Here’s a real kicker: Not too many people realize this song is actually about the composer telling his about-to-be born baby, “It’s time to vacate the premises, Kiddo!”, i.e., it’s time to be born and come into the world. The singer/songwriter said it took years before a fan, I believe a girl from the Midwest, called him up and said she had figured out the intended meaning behind the song. I think his imagery was so strong, people ended up taking it literally. I mean, let’s face it, it really is a great bar song. I recommend, given this, going back and listening to it again. The song becomes amazingly rich in imagery.

When the dayshift is closing and lights are going off, this beautiful version and the original version are played back to back, as I am coming in to be the only employee for the night. This version is my favourite. I do not mind being 100% alone and working all night when I have such a beautiful voice to usher me into my shift of darkness.

That was really nice. I like how the lead’s voice maintains a broad tone as opposed to thinning out. She always has that vocal quality, but it’s highlighted by this song. I liked it better than the original.
