Sennek represented Belgium at the first Semi-Final of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with the song A Matter Of Time. Read more about Sennek here: spott.tv/topic/sennek/PARTY_R...
The staging for this was completely wrong. Should have been on the main stage with dim lighting to capture that bondesque feeling. The catwalk stage with a flag waving crowd was what killed it off.
I also think the wide shots didn't help much. The first shot of the first chorus and the second bridge with all those flags. Didn't really like the long shots but the sorter were amazing (like 1.28 for a more intense feeling.. Should have kept the lights more dimmed and and darker, and instead put her in a box with just rhe edges if white light. Simple but yet more something you could remeber then someone walking on the catwalk. Probably?
or she probably had to be lesbian or at least belong to LGBT in order to get Europeans' votes. NO! Some of us prefer to choose according to the music and not to the genre
georgepapRFTW come on there is ONLY 1 song with lgbt community thingy. And if she where lesbian she still wouldnt get votes because it wouldnt make any sense with the story behind the song. Honestly its low to talk about things you dont understand of.
She would’ve made it to the final if it wasn’t for the staging. Her voice was good, but she was just walking up and down during the performance. Whoever was in charge of it certainly made a bad job that cost her a spot in the grand final
@@lukasdkj5560 Complete mismatch with the energy of the song. They should've emulated the aesthetic of the music video - dark, moody, mysterious, almost pretentious. Instead they flooded the stage with lights and had her run around the audience like she was at an outdoor music festival. They had no idea what to do with her facial expressions, choreo, hand actions, movement around the stage, hell even the dress wasn't a good choice. No props, no dancers, nothing on the main stage, there's just a bit of backup vocals that are impossible to hear - pretty much nothing to support her. It's fascinating how all the creative direction in the music video and song composition absolutely vanished for the actual competition. This would've easily qualified in Semi 2 but even then it's just shocking that they didn't even make any effort.
@@rafadydkiemmacha7543 well, yes, it does, but remember, the songs of the 1st semi final had much better placements in the final and much more likes than songs of the 2nd. Which means the 1st was much stronger. And this song nearly qualified with that terrible performance in such a tough semi. So, this would have definitely qualified in semi final 2, and with a good performance, could easily place top 10
@@lunathewolf4697 I'm from Greece and l am so upset that Belgium and Greece didn't come through ,but Lithuania and Albania did. I think that the staging didn't work out for both countries, but the thing is that also the hosts were terrible in Portugal, we requested 5 different projects and they didnt do any of them. Also when the juries were voting for Greece , the Portugal technicians pressed the button with fireworks on the wrong time and the singer almost got injured. We requested a replay of the performance but they didnt do it. My point is that at the end of the day a good song is a good song, and I wouldn't download to listen the song of Lithuania,Ireland or Albania.
Belgium and Greece were robbed af. All of the countries that won the spot in the final deserved it, but I thought that Belgium would get one of them easily... Belgium is my fav country in Eurovision. So sad to see her go. What makes me mad is that some songs will qualify in the second semifinal without deserving it because of how low the level is.
If they had just done Blanche 2.0 staging with amazing lighting, she'd feel way more on her place: she would've EASILY qualified, as her vocals would've probably stood out more. Btw perhaps this wasn't her best performance, but search her rendition on Tomorrow Never Dies, she's beyond amazing on that one.
"next country qualifying is Finland!" Belgians: "wow they are going to call us last again😂😂" "The tenth country to qualify is....." Belgians: *already celebrating* "Ireland!!" Belgians: *all dying inside*
Sabrina Jaine I agree. She just walked around the stage and it didn't really look planned. Her vocals were poor in this performance too. Nevertheless, it's a great song.
The song itself was okay in my opinion, but what annoys me more is that they likely have scored a lot of points because of the gay dancing couple. Don't get me wrong, I'm gay myself, but the crowd's reaction (which was like 80% dudes, most of them prob gay if you saw the audience camera moments) towards that moment kinda gave it away. I'm not annoyed Ireland used a gay theme, I'm annoyed that the gay audience might have given them points exactly for that alone.
Ireland, albania and Litaunhia could change with Belarus, greece, Belgium and Macedonia or Croatia i am chocked because bokmakers Said that Greece and Belgium was favorites. Lithaunia had a amazing Stage too / Wish me Good luck guys from Sweden
It isn qualified because its a singing nose.A big nose is singing.....terrible snort and voice. Its the cause.I explained it to you. I am glad that we will not see this big nose in final.
This was also my second favourite in the entire competition going into tonight. The staging was the problem, Sennek’s song needed the support of LED background or even something as dramatic like her breaking through glass or something along those lines. Overall still my second favourite song but as a whole Albania took it’s spot (on my list).
Musa Umut Akdeniz Dogan Before the parties it was my number one, then it has fallen a few places but still it was in my top 5. Deserved the final instead of Israel or Austria
I read a little about this singer, she actually sings songs from 007, i found a version of "tomorrow never dies" search for "Tomorrow never dies by Lola & Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra Dirk Brossé)"
Surprisingly, Belgium was supposed to make it to the finals and settle there high, but fate probably wanted otherwise. This is a real song with a real singer, who really knows how to sing in an intriguing and interesting way, a good singer, a huge loss to Europe.
