Sorry to hear you’re going through this. I love your channel!! I recently had to sell my legacy speakers also do to similar reasons. I tried to be happy with a smaller scale speaker of a different brand, but found I wasn’t happy…. so I also sold those speakers and now I’m just waiting till I can buy more legacy’s…. I’m sure you have also, but I’ve found all of the legacy speakers sound similar but just better as you go up the line. I had focus 20/20s with the silverscreen ii and studio surrounds and honestly as much as I regret selling them, they really arnt that bad of a price used. So maybe you could look into that generation of legacy set up. You could keep the legacy signature sound with pennies on the dollar compared to what you have now. I’ve personally also contemplated just going 5 or 7 legacy studios because even the good towers of another brand I’ve had recently didn’t compare to the sound of the studios.. I’ve been into audio for most of my life and legacy just has always been my reference even though I’ve had many good speakers. I just like their sound and find myself always comparing other speakers to them.

Consider philharmonic. Amazing freq response, they have great dispersion, they have a low hitting f3, they share a similar aesthetic to your legacy speakers, and they are inexpensive.

I feel your pain, my own 41 year old son was also severely affected by the end of a Federal govt contract here in the US. Wise decision to move on from the Legacy set up. Unfortunately, you will likely take a 40% loss for what you paid. As for a neutral speaker to replace the Legacy, go demo Kef R11 meta towers with R6 center, R3 meta for surrounds. Subs will be needed, which you already have great ones. The Kef r meta series are neutral indeed yet still deliver a lively presentation. For a higher quality option the fabulous Paradigm Persona line from your great country of Canadaise a great option. The Persona 3F in the used market in Canada is a fantastic value to performance choice. Continue to persevere, the quality of person you are, and your commitment to your family will deliver in the long run.

Thanks brother I truly appreciate that! I did negotiate on the price for the Legacy, but I'm fully expecting to take a bit of a loss on them. That is just the nature of this hobby unfortunately. I am considering checking what the used market has to offer. I have considered the Persona's in the past. I don't think they are very neutral though, they have some character in their sound.

id quit that job, and go else where. Pay cuts in 2024 is unacceptable, when we are now paying for the consequences of printing all that money in 2021 - 2023 with higher inflation. You need a dramatic pay increase, not a pay cut lol. go else where.

Sorry to hear you have to sell your dream speakers. A tough decision forced on you. Depending how loud you listen and room size, the Kef r may get you by. A coaxial design does break up at loud levels. that's just physics. I use Kef ls50 at my desk for nearfield, and when I'm up doing stuff in a smallish room with a rythmik f12 sub. For large rooms and loud movies you can't beat legacy and paradigm. The aeris do look overkill in that room, have you thought about downsize to a smaller, less expensive legacy setup? I believe they have a trade-in policy, but its for upgrading though.

This is sad, when you work your rear end off to get where you are only to get pushed back, it’s painful. This could not be an easy video to make. I wish you wel. From a legacy Audio perspective, you are the only channel I know of that put your money where your mouth is. I’ve seen no better brand promotion at your own expense. I know what you have and not a word you’ve said about the product is wrong. It’s 100% accurate. Best wishes

In Canada you can only sign a mortgage for a set number of years. My last renewal was for 5 years. After that 5 years you need to resign at whatever the current rates are. Just like many countries, our rates are significantly higher now. I only signed for 3 years this time. Which means I'm stuck at this rate for a minimum pf 2.5 years. After which I can choose to resign 6 months early, if the rates are lower by then.

@@SpecOfTech I’m so sorry brother. Not to brag but we locked in 2.7 apr 30 year note on a 3,000sf home at $280,000.00 back in 2017. Only financed $216,000. House is now worth $490,000 and we pay $850 on the mortgage. The taxes are almost higher than the mortgage now. Wish you guys had a better system

Hey brother, no, I never heard from them about a Sub 2. I wish they would send one for review, they don't get near enough attention. That being said they are out of reach for most consumers. I'd love to have a couple of those in my room though.

@@SpecOfTech I think I need to contact to them again, because they were initially very enthusiastic about my idea :) "couple of them"? :D Believe me, one SUB 2, 110KG, 4500W (9000 peak), would be more than enough in your room. Reviewers could not find the limits of this subwoofer, they were afraid of the durability of their listening rooms, that they would be destroyed sooner than SUB 2 :D Paradigm not by accident calls it the best subwoofer in the world to this day. Its bass also has a different character than those large-box subwoofers with bass reflexes that you had/have many of. The paradigm bass is pleasantly fat (meaty), creates such a bass cushion while watching movies, and in music it is hard to find a faster subwoofer.. I'll see what they write back to me now. For such a large company as Paradigm, sending you one piece for testing is NO problem..

Thanks man, much appreciated. Absolutely, our country has taken a drastic turn in the last 5 years or so. It's incredible to look at how much more expensive everything has gotten, and it's so hard to find a job where your wage goes up at all, let alone at the same rate as inflation. I'm not going to sweat it, things always have a way of working out in the end. The trick is to keep adjusting. I have no doubt I will end up with more dream speakers in the future. I appreciate the encouragement man. I wish you and your journey all the best also. I see that you've been putting out more content and some good things have happened allowing you to attend some shows. Keep at it brother, it's not an easy road, but nothing truly worth it is ever easy.

I'm really sorry about your job, etc...That really stinks. Your reviews of the Anthem 90 helped me decide on getting one. I do have a recommendation for a speaker for you. I have Perlisten R7Ts, but I'm most likely going to sell them and get the Bryston Middle T. That speaker is neutral like the Perlistens, but has tremendous bass output and a much wider soundstage. I think you'd find them much to your liking and they are a Canadian Company to boot. You must do what you can to hear them.

