land from Cairns if you feel like living the dream🤠 Thanks so much for saying hi! Have a great day 😁

Out of interest how do you deal with snakes and chickens
@vintagefoodfarm
@vintagefoodfarm Год назад
Hi Jamie! Wow! That would make a great video! Thanks! 🤠 Firstly the snake catchers call Speewah "the land of the giants!!!" because we have so many huge pythons 😭🐍 We have snake proof coops that we carefully check each night before we lock the chickens up. We find the snakes come in during the day and hide in the coop waiting until night when they strike. We have had 3 pythons and 1 brown tree snake in or on the coop. The most effective thing we have is an electric fence around the small run that we turn on each night. For the first year or so we had no snakes in the coop and then the electric fence broke and we had 4 in a few months. We have now fixed the electric fence again and no snakes so far 🤞🏻 The other thing we do is free range which might seem more dangerous but if there is a snake there is room for the chickens to get away and the snake couldn't kill all the chickens at once. A snake will kill as many chickens as it can in anticipation to coming back for the rest once it's digested the ones it's eating (I believe). We have lost some guineafowl keets to snakes when the electric fence was down but we haven't lost any chickens yet. We also have guinea fowl which are supposed to deter snakes but I can't be sure either way if they do. What the guineas do do is alert you that there is something there like a hawk, snake, goanna etc. by screaming and putting on a loud show. When the chickens hear the guineas go off they run for cover and we know there is something wrong. When we have had a snake on or near the coop we call our snake catcher, Claude, who will come and relocate it. Also limit the number of hidey holes in and around the coop 😁 Hope that all makes sense! Have a great day 🤠Look out for a video on chickens and snakes 😁
