You know, that's real good point. Even for the short time his new show was on the air he had a lot of wrestlers on. He definitely deserves to go in and his name is never brought up.
Especially since he was always cool with letting them talk in kayfabe. Arsenio was a great mark for the sport. Mean that in a positive way. His show helped sell those house shows at the Sports Arena just as much as SuperStars of Wrestling or Wrestling Challenge did.
Got to meet her as a kid when she wrestled. She was standing in the back before her match and bunch of us kids spotted her and she never broke character. She gave us a bunch of mean looks and wouldn't talk to us basically ignoring us. We stayed in that back area after the match and she came back thru there and smiled at us then winked and asked us were we having fun, then told us to come back after it was over and she would take a few pictures with us and sure enough she kept her word and took a few pics before she left!
We use to see Zeus in the Fox Hills Mall all the time. We would yell Zeus! He would wave and look for you (because sometimes you were on another floor) just to add, how are you doing.
@@carlosgarcia5458 I know what you mean I mean as a character I hated her but she was oddly sexy ...its mainly because I remembered how she looked before the make up....but it was only when I grew older that I appreciated how amazing she was.
@@livingforever6157 we won't know until somebody commits to keyfabe. I mean, whoever does it will get keyfabe angry when people shout at him "it's feke!"
@@anastasiosgkotzamanis5277 even if they do "commit to it" it won't matter because we all do know it's fake. ;) So everything just looks like some cheap storyline build up.
Wrestlers back then also wrestled in the days when every dip shit didnt up bring up past eras just to shit on now wrestlers in every comment section just to get likes & feel cool Zeus had no charisma & couldn't wrestle put him in this era & he would be no different than ryback & worst than bruan
@@gustavojackson6864 Zeus had charisma and presence, he just couldn't wrestle. For a guy who said he ran a 4.7 40 in college, he had no quick twitch ability at all. He was so awkward in the ring. Its a shame. If he had the wrestling ability of Hogan(which isn't saying much) he may have had a longer career.
@@gustavojackson6864 If WWE today didn't suck so much ass we wouldn't have to be looking back so fondly on even someone like Zeus, LOL. Yeah he wasn't exactly a legend, but he was part of a MUCH better product.
Being a 9 year old kid, my parents were so awesome they would always let me stay up to watch Arsenio when it came on from 11pm to 12am. I will never forget watching this on TV. What a great time to be a kid!!!!
Because when you look back, you can hand-pick only the best ones to focus on. There were a LOT of duds back then as well. The real question is where are the few greats that should be showing up these days. Rock and Austin had it. You could make an argument for Cena too even though I'm not a fan. Taker of course but he was born of that old era. So who will the fans be looking back at from the current era and saying "boy things were great back then. I wish we had guys/gals like....". I can't think of any names to put in that blank.
Because they worked different promotions to learn and understand their craft instead of just working in the WWE where your entire character, promo and entire match are written out for you.
your correct but Chyna took it to the next level. She could press women and small men. Sherri Martel or Moolah could not do that. Chyna is number 1. Sherri was a better actress but had a lot of years of experience as a wrestler before she went to the wwf
She was the greatest woman, period, in wrestling HISTORY. She could do it all and was always willing to do whatever was asked of her (seriously, they put her in some angles/situations that made her look utterly foolish and took it all like a champ!). I even loved her face run as Harlem Heat's manager; she could be a vamp, goofball, or a badass and was believable in EVERYTHING she did! What a talent! RIP
I booed the hell out of her when I was a kid. As I grew up, I came to appreciate and respect her for how good she really was. R.I.P. Queen Sherri. You truly are among the greatest heel valet/manager in history.
i use to be in love with Sensational Sherri as a kid she was the first ride or die chick in wrestling took bumps many times from dude's in the ring she was a legend rip Sherri Martel
Yep, the perfect polar opposites. Elizabeth was the goody 2 shoes. Sherri was the type that would want u to pound her through the wall and beg for more.
Great upload. Those were the days. Still think Sherri is sexy with the face paint here. She isn't wrong when she says she has a body of a Greek goddess. 11/10 imo.
@@NemeanLion- I started watching in 1983 at 8 years old, within a year I knew it wasn't "legitimate". Half of the fun was watching for when they called moves, bladed, etc. But we played along! The bulk of the people in the crowd knew what was going on. By my teens I heard about Meltzer's Observer and subscribed to it and all I really "learned" was the inside jargon like kayfabe, etc. McMahon admitted to the NJ Athletic Commission that wrestling was a work but on TV they still played it full on kayfabe. By the Attitude era WWF started openly acknowledging stuff with innuendo & the RAW Magazine but slowly they started to drop any pretense outside of the actual shows on TV. Nowadays they barely even try on the shows. The shit since the pandemic has been awful with silly comedy and parody of the business. You CAN keep kayfabe on a program and outside of the ring again. Of course everyone will still now it's a work but the same was true in the 80s & 90s. Treat the business seriously and the fans will too...
