Such a bummer that conservatives and main stream liberals painted this guy as a some kind of extremist. He literally just talks common sense. Props to Theo for interviewing him.
Basically all politics in the us is centre-right or far right, compared to the rest of the western world. The power of media companies for decades coupled with the removal of the Fairness Doctrine has allowed right-wing media to paint anything not them as super scary and radical. In reality, the Democratic party is more like the old Republican Party used to be when they were progressive.
Anyone with a brain knows how badly he would fuck up the economy with his capital gains and income tax proposals. He would destroy retirements and make day-to-day living far more difficult ESPECIALLY post covid... this really isnt very difficult to understand.
Theo discussing our broken healthcare system with Bernie on his podcast is *_INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT._* He asked Bernie better questions than most credentialed journalists, including the specifics of cost, tax burden etc.
100%! We need to keep this conversation going about our terrible for-profit healthcare system. Mainstream news won’t talk about it, yet we have to bear the burden of going into bankruptcy possibly just to live if we get cancer. Fuck that. Thank you Theo for having Bernie on your show 🙏🏽
Theo, I’m a big politics nerd. I grew up in a house with elected officials for parents. I’ve sat through more political interviews, media training sessions, and debates than you can imagine. You asked some of the best questions in the most concise ways of any interviewer I’ve ever heard, and it elicited some of the best responses from Bernie. This was, I think, one of the best pieces of political content to show to an audience that isn’t explicitly interested in politics to help them digest a very broad and deep subject. Great job, you should be proud. This is meaningful work.
Conservative here. This was fantastic. I do not agree with some of the things Bernie suggests we should do, however, to hear him discuss things like his healthcare plan (AND the "why" behind it) with Theo's potentially unintentional humor was extremely educational/helpful. Fox would never give him a platform to at least explain himself without making him look stupid, CNN would not give him a platform to at least explain himself without making those who oppose him look stupid. My respect for Bernie went up a little bit. Hate to say it, but he sounds much more intelligent and level-headed than many of the folks talking on both sides of the aisle right now.
he said biden did a great job and kamala has to win to continue it....i dont think he is in touch with reality to any degree at all to make any level headed points at all when he says something like that
Ultimately you’re being lied to about healthcare. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many countries with universal healthcare and they think our system is insane. I’ve been confused how Trump is the right’s “outsider” when he’s a billionaire, a billionaire will never be a political outsider, they’ve been playing politics their whole life. One good billionaire has been Cuban who started a pharmacy company that cuts out the middle man and the drugs are so much cheaper.
Bernie, if nothing else, speaks more coherently, sanely, and in a more informative way than Biden and Trump combined. Honestly throw Kamala in there too, he's such a phenomenal speaker
@@fisharepeopletoo9653 Also he's possibly the only one that no one on either side can argue that he doesn't have anything but the good of the people in his heart. There is no underlying desire to become rich, connected and/or powerful. His integrity is undeniable.

Yoooooooooo! Theo has Bernie Sanders on and is actually having a mature discussion about social issues with him and its actually a SOLID interview? This is absolutely WILD.
I didn't know Theo was about transparency in healthcare and healthcare costs. That has been Bernie Sanders' wheelhouse for DECADES. Y'all gotta watch Bernie Sanders' speeches on healthcare in the 1990s!!! Go on C-Span, they're in the archive! Bernie has been consistent on this issue since the beginning!
Whenever I listen to Bernie, I'm struck by how refreshing it is to hear an American politician actually ANSWER the question that was asked of them...not just work their way back to whatever point they wanted to make. If you're wondering if there are any politicians who fight for us, not just their own interests or greed, here he is.
Bernie is a textbook definition of swamp creature and insider trading. He’s been in federal politics since 1990. He is a puppet of fake realism like the rest of them, absolute garbage
I think that’s why young people liked him. People eventually get worn down and come to accept the bullshitting and corruption. I mean look at the Trump Biden debate. These are supposed to be our best presidential candidates and they were lying and dodging questions non stop.
Imo Joe’s r more serious w ppl like this and this r still a little silly and hey doesn’t dig into certain topics as much w political ppl from what im assuming stems from less knowledge than joe on these things
The reason Bernie is this articulate at his old age is because he is literally speaking about his life long passion. Truly a man of the people. He wants to radically help as many people as he possibly can and some people hate him for it.
Some people only see color, and just cause he's blue they don't trust him or his policies. He's everything the average man could want policy-wise for their country
Exactly. That’s the reason why Biden’s brain is unravelling it’s nothing but talking points, he doesn’t really feel or care about any of the things he says.

I find it amazing that Bernie Sanders is painted as a radical character. He's just a sensible, peagmatic person on the side of the everyday person. What's really interesting is seeing Theo rationalising his thinking, and accepting alternative ideas without being defensive or partisan, and specifically he is absolutely willing to make himself look dumb (he is most definitely not), but he isn't afraid of saying he doesn't understand something and asking a "daft lad" question. We should all be a bit more like this. Great interview.
