In this video I finally tried out the Sennelier Abstract Matt Acrylics. You will see me swatch them out, do some color mixing with them and finally do a painting with them. The painting part of the video is high speed.

Great review of those paints. When you’d mix a colour I’d think “ooh, please add some white to that so we can see what it looks like” and you did, lol. Very satisfying! Thank you!

Glad you enjoyed the paints! I like them and yes they are thick. I like the vibrancy. Your painting turned out lovely. The cost for the Sennelier is really affordable.

Thank you! Yes, the price was very reasonable. What I need to do is a video where I do some experimenting with all these different acrylics side-by-side. So far I think the Utrecht is the most vibrant but I need to put them side-by-side to tell for sure. I should do some tests with the acrylics and also some tests with the different brands of Gouache. It’s so hard to tell unless you actually see them side-by-side.

Thank you for a wonderful video. I believe the pouch design is for better control while you squeeze directly from the pouch when you use it with the tips (sold separately) to add 3D effects to your art. I hope you will give these paints a second chance.

Hi Star gazer, Thanks for your comment. It’s interesting that it would be for better control because my personal experience was that I had much less control when trying to squeeze the cumbersome and floppy pouch than I do when squeezing paint from a Liquitex style bottle or a tube. Other than the pouch I did enjoy the paints though.

The Abstract paint is also available in a 3D liner bottle (about the size of a large paint pen) that can be refilled with the pouch. Since the pouch doesn't allow air bubbles, I find I don't get the tiny explosions and have better line control. I apologize for not specifying line control in my previous comment. A year later seeing this. I just ordered the matte. I understand these are a heavy body. I don't use acrylics that much, but I already have a few of the Sennelier abstract and I wanted to try their flat. I also ordered an acrylic retarder so they stay workable a bit longer (read that these dry pretty fast??) I've used the Turner acrylic gouache and it dries so fast, I can only use it as an underpainting. Love your painting! Thanks!

I really do enjoy them, but they are very heavy body. Are the regular Sennelier abstract one’s shiny or satin? I used to always keep my acrylics on a wet palette and work off of that so they wouldn’t dry out fast. I do the same with acrylic gouache. The smell of the sponge started to bother me last year so now I just take an enamel butcher tray palette and line it with dampened blue shop towels. I use a couple of layers of the blue paper towels and top it off with grease proof deli paper. Then I apply my paints to that. I give them an occasional spritz with water and they last really well without drying out. I cover the tray loosely with a plastic lid from something else if I’m going to leave the overnight and they stay fresh for days.

Those scrapers look so fun. I was thinking where did the fallen - over gate come from, then I realised the scrape marks made it look like a gate. Didn't mind the ac at all. Such a pretty painting Linda. 😊

I’m really glad that you found it helpful. I filmed it back in May so I was trying to remember if there was enough info in it for you to make a decision. As I mentioned in the video I really did like the paint a lot but I just don’t think I would buy it again because the packaging is a nuisance to deal with.