It is what it missing in wrestling. Too many people talk too much about the art form and expose all the secrets. Kayfabe is what wrestling is in need off.
This was such a great ERA of the WWF. Sherri and Elizabeth really brought a true sense of lady-ness to wrestling, it was so wonderful to watch it as a little girl. They were never too much or over the top, but just enough drama and class. I so admired both of them! Then and now.
I recall watching a shoot interview with Sherri from the early 2000s (slightly before she passed away). She presented as one of the most kind, generous, and classy performers I've had the pleasure of watching. She put nearly everyone over and told some truly great stories. After literally being at the top of the industry for several decades, listening to how she ended up ODing at her Mom's house just brings me to tears...for me, it adds an additional level of tragedy when so many of wrestlers who've passed well before their time end up dying within miles of where they grew up.
The Attitude Era gets so much credit and worship, but this right here is the era of wrestling I like most. I love the gimmicks and the kayfabe. It was so fun to suspend belief and play along with it.
I had the sheer pleasure of meeting Sherri Martel at a "legends" event, just a few years before she passed away, and she still basically "glowed in the dark," just like this. RIP.
Love the part at 7:20 when Arsenio says "Constipated Sherri" and she seems to break character and gets a shocked look on her face. Small thing but kinda charming considering back then wrestlers rarely broke "kayfabe". And you have to hand it to Arsenio, not really the best interviewer and his jokes were lame but he usually had interesting guests (I mean, he interviewed Jason!).
@William Dupree or perhaps I just don't find him funny. Nothing to do with "frame of mind". I find most talk show hosts unfunny. Besides I gave him credit for having a good raport with his guest but overall his interviewing skills were weak and his joke were standard late night fare. Not my thing.
@@brandonhendrix7223 It's true that his interviewing skills were weak. I think what made his show popular was that it was raw and off the cuff unlike the other late night talk shows which added a sense of authenticity.
Hell Yeah she dug tha Bruthas👍 B4 she started powderin her 👃 she a lil more thickness 2 her. I cudve swore i seen her bend ova ova once w/no panties! Lol 😂 Tha Harlem Heat: Book n Stevie Ray prob ran a 🚅🚎 on Sheri sexy self n told em No Bone No Contract... NOW CAN DIG THAT, SUCKA🍻
The guy would sell tickets. I would've locked him up in a wrestling academy for two years before making a moving putting him out there as a wrestler. Even with experience you don't see much big guys wrestle well.
Tiny Lister was a heck of an actor. He stayed in character throughout his wrestling and this show. Amazing! Btw, I loved Sherri in the AWA and ECW more.
Yes! I've been waiting for someone to upload this to RU-vid for years. I use to have it on VHS myself but lost it through the years. Somebody told me that they went to a commercial break at the end there and when they came back Zeus was tearing up the drums but I never saw that myself. "I have a PHD in Hurtin' People" - LMAO!!!
A truly wonderful, talented and stunning woman. Been a fan since the 80's and that era has now lost one of it's greatest treasures. We fans who are still here know that you made our lives Sensational...and we'll never forget what you've done. RIP Sensational Queen
Sherri was ride or die. Like legit - a women's wrester's wrestler. Best performer - so much range - maybe the most, actually talented female performer ever. Not even joking.
its a shame she had so many demons. Apparently Sherri was a really sweet woman. There are tons of neat little stories about how nice she was to kids during these wrestling shows. I always like to see these older interviews with her, especially when she has to stay in character, because she was such an easy going and humorous person, that she always cracks and laughs temporarily and goes right back into character. But apparently she was also a really tough lady. May she Rest In Peace.
How Arsenio didnt get an emmy just for this alone.......blows my mind......to hold it together through all this.....he deserved one. They should have let Zeus talk like this in interviews for WWF TV instead of the three-five word things he would blurt out....this made him way more intimidating and scary on a real level. RIP Tiny Lister.....Zeus AND Deebo.....that is a helluva resume
richie bee Did you like your own comment? Or someone was coincidently watching this video and liked your comment? You're like Barry Harrowits who pads himself in the bank but instead of padding yourself in the back you like your own comment.
1:57 Arsenio: "And you're no longer wrestling?" Sherri: "Uhh....when I get the chance!" 11:22 Arsenio: "Do you have the wresting skills to handle a Hulk Hogan?"