Agreed, this is absolutely one of Theo's most admirable superpowers: being unafraid to look uninformed. He asks wonderful questions and actually opens his mind to accept an answer he does not expect.
I find it so fascinating that so many people think that Theo is smart. He is obviously dumb. Be he makes the most out of it, and it is exactly what makes his interviews so interesting. Because he asks the dumb questions; often questions nobody would even think about, and that brings the conversations to unique and interesting places.
@@9xqspx6 yes that’s how it works - dumb people ask smart questions. He might not be knowledgeable but the questions he asks and the way he listens and joins ideas with each other is very intelligent.

The only thing I genuinely cannot get past. He said he ran against the establishment. Then he said trump does his own thing no script. So... Trump is running against the same establishment that kept him out of the primaries. Also its so obvious that the people he supports are in place because of the establishment. So how can he be pro Joe Biden, Kamala etc if he KNOWS they're controlled by the establishment.
Never listened to Bernie Sanders through a whole interview before, realized he is not who the mainstream media has made him out to be. I also realized Theo Von is the best thing to happen to media and everyone should be listening to these podcasts.
Literally sitting down to listen to him now for a very similar reason. Though in my case, my lens is colored by what Styxhexenhammer has said about Sanders and not the MSM. But still, it's always better to hear from the horse's mouth than from a game of telephone.
"Socialism Evil Bernie is Scary" The government is a form of Socialism if it works for the ppl. Schools, roads, etc... He was our guy and the DNC stole the nomination. It's whatever at this point but I think our country would be in a much better place if they hadn't.
He said this during a debate in 2019. Rep. Tim Ryan tried to argue the contents of a proposed bill, interrupting Sanders by saying, "You don't know that". Sanders replied "I DO know that because I wrote the damn bill" and continued answering the question. Classic.

When Bernie said the stress is what kills us faster.. it hit me right in the heart. At 19 during the pandemic I got discharged from the hospital after a su*cide attempt. I went back home with a bill of $9,000. I remember looking at it and crying, and just wishing the paramedics didn't find me. I still live every day having no idea how I'll dig myself out of this hole. This country needs change.
As a European, this is so crazy, that it is hard to believe. This is what I pay as a worker for 2 years of health insurance which covers everything imaginable. When I am jobless, I have the exact same insurance, but I pay nothing.
I'm so glad they found you, but I wish things were better for you leading up to what had happened. That is truly heartbreaking. It's like we are being punished for having mental illness or needing help, which discourages people from getting any help at all.
Don't pay a single red cent. I had an appendectomy around 2022 and it was 10k. I never paid anything at all. Eventually they'll stop sending bills. Dude’s been a teacher, psychiatric aide, carpenter, among several other jobs. He grew up lower class in Brooklyn, where he was part of his school fundraisers for Korean war orphans and others in the area while in high school. Joined many anti-segregation events as a member of the Congress of Racial Equality in college and fought for the civil rights movement. The protests that he organized, led, and was part of are directly responsible for the University of Chicago ending student segregation. He was AT MLK’s “I have a dream” speech in Washington, later that summer he was fined for resisting arrest at a Chicago demonstration against public school segregation. This is all still in college. He has been staunchly anti-war going back to pre-Vietnam. Despite this, he hs always pushed for increased veterans’ protections and rights to benefits. He has been fighting for the same basic rights of equality, healthcare, and education for longer than all of you have been alive. Probably before many of your parents were alive. And he’s never been afraid to walk across the aisle and pass bipartisan bills when agreements can be reached. Idgaf what jobs he’s had, because he’s been doing everything in his power to fight for those in need since literal childhood. Yes he could lug a tank around, but that would take from his supply for the alloted time. He couldn't participate in anything, he was literally locked by oxygen chain to his bed hoping he had enough air. We gathered around him and supported him as much as we could. He suffered this way for many years and it more than pisses you off. He had to allocate his oxygen and someday use less and be miserable to make sure he had enough to make it until the next delivery. I'm currently battling with cancer, next week starts my final round of chemo, and my god are the bills tall. I'm terrified I won't be able to pay them for 20 years. I get so jealous of other countries Healthcare systems.
I am so sorry and disgusted to hear what you are going through, which is affecting 90 % of Americans. I could not afford insurance through my job which pays crap so thank you President Obama for the marketplace. However that needs to be cleaned up. President Harris, push for healthcare for all and a minimum wage that gets increased every year starting at $15 an hour
Theo is probably the most open minded person in podcasting, I love how open he is to listening and learning new things. A lot of us would be much better humans if we took a page from Theo!
Holy crap DID NOT expect Bernie Sanders on Theo Von. Bernie is literally my political hero. Found him when I was about 22. He shaped my political ideology.
