What happened to this channel man... Used to be so many videos uploaded regularly with fun thumbnails and loads of different, interesting topics. Now we've only had 4 "sensible transfers" video within a month and still no new video since this one has been uploaded 12 (!) days ago. And their thumbnails all look so bland and soulless. Every time i come to this channel now to see if theres a new video i get incredibly sad...
The athletic happened. Alex fired, replaced by someone bland. Colorful fun studio replaced with black and white one that looks like a bunker. Fun podcast replaced by a corporatey, generic, soulless one, which discusses questions such as “has Todd bohly overspent?”
Whoever comes in to replace Liverpool needs to recognise that aggressive pressing style we have now is how a lot of fans think we should play and probably want it to continue.
More importantly imo, it works. Would be one thing if the team was just passable but we are top of the league and thriving. Any change of system will basically have to be wildly successful immediately to seem like anything other than a blunder.
I get where you‘re coming from, but maybe that‘s kind of unrealistic. With De Zerbi maybe, but generally i like the Alonso shout a lot more and he doesn‘t exactly play aggressive pressing (although neither does Klopps current Liverpool anymore, at least not as much as formerly, a lot more possession). I just think whoever comes in deserves some time and a fair chance. When Kloppo came he wasn‘t immediatly winning everything and look where we‘re at now.
@@HereWealdwhat did Chelsea do with all the strikers they had in the last 7years? They destroyed all their careers. Morata, Higuain, Pato, Remy, Broja, Lukaku, Batshuayi, Jackson, Werner, even Havertz? I pity Osimhen if he ever signs for that useless club. His career will be over in one year
Man, the pick for a new #6 being "no-one, wait for an elite player to become available" really shows the difference between what Sensible Transfers used to be vs now. Before, Alex would've found a couple options around Europe using relevant underlying stats so Liverpool could find this mystery #6 before they're worth the £100m it'll take to buy them once they've gained the publicity. Maybe I'm just looking at this through rose-tinted glasses because that style of video is what got me into football stats and player recruitment using data, but its a bit of a shame that that kind of resource doesn't exist anymore (in video form at least).
Agreed. I don't like how a lot of their picks were already made players, and that's been the case in some of the other videos too. Like cmon, Olise, Raphinha, Bastoni and de Ligt? Sure, they're great players but are those really "sensible transfers" anymore if you only choose really expensive top players?
Nah I think it's a case of rose-tinted glasses. There are very few elite 6 options on the market right now even if you look at underlying stats. One they didn't mention though is Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Really good, the best pivot in La Liga after Tchouameni and has a 60M release clause.
"I think the fanbase would be miffed if it was just some young player" You don't know us at all. There is nothing better than a young player coming through and proving themselves. As a club and fanbase that is so much part of our identity. We're not Chelsea or Real Madrid.
Mate I’m a diehard Liverpool fan and if we replaced mo salah with a youngster I’d be furious, you can’t replace someone with that quality with a young player like doak who isn’t ready at all, we need to sign someone more experienced
There were so many groans when we didn't bring anyone to cover midfield for one year. Like, the prevailing opinion is that we missed out on 2 trophies the year before cause we never replaced Gini.
My exact reaction here. It's fun to see the discussion and all but a lot of the suggestions like buying an already established elite player just isn't our way for as long as I can remember. (That's why I don't think Mbappe is a right fit for the club regardless of price). Btw, I had a laugh when they recommended Solanke for Arsenal in another video. Sure he's in good form this season but he was nowhere good enough for Liverpool or any other top team. Reminds me of Ings when he first left Liverpool, but is Tifo recommending him now?
@@visweshrammohan2909he hasn’t been struggling for minutes at forest at all? He had a problem with injury and has been one of if not the best player for Côte d’Ivoire
@@FPLExpression It's not his natural role, it's true. But he's been sensational at it. At least 3rd best. Trent might become our 6 if Bradley keeps this up tbh.
Yeah but Liverpool are not chasing another midfielder lol so it does not matter. They have the best dm in years to come out injured but also have a beast CDM in Endo. Crazy good young talents. I think they need one more world class attacker and a Joel Matip replacement
This defensive mid debate is so lame. Mac Allister has been excellent in that role. Endo has been a great backup and bajcetic is also going to come through.
You have to take into account that MacAllister might not want to play that position for the rest of his career at Liverpool and it would be a blow if the club lost a player like him.
