Kira Municipality MP and shadow finance Minister Semujju Nganda has voiced his support for Uganda’s Gen Zs who are behind the 23rd July protests that are slated to be staged across the country tomorrow with much of the same being epi-centered at Parliament. Speaking at FDC Katonga Road offices this Monday where hundreds of party leaders converged to listen to the findings and outcomes of the countrywide consultations by Dr. Kizza Besigye, Semujju Nganda said the organizers were right to be angry at existence of corruption at Parliament where he said he will be joining to equally register his displeasure at even broader corruption which he said is merely being symptomized by what has been happening at Parliament.
Nganda went on to advise that organizers should consider broadening the war against corruption because what they believe is happening at Parliament is merely a tip of the iceberg. Nganda said there is much more corruption elsewhere that can ever be permitted at Parliament. He made reference to many curious deals involving hundreds of billions of shillings which he said have all been authored by the President and not Parliament.
He made it clear that by concentrating on Parliament, the 23rd July protest organizers lose sight of the bigger picture and broader war against corruption. He said the planned protests should be enlarged to include State House Entebbe to be one of the many places that have to be raided. Nganda asserted that he would be more enthusiastic and energized towards the whole thing if the Tuesday protest organizers had prioritized raiding State House Entebbe ahead of any other power centers. That once you put right what goes on in State House, the rest of the institutions will merely fall into place.
Nganda said that targeting just Parliament is indicative that the organizers don’t fully understand the magnitude of the problem. He likened the Museveni-led Uganda to a banana plant which has been infected by the banana wilt and the whole of it requires uprooting as opposed to just targeting the leaf. He said any anti-corruption campaign that doesn’t primarily target Gen Museveni would merely be deceptive if not diversionary.
Nganda listed several transgressions over which he said Gen Museveni ought to be targeted for orchestrating grand corruption in Uganda. He enumerated these to include the secretive programs under 2800 students are annually sponsored to exclusively access very good education; having a Police Force commanded by officers from largely the same region; paying out Shs723bn to COVID vaccines promoter Mathias Magoola; Shs476bn to Pinetti for Lubowa Specialized hospital which has since become a white elephant project; Shs553bn to Atiak Sugar; Shs105bn to Odrek Rwabwogo and Shs120bn to Prof Florence Muranga.
Semujju Nganda also disputed Shs312bn that has so far been sunk and invested into Kira Motors to enable them make available only 20 buses in the last 5 years and the Shs248bn (off the Shs1.2trn reparation money) that was last year paid to the DRC government to atone the damage resulting from plunder that was committed by individual Ugandan military officers during the anti-Desire Laurent Kabila wars of the late 1990s. The same Katonga gathering was addressed by FDC Agago district Chairman Kenneth Opoka who castigated POA and other Najjanankumbi leaders for trivializing FDC into a party that uses money, free food and booze to lure Ugandans into attending their rallies in Kasese, Mbale etc.
