Absolutely. Also think about how the drivers of those days experienced multiple engine configurations. For example in 10 years, Senna drove every imaginable popular engine configuration used in Formula 1...from the Toleman with a Hart inline-four, V6 turbo from 1985-1988, normally aspirated V10 in 1989 and '90, to the V12 in '91 and '92, and then for one year, the V8 Cosworth in '93. Flash forward to today...only 8 of the 21 drivers to start a Grand Prix in 2020 have contested an actual Formula 1 race in anything other than a Turbo-Hybrid-V6 (that's counting Hulkenberg). Furthermore, only Kimi and Alonso (including him as he'll be back next year) have raced a V10 car. As it stands, if I'm right, it looks like these turbo hybrid V6's will be used through 2024? Great...

Even better than the battle on track has to be Murray Walker’s commentary. I had forgotten just how entertaining it made the racing (even at times when not much was going on). “Down the straight, 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th, 5th to 6th up to 310kph” No one can replace him, such a passion for the sport!

he kinda was. On one hand he was a brilliant driver, but he was sometimes also dumb as a rock. There was one time in canada (dont know the year) where he was far a head and he was driving slowly on his last lap and waving to the crowd. But then he drove a little too slow and the engine stalled, resulting in a dnf instead of a win.

@@scarsurfing the Williams was head and shoulders above the Mclaren all season, Prost tested the 92 car and wanted to use that instead of the fw15c, but Patrick Head insisted on using the new car because its active system offered more potential than the reactive system on the 14b. Prost has said in many interviews the 93 season was his most difficult and thought it would have been easier in the 92 car. The Mclaren wasn't on level terms with Williams from mid 91 until 1998 when Williams lost the Renault engines. The 91 Williams was better than the Mclaren but suffered with reliability issues in the first half of the season.

@TheWPhilosopher 2 года назад
Not really. If you recall I think there was a similar situation lap two where Senna got by but was immediately retaken as he couldn't hold on to the corner. I think Senna was trying too hard to overcome the performance gap of the cars and while Mansell was being smoother for the turn and braking with more than enough time so probably a but early Senna was going to try late and being behind Mansell he was caught out but he was never in the place to try that out braking as Mansell was in middle of the track and Senna wasn't either side so he shouldn't have tried it.
@FabianoOFaria
@FabianoOFaria 10 месяцев назад
My opinion is similar to yours. It's a combination of factors. Mansel is in the middle of the track. As Senna comes to the limit, he expects Mansel to define a different tangency trajectory. So surprised he takes microseconds to define what to do. he brakes hard and the car goes sideways, but he doesn't avoid the accident.