Bajcetic has also been injured for ages. There's no guarantee he will come back and hit the ground running like he did last season or hit his full potential
xabi alonso is the ideal replacement. maybe not in terms of tactics. but he already has a connection with the city and the fans and his football philosophy really aligned with liverpool. playing attractive football
In a lot of past interviews Xabi Alonso talks about being flexible and that tactics have to match the players you have so I actually think that Xabi is intelligent enough and flexible enough to adjust tactics for players. He isn't going to bench Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz and play Harvey Elliot because the player profile doesn't suit his preferred formation.... you work with the talent you have and try to get the best players on the field. Ange has the personality to match Jurgen.... like a big demonstrative papa figure, but I think he is too tactically rigid, as showcased by multiple games that he has lost in part because he was unwilling to change his game plan when he was clearly the second best team. Klopp sent a team onto the field multiple times this season that clearly is not able to control the game but he is able to make formation and personnel changes to win games.... Ange doesn't appear to have that in his locker.
Spot on--glad to see someone who seems to know what they're talking about! The Alonso thing is strange. Everyone describes his football as if he's been a manager for decades at multiple clubs and always plays the same style. Leverkusen is his first big job, he will have to consider the squad he has, the league he plays in and other factors when deciding on his style. The best managers make changes to their tactics constantly to get the most out of their players against a certain set of opponents. If Alonso is a good manager, he'd do the same.
@@RevRyan15He's also coached different systems in the past when he was in charge of academy teams. I'd bank on him elaborating on the style we already play with some of his own ideas (and he has some good ideas that would gives us more ways to be dangerous in the final third) instead of ripping everything up.
Nah Ange is doing exactly what Klopp did for his first two years as Liverpool manager. He's teaching the players his exact identity and that can only be learned through repetition. Ange is great and he would be my second choice behind Xabi. Nagelsmann is an acceptable choice. Other than them 3 i don't want anyone though.
Tifo irl would have had a full description of the situation at Crystal Palace, also a breakdown on oliver glasner tactics by now. Instead of these insipid podcasts.
As a Palace fan it’s weird to see how many good players we have despite how poor we’ve been this season. We’ve got 5 Champions League players and the rest are Championship players lol.
@@BenIrvine1999Palace is my second team after Liverpool. And if palace took the summer seriously and appointed a proper pogressive manager with a few promised additions, they could have had a legit go at the conference league 7th spot. All they needed was a RB ( Sugawara or Neco Williams), a LW (Jack Clarke, Omar Marmoush, Hudson-Odoi or Sulemana) and a Controller CM (Rio Hatate, Manu Kone or Le fee).
not quite a destroyer but bajcetic for the 6 role, and ben doak for salah's role, I think our academy is doing amazing work. quansah and connor bradley being examples of the quality of players we've got waiting in the wings
Id be suprised if Bowen doesnt come in when-if Salah leaves. Liverpool already have youthful players to take that position, and the current options in the market for that specific position with how salah has been deployed are very limited. All the options you mentioned do not stack up comparatively when talking about direct goal contribution. Jota, Diaz, Salah, Mane all had around 20 goal assists seasons two years running within the age range of 23-26. The options you mentioned do no fit. Bowen is the only one. Suprised Kubo from sociedad wasnt mentioned either.
Finally someone saids Nagelsmaan I think he is the most similar profile to Klopp. Leizpig and Bayern played a very similar high pressing, high line football when managed by Nagelsmann, I was impressed by his teams and tactically he is very fluid. He can play 4-2-2-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 so I think its the most sensible. Olise I don’t agree with as Salah replacement, we need a reliable player, we play a lot of games, someone like Kubo or Raphinha is a great shout. The CDM position is the hardest to recruit for right now, but Endo can do the job short term for now until Bajcetic returns to share mins with him. CB stat away from these dutch frauds, the Gakpo and Gravenberch transfes haven’t worked out as of yet and I don’t seem them working out long term, Bastoni or Inacio is a great, great shout!!!
Rafael Leao would be my go-to immediate replacement if we had to fill Salahs boots, I understand it isn’t exactly like for like but our front line is so fluid positionally I feel he could do a job.
Olise over Raphinha, don't see Barcelona selling him since their back up option is still only 16. It has to be sensible on both ends to make sense. Crystal Palace would want to cash out on Olise right about now and he is probably looking towards the next step in his career. 100% agree with the DM option, same situation Barcelona find themselves in. Wait for the Elite don't get someone mediocre as it is of the few positions you shouldn't save on. De Light could make more sense since Tuchel doesn't seem to fond of him. Would love to see an episode on FC Barcelona btw!
@taliamason7986 Will likely be Christensen since he came on a free. Koundé and Raphinha still have a lot of amortization left, so the fee would have to be pretty huge to make a profit. Maybe De Jong since La Masia produces so many good midfielders.
Barca will sell anyone but Gavi at this point, they are playing the FFP game which benefits constant player trading. I think due to Pedri’s injury record they’d even offload him.
