Okay not even gonna lie, the title got me here so fair play. These cars have merit but they’re just like every other turbo 2.0 4 cylinder in the market. I have an M240i but it’s the same car as the 140 really. I’ve spent a little money and fixed the understeer (diff + wider track widths front and rear) and the car is an absolute peach. Nothing else gives 6 cylinders, 6 manual gears and a rear drive chassis so any MX40i owners are likely looking at the incoming M240i or a straight up M car. Great work though.
Appreciate that mate, plenty truths there…my point is that a stock 140i vs tuned 135i feels just as quick and not as wobbly as the 140i feels..the 135i chassis can handle the engine and a tune out of the box as opposed to the 140
@@TimWilliamsHD yeah I agree with you there, everything I’ve done has been to increase control and confidence. With the mods I’ve done the car is more sure footed and stable but turn in and mid corner balance is also much better. These cars have always needed some mods here and there to shine. Guess the M135i needs less of that though.
@@ShogunsDojo As Tim knows, ive just bought one of these and i kid you not the grip id fantastic, like i said to Tim it aint no B58, i had the M240i and yes ill miss that sound but what ive gained is much more, the grip, the turn in, the confidence one of these gives is on a different level and yes ive had 2 M240i's both auto and manual, would i swap back? no chance. For all those saying you wouldnt turn to the dark side (4 pot) take one out for a test drive, not just around the block, a propper test drive then throw it in to a corner on the B roads and see how it makes you smile.
Definitely, having owned the 140 it’s nice to get out in a hatchback that doesn’t need anything other than a (maybe) tuning box depending on your previous cars to be able to do your usual day to day stuff and still be thrashed on a Sunday morning B road drive!
I did exactly this. Ditched my M140i for an F40 M135i. Never looked back. Yes it doesn't have the same RWD 6 cylinder engine, but by god it's an improvement/refinement of the 140i The smile I got from the newer F40 series vs the older 140i was just night and day. Ignore the purists. Try it for yourself. The 140i only has 35 more BHP than this M135i, but lacks the AWD. So for me it was a solid winner for the F40. Means I can stick a tuning box on it and get the same power as the 140i
I’ve had my 140 for 3 years and it remains addictive to drive as it did on day one ☝️ I’m sorry to say that I would never make the swap but that’s not to say the 135i isn’t a good car. People keep talking about cars with AWD etc being safer but a car is only as safe as the person behind the wheel. I know the limit of my car in bad weather but I manage its limitations so have never lost control or even come close to it. Good video though mate, you should work for BMW 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The m140i is something special because of its flaws it has a personality and character they don't make car like this anymore with this new m135i it has no heart it's just another hatchback competing in the market place with the likes of golf r s3 like you said in the beginning of the video there's no point comparing the two but lovely video
Excellent content again Tim. Motech unit so so tidy/clean. Highly desirable Bmw 135M. Styled so nicely. Excellent editing you created. More please. U.K. supports you.
Nice video Tim. Would be good to see a stock versus tuning box view. I can’t decide whether to take the plunge. Looking forward to the long teased Motech video on it
The new 1 series is a great car, I'd much rather have one than the equivalent Golf or VAG. It's just massively inferior to the older model for the enthusiast. The new 240 gives some hope but it's a coupe and weighs more than an old M5 :(
If I needed an upgrade from a 140 that I didn’t take on track, did the occasional Sunday blast and used 5doors to do my normal day to day jobs I’d happily upgrade knowing I had all year round top grip, a nicer interior, modern looking and beefier car..it definitely would need a tuning box however…I feel a lot of 140i owners naturally know they’ve got a peach of a car which I agree with, but going forward if you’re looking for a 5 door hatch back you’ll be lucky to get rwd 6 cylinder so I feel you’ve got to move with the times…
Sorry but my m140i with a diff, a cheap b12 kit and wider wheels is so much fun and i couldent think of a worse upgrade than to switch to yet another 4 cylinder all wheel drive car, yawn yawn yawn. Im kind of glad you are praising this car so highly as you selling your m140i made me doubt owning mine a bit as you said it never felt surefooted, well i can hand on heart say with the mods ive done it does feel surefooted and its incredible fun. More than can be said for a 4pot 4wd car with traction traction traction. Im not a fanboy, i just like 'proper' drivers cars. This to me is a clinical does everything car.
Don’t ever apologise bud! Remember me selling mine was due to wanting something more track friendly..I absolutely love the Mlites and would happily have another one knowing what I know now about m car handling and I’d learn to drive it accordingly! The title has triggered a few but hey that’s RU-vid! 😆 Sell me your 140i for my m2?
@@TimWilliamsHD Haha i love my m140i, couldent see it go not going to lie. I love the road presence and the noise of the m2 and i know out of the box it handles better but im very happy with how my m140i is set up now. I run 245 up front 255 rear and my wheels sit further out than stock about 15-20mm i cant remember the exact figure but they sit close to flush to the arch without rubbing, i feel like this wider track makes a huge difference, combined with lsd/b12 kit and rear bush inserts it is so well set up.
Hell NO. why would I downgrade from a silky smooth zf8 paired with the beautiful b58 and rear wheel drive to a Chinese gearbox 4 pot lifeless fart box. NO THANKS
Because you can't get xDrive 140i in UK and the rwd car is worse than f40 135i overall (having had both for 2 years and a little over 18 months respectively). New car way nicer to live with every day imo as daily driver
Yes for out of the box performance with no wobbly rear end and perfect daily..my 140 was always needing fiddling about with and I did all I can..engine outperforms chassis without a doubt
@@TimWilliamsHD sad thing is the m140i was levels ahead of the golfs an other hot hatches in its price range for power, think the new golf r would eat the new 135i
Not at all! If you were going to upgrade from a m140 for a new current bmw that offers everything better other than a powerful engine what would it be?
Haven't even watched the video and it's a NO from me. Everybody, hang onto your F2x M135i/M140i. In a few years time they'll be worth more than these generic machines.
