In today's video Trent Jr and Mark deal with a flatbed trailer whose load shifted to one side. The company requested we use our rotator to shift the load back to the center and allow the driver to continue on.

Q:What camera do you use?
A: I use the Go Pro Hero 7 Black Edition primarily. Often times you will see auxillary cameras in use. Those cameras include The Go Pro Hero 6, Hero, and DJI Mavic Pro Platinum
Q: How big Is your rotator?
A: It is a 50 ton Miller Industries Vulcan 950
Q: Does the carriage slide back like Ron Pratt's?
A: No, the carriage doesn't slide back due to strict weight laws in California. The sliding carriage will make the truck to heavy in CA
Q: Why do you only have 3 winches on the rotator?
A: Comes down to weight again as stated above
Q: How many trucks Does Plaza Towing have?
A: Currently more than 30
Q: Why must the driveshaft be removed to tow a vehicle?
A: When vehicles are not running the transmission is not receiving circulating lubricant. If the driveshaft is left installed, the transmission, which is not receiving lubricant, is still spinning. This allows it to get very hot which eventually will cause major damage to the transmission. Therefore, removing the driveshaft completely eliminates the transmission from spinning. Simply leaving it in neutral is not sufficient since the transmission still spins in neutral.

Driver did the right thing and you all were very supportive of him. Appreciate that. I've definitely seen cases where a rotator will come out and just be a jerk to the guy who is trying to do the right thing and fix a problem that just happens when you are out there. In the end, the jerk rotator operator just makes an already bad situation that much worse 🤦🏾‍♂️ We are all safer on the road when people don't act like jerks to each other across the board.

I see no gut straps either. Need some if over 2 units high. Thats how it is here in Oregon anyhow.

The load should have been strapped at half height, and or belly strapped, tarps are to keep a load dry, not to be part of the restraining.

Trent, I wonder if those straps got burned by friction. Some drivers put a twist in their straps so they won't "Buzz" in the wind and vibrate on sharp corners causing them to melt?

As a flat operator you should never put an under mount winch over a drive tire. They Will rub. Ask me how I know. Downtown Dallas, morning traffic, cut my strap, drove over the end and pulled my winch right off the trailer. Fun.

No way that strap burned like that from stress. Wondering if he mad a right turn off cambered and the tires hit the straps. Is it possible he drove with the bags dropped?

Something is fishy with that burned strap. It can't fail like that. Either he bought them at the dollar store or isn't telling us something!

Kinda looks like the trailer was involved in an accident of some kind. Burnt straps and the winch track is bent out on the trailer where the damaged straps were located. Also at around 1:50, looks like he has tire damage on his front left drive tire where cap meets sidewall.

That’s why truck drivers, make sure your damn load is strapped down tight, and do your damn walk around... unless something else caused the load to move then nevermind. I kind of think that load shift jobs are a waste of time because I have to l take the rotator out and just pull the load back in its spot. The load wouldn’t of shifted if the driver would of done his job strapping it down tightly, and making sure it’s all good. Unless something else made it move then yeah it’s not a waste of time then.

JacksonGeetarguy 97 hello, speaking of tight loads, I knew a supervisor at the FORD PLANT IN MAHWAH NJ, & they had too many warranty front end damage, & so after loading cars onto trucks, things looked OK, but within a mile down ROUTE17 SO , THE TRUCKERS PULD OVER AND REALLY TIGHTENED THEM UP, WHICH BENT EVERY CARS FRONT END, and they were being filmed doing so, , and BYU’s NG the cars serial #s they were able to back charge the TRUCKING COMPANY FOR EVERY CAR THAT THEY DAMAGED IN COURT, IT RAN INTO REAL SERIOUS MONEY DAMAGES. CHEERS FROM NJ🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Trent, I realize these straps are long, but could you have put a master link in the middle of the strap, and anchored both ends at the trailer frame to shorten the straps by half?
@archibaldtuttle8481

There is so much wrong here... I speak as a 'swamper' from the oil patch. I would 'choke' strap no more than two layers together to the deck. 3rd & 4th layers - choke strapped on top of the first pair. Each layer after that, choked individually. Very time consuming and expensive, I know, but over time your insurance and avoiding rescue calls like the one presented here will save you money. You get a reputation for losing loads and everyone will know. Luck will only take you so far. Nylon stretches, great for absorbing shock loads. No way in hell even a 300lb man with a lever ( maybe 25 to 1 ratio ) can tighten those straps enough to hold it. With a longer lever and greater force, you would probably do damage to the load - I don't know because they have not told us what the material is. The taller the load the greater is the moment of inertia. Lucky that no one was killed.

Overall not the best tarpping I've seen, especially the back end. Loads that end like that aren't easy, but what good was that tarp at the back doing?

r stewardson the wind 🌬 💨 is a driver’s enemy in flatbed especially when cutting corners and half a$$ing it. I see these tarp jobs all the time flapping in the wind ruining the tarp. Three tarps should’ve covered a 53 feet trailer.

magoid I work for this flatbed company. We do it all the time. It’s just poor securement that causes it to shift like that

@stephenroberts4895
@stephenroberts4895 4 года назад
A good flatbeder will check load securement no matter how short or tall the load is. From what I remember about Melton’s policy is that a driver must check load securement every 2-3 hours (unless that’s changed). It would appear this particular driver got lazy and did not pull the tarps back to check securement.
@stephenroberts4895
@stephenroberts4895 4 года назад
Forgot to add that as long as the load is within 13’6” overall height and 8’6” width then it’s okay, as long as there is proper load securement for the weight.
@rdukes5779