Yes staging and clothing were the problem, it's a good song and she had better vocals than halve of the songs that are in the finals... Too bad Israël and Lithuania got in the finals instead of her and Greece...
eviken1982 yeah Ireland too, the song was really boring... but I thought Lithuania was worse than Ireland tbh, and I said Israël because I was really disappointed by her :p
The staging had nice shots at the beginning and the end but the rest was just dull. Unfortunately. They should have had worked more with those dark shots.
The song is so underrated. Sounds like another bond's theme. So elegant and great produced masterpiece. Wish the best for the Sennek. She has her own style.
I'm so sad for Belgium It was really amazing perfomance, and this song will be in my heart forever. Thank you, Sennek, for great show From Russia with love c:
I am sure, if she was in the second semi finals, she would've made it to teh finals, the first semi finals was stacked with good performances and it had 1 more country in it as well (19 vs 18 in the 2nd) Its a shame, its a nice song and she performed it perfectly. Undeserved loss.
I’m afraid Europe didn’t get this. This song has very dark, pessimistic and abstract lyrics. I think the staging was suitable for the song. In the beginning she is trying to break free of the dark, while singing about the way we ignore problems (the unspoken). If we won’t deal with our problems, then hell breaks luce - as she sings in the chorus. But we keep ignoring all bad things (we keep running) and that is why she turns her back to the camera and in the end we are still not able to say the things we need to say in order to break taboos, as she gets trapped by the darkness. I love this performance, very artistic and original with an important meassage about dealing with dark and ugly problems, which is now more relevant than ever (refugee crisis, Trump, Brexit, Russian military actions etc.). Thank you, Laura - you sadly didn’t make it to the final, but you are a true artist and a huge inspiration❤️🇧🇪 I’m afraid Europe like chicken noises more than art...
Good analysis, you have only erred in the topics that interest and those that do not. Just win all those who talk about politically correct, feminism, LGBTI lobys, refugees (see France), etc. Trump, Russia and seeing reality is politically incorrect today.
Pure perfection, great song and flawless performance, sophisticated and subtle staging. Unfortunately juries are dazzled by fireworks and don't appreciate true and fine art, so instead pick Cirque du Soleil or mediocre ballad acts. Sennek is amazing we are all very proud of her. Well done!!
she cannot. the rules say that the song has to be released after september 1 of the year before the contest, and that automatically disqualifies this song.
--> Song : Absolutely amazing, pure art, Check. --> Vocals : ON POINT, Check. --> Attitude : She enjoyed her performance and shared it with the audience, Check. --> Staging : Fits the song, mysterious and intimate, Check. She had the full package and was a fan favorite, so the only explainations I found was the running order, and those juries, unable to recognize real art, and who voted for a flat song with a trumpet instead of this wonderful song. This is a shame and makes absolutely no sense, how can a music expert cannot put this in their top 10 and elevate it ?! HOW ?! I just don't get it. It totally blows my mind. I would have sent all my votes to her if I could.
Arthur Glenet I think being so early in the running order killed it especially being amongst other strong songs but then again , how did Albania qualify
+Bon Bon Buneary because he deserved to qualify look laura was amazing but not as strong as eugent ok don't blame albania for them not qualifying it was a really tough semi final
I like to read this comments knowing i'm not alone and feeling the same frustrations!! Sennek, you're a beautiful girl and our country is proud of you!
Agreed, it's a great song and she performed it well, plus I thought the staging was unique and effective, first with the lighting then with the audience in the forefront.
I know right? Lithuania's was boring and the whole bit of her singing to her real life partner doesn't interest anyone but her and her partner, talk about cheesy. This song was way more interesting, still, it's Eurovision and they go for gimmicks and cheese and staging not necessarily a good song.
When? When would Belgium win again? Eurovision Contest 2020 Brussels maybe. Belgium has been very strong since 2014. I could not believe my eyes when I heard that Ireland was allowed to go to the Final. How could they take this Belgium away from you. At certain moments her pitch might be a little too low, I must admit that. But the text is so beautiful.
Like I mentioned on another post, my thought is that the gay audience scored Ireland higher because of the gay dancing couple. Don't get me wrong, I'm gay myself but I'm annoyed on how the audience reacted the exact moment the dancers appeared, I am not annoyed at Ireland's choice of using gay dancers. And if you remember the camera moments showing the audience, like 80% were dudes and many seemed to be gay (atleast in my opinion).
Great, Classy song. Amazing, Competent Performer Mysterious, Atmospheric Staging How Could This Not Qualify??!! SENNEK You Are Owed A Spot In The Final
THE GLADIATORS I don't understand. I just don't understand. None of this makes any sense. I want to make sure this was 11th and Ireland was 10th, anything more far apart and... I don't know how...
She got my 5 votes, but didn't help, people are just not subtle enough to enjoy such delicate song, Sennek was pure perfection, I want to see the votes when they are revealed after the finals, what happened here. She was fabulous. Xx from Israel.
Too good for Eurovision. Bless her, she must have been so stressed! Her hands are so shaky. She was robbed, this definitely deserved a top 5 position in the final
I know it's been a long, but I still listen to this song. The crying at the end shows how amazing is she. I hope to see her in a year. :) Love from Poland. :)