I just finished listening to the review of the speakers you intend to sell. Based on your description of these speakers, I would not sell them. They sound beautiful. But I understand priorities. I have the Founder 120H and love them. But based on your description, those are higher level. Would love to hear them.

Kef r series is really good. Another one is yamaha ns2000. Seeing as you switch speakers, id go with kef. Easier to resell.

@@SpecOfTech So many different speakers. lol! PSB T2's , Paradigm Studio 10 v5 think it was?, I had Klipsch Heresy III'S , Tekton Impact Monitors, and more. I was young and wanted try different speakers all the time. Nothing ever moved me more then Legacy speakers did . They were truly full range and made music so enjoyable no matter what type of music it was. I dream of owning them again someday.

i agree i think golden ear would be a better choice than the KEF's or the SVS's but im betting spec of tech seems like he likes to be able to see the drivers on the speakers and the only golden ear towers that somewhat do that are the T66's. other than that bang for buck they are some of the best.

You nailed it. Aesthetic is important to me and Golden Ear speakers just don't do it for me. Unless my preferences change, I don't see my self going with Golden Ear. Even though I know that they are a fantastic bang for buck ratio.

I wonder if going a HT Proacoustics direction, or maybe just go with the Paradigm Founders we know you liked?! 🎉 also the Atlantic tech 8600 series may be good!? 🎉 However, I think you should wait till the Arendal 1528 series comes out!! I know Arendal has an excellent Ambassador program which may help get a good product with some subsidies? Just a thought. 🎉(might be a conflict of interest tho if you’re using them as your reference). Of course there’s always JTR AND RBH but not sure if that’s gonna help the $$ part 🎉 just throwing out ideas here, you def have more experience with

haha I have already emailed Arendal asking for details on the 1528's, but they can't say anything yet. But you nailed it man, I have those on my radar. I'm just not sure if they will fit the bill on the financial aspect. This is their venture into high end audio, so I'm curious where they will sit price wise.

No the speakers I'm selling aren't available through Arendal. The speakers I'm selling are Legacy Audio. My actual speakers will only be available on the classified sites I list them on, sorry.

Just wanted to add, these things suck, but never under estimate your ability to adapt. I had something similar happen in 2021 when I lost a very well paying job making close to 200k/yr. I'll never make that kind of money again most likely (very specific skill set), but it opened up other offers and my work/life balance now is so much better. Just gotta save up a little longer for AV purchases.

Brother, I always love your videos but this one I especially love because of the transparency. With your knowledge, I'd hoped you were working in the tech sector. No pay cuts for us. As for replacement speakers, I'd strongly recommend the Legacy Focus SE's. I haven't heard the Aeris line but, I've had my Focus SE's for a couple of years now and they are phenomenal. If I were in Canada I'd be hitting you up for a trade offer as I'd love to own the Aeris line. Since I'm in the South Eastern US, I suspect shipping charges would make a swap impractical. Better things are in your future, Barrett!

KEF, mid-tier RBH with Reference Drivers, or if your budget can handle it: Perlisten R-series. Those are the speakers that come to my mind as the epitome of neutrality, at least measurement-wise and per reviews within a reasonable budget. (For context, I've owned KEFs and RBHs for years now, but i have yet to hear Perlistens but I've probably read and watched every review that exists for Perlistens.) KEF or RBH is probably the way to go for budget, but I think you should consider RBH or Perlisten if you want to try something new for your channel, i.e. to get more views when you get your new system. RBH is rarely reviewed by any channel besides Audioholics, so it would be good to get an outside/fresh perspective on RBH. But I know that I have been very curious to get your take on Perlisten after all of the other speakers you've heard, and I am willing to bet many others would like your opinion on Perlisten as well... especially having just come from Legacy.

Thanks for the suggestions brother. I am really hoping to keep the costs down on the next set of speakers. I don't think Perlisten fit the bill for that. I'm not to familiar with RBH pricing, but I think for the most part they are higher priced than what I want to spend at the moment. No doubt they all sound fantastic though. This next purchase will be about what is good for me as individual. I will undoubtedly make videos about them for the channel, but priority one is to get something that fits me financially.

Sad, the end of a "Legacy" is coming. On the bright side, you have had a opportunity to experience high end audio, which most of us would love to do. Those Legacy are frickin awesome! That really is the smartest way to go. A company will always have their best interests at heart, with very little regard on how it affects you. Even if you have saved them hundreds of thousands, possibly millions in the past. When push comes to shove, they will change your life however they see fit without a second thought. Starting your own business truly is the best option. I wish your business all the luck and success brother. I think I will be doing the same in the near future.

In Canada you can choose to sign for certain terms, whether 2 year, 3 or 5 etc. After that term is up, you need to resign the mortgage, and you are a victim of the current mortgage rates when you resign.

Not sure if I agree that the KEF R-series are "neutral". I think they are kind of harsh and hot in the treble, with a tendency of sibilance. Also I find the midrange somewhat "beamy" like a megaphone.

@@SpecOfTech Yeah I have seen they look very good on paper. I have auditioned them for many hours. They do have a pretty harsh and sibilant tweeter. I don’t think a simple frequenzy measurement will show that.

I agree 100%. I hadn't seen a pay increase for about 5 years, then to have it cut instead of increased...was tough to swallow. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise, maybe this is the push I needed to venture out and get more involved in the audio industry.

Sorry to hear, the ups and downs of the oil industry must be frustrating. Don’t laugh but since your next speakers are likely temporary you could save allot of money and have some fun if you went with CerwinVega! XLS 215. They actually do quite well in a theatre. Unfortunately I don’t think there is a dealer in Alberta. The new Arendals look really nice! The KEFs are Beutys too. There is also some really good deals on the Polk Legend series now. That’s a really nice looking speaker for the price. Good luck with everything!