If lots of people all think the same thing , have a simplistic understanding of a complicated world. And blame all of their problems on others. I start to get suspicious of their thinking process. Easy answers and asserting that you are right before knowing the first thing about our system seems like a popular trend.
@@Yor_gamma_ix_bae You're just a sheep of the other herd bud, just because a lot of people think one way then you decide to automatically think the other way it's exactly the same thing lol
I really enjoyed this conversation. Theo and Bernie are both very sharp, good dialogue going back and forth and asking questions that I myself wondered. Thank you gents 🙏
In 2016 and 2020 I voted for Bernie, and as country we dropped the ball, we had a chance to have this man as our president. He really is for the people
He’s so for the people he’s still affiliated with the democrat party. Give me a friggin break. Only thing the democrat party wants is more power over the electorate. So they just immigrate more in paid by us tax payers.
Bernie is a coward. He bent the knee to the establishment. Like a good little boy he got in line. President Trump however didn't and had to knock out 16 establishment Republicans. Bernie is a fraud.
My heart aches at the thought that this man will never be president. Imagine what this country would be if we had people like Bernie in office for the next 10-15 years to come. A true man of the people ❤
@@chingronPublic sentiment seems to be largely positive, so I'm not sure where you picked up that everyone figured out that he's a fraud. If he is a fraud, the public doesn't seem to know this (including me), so I'd love to know more about how you came to the conclusion that Bernie Sanders is a fraud. Thanks in advance for the information and sources!
I love how Theo can make watching Bernie and Trump interviews back to back just an excellent experience regardless of how you vote. Theo keep interviewing EVERYONE! You rock
@@LukeMcGuireoides Trump made small talk and was humble - Bernie was a condescending asshole who scoffed at the small talk and gaslit Theo on Biden doing a "good job".
@@LukeMcGuireoides While I don't necessarily disagree, I think the actually interesting and well put point op is making is that despite what both guests said in the podcast, the host and program were able to make both interviews a worthwhile and enjoyable watch to the viewer no matter where they stand. Lots of other outlets struggle to do this and I think that's really important for exposure. -- despite how I've personally regarded Theo a bit more negatively previously, it's definitely made me hold him to a higher regard. But yeah in terms of substance of what was actually talked about, two completely different interviews, in my personal opinion I saw one cutting deep into hard but important topics to the American people and another not getting much past the word great. But the point is that's totally fine, it helps reach people where they are at, guest or viewer.
@@LukeMcGuireoidesI think they both did a little of each. It's politics, you have to criticize your opponents, especially if you're actively campaigning.
I’m not a Bernie fan or a democrat. With that said, I very much enjoyed this conversation! It was so refreshing to listen to and absorb the thoughts and ideas of this conversation. Well done to all involved. And, thank you Senator Sanders for being willing to sit down with a normal dude, and speak candidly about a wide range of topic’s.
Why are you not a Bernie fan. What did he say here that you disagreed with? Do you think billionaires should be able to endlessly donate? You think insurance companies should keep scamming the US population? I just don't by people who oppose bernies politics. Like what in the world do you disagree with about his politics aside from the Communinst socialist bullshit that conservative media muddies the water with?
Same over here! My parents demonized him for me when he was running for president, so I hated him, but after having blocked my parents and getting to form my own opinions, I may not agree with him 100%, but he makes a lot of great points. I really appreciated this interview cause when politics interfere with interviews, politicians come at each other's throats, and then everyone looks bad. This was really humanizing.
It's wild to see interviews with people that are miles apart on the US political spectrum, yet they're both treated with the same great respect. The interviewees treated Theo with great respect, too. This is what I want to see more of. I don't have to agree with a politician's platform to be willing to give them a chance to speak. Trump and Sanders both took cutesy little digs at other politicians, but there was no vitriol. I love it. Thanks, Theo!
@@the_italianwannabeRegarding healthcare, he is just right. The opposition is motivated by profits, including the politicians who are all bought. Bernie's motivation is seeing people have better healthcare coverage at a reasonable price.
I love how personable and articulate Bernie is in this! Every single interview with him, he breaks down difficult ideas and issues, making them accessible to everyday people in plain language. A truly gifted politician and speaker.
Bernie and Trump are more aligned on the most crucial topics than Bernie is with the Democrat party, the party that blatantly (and probably unconstitutionally) screwed him out of the Presidential nomination not once, BUT TWICE!! And Bernie still throws his support behind them, we all need to swallow our pride (Trump voters included) and come together to compromise on critical issues that actually directly affect our health and safety. RFK did it and was welcomed with love and respect. People just want happiness, health, and success for our nation.
Congratulations theo, i dont think ive ever seen you so engaged - excellent job - very effective - you are a natural at straight talking politics - do much more - you will have an impact