@@ElPabloDelDiablo it’s been 2 years since both purchases so even if they sold for the exact fee they paid on the balance sheet that would be profit as far as FFP is concerned, Raphinha signed for around 50m on a 5 year deal so if they sold for 50m and that would be 20m positive gain as I understand it. It’s why we are gonna see player trading constantly and what happened with the Pjanic/Arthur swap which kicked the can down the road for both Barca and Juve
About potential DM options that might be useful for both Liverpool and Barca - I wonder how Zubimendi would perform in the PL. I know Xavi wanted him desperately in the summer. He's definitely a promising talent and for Barca's sake, I hope he ends up moving there. He's done well at Sociedad definitely.
That's what I took from it. Also, that what the Endo purchase seemed to be for me. Give Stefan a few more years and transition him in. Now that Conor Bradley is a clear wonderful RB moving Trent into the midfield along side another creative 6 might just fit Alonso well.
While I agree with the conclusion - we don’t need any signings - Jon has never been right about anything Liverpool. I wouldn’t trust him to find Liverpool on a map.
Agree they should wait for an elite CDM. Endo is not quite elite. But he excellent and breaking up play and progresses the ball well. Macca is there if you want more control of the game. Bajcetic is developing. No point in being in a player who's about as good as either, and impedes bajcetic's, or even Macca's development in the position.
I am unimpressed with everyones favourite football Gremlin. Joao Neves at Benfica looks to be a hugely promising defensive midfielder, if you're Liverpool in Football Manager he's worth all the cheese in the shop. Palhinha at Fulham is ridiculously good but 29 this year, plus please don't take him from us. Exequiel Palacios of Leverkusen and Argentina though is the one. 25 years old, 2.7 tackles/1.6 interceptions a game with a 92% pass accuracy.
With klopp leaving I don't see any huge changes. It will depend on whoever will takeover. Unless its pep lijnders. Also Liverpool fans love an academy player, I'm excited to see where Tyler Morton fits into our plans next season and seeing Quansa and Bradley start is a delight
When I saw Pep was also leaving my dreams of a Shankley to Bob Paisley transition died. With Pep doing the pregame for cups I thought he was working to transition to be that next manager. Maybe whoever comes in doesn't succeed and Pep comes back. Though obviously I'd rather we continue to play great football and win everything forever
@@TheIglePep Ljlinders would have been more like Joe Fagan if anything. Xabi Alonso legitimately share very similar traits to Bob Paisley in how quiet, calm and professional he conducts himself.
I don’t see a point in signing a 6 we have to develop. We already have that in bajcetic, and I believe he can be just as good if not better than those mentioned.
Maybe you guys should do this format (players ready for first team and relatively expensive) but also do the old format of using underlying data for potential future stars before their price is 100mil£, both formats in the video.
Liverpool should buy André. A DM good enough on the ball and off the ball to be regularly appearing for Brazil, he was previously linked for a good reason.
Guy in the top comment is mad, Mac Allister is NOT a DM. He wants to play further forward and was signed to play further forward. If our squad wants to compete post-Klopp, we need a proper DM to give competition to Bajetic and replace Endo and Thiago.
Part of the concern about signing a younger 6 is that they don't want to block the progress of Stefan Bajcetic - I think that's a big reason they didn't sign Romeo Lavia last summer (which seems like it was a good call, since he hasn't played yet). Also...we've seen a dropoff in Salah's production? He has the most G/A of any player in the league this year - he's tied for first in goals AND assists.
I think "no-one" for the 6 at the moment is a good shout. Endo and Macca reconverted have got us covered, waiting for the elite option when it becomes clearer. Same could be said for center back now that we've got Quansah and Gomez is back to great form, AND not needed anymore to cover right back now with Bradley. For right wing I think Take Kubo absolutely deserves a shout... And finally, maybe a bit controversial with the fanbase, but I do think Luis Díaz can and should be upgraded.
Need an elite 6, but if not available nobody is the correct choice. That's basically what Liverpool did, except they got a cheap stop-gap in Endo. Buying nobody is boring, but correct for Liverpool, who don't have infinite resources
Ange, Ange When will those dark clouds all disappear Ange, Ange Where will it lead us from here With no lovin' in our souls And no money in our coats You can't say we're satisfied Ange, Ange
Usually I appreciate your analysis but retiring Salah and Virgil makes no sense. Salah can play until 35 at least, and generally Virgil has great fitness. Hope to see them both for 5 more seasons at the club.
Not gonna lie, miss the old format of Sensible transfers, this "just talking" format is kind of outdated and also too long for my tasting, shorter and more effective videos should be the way forward
If we get Alonso we’ll need a another CB (or two), a new RWB and maybe a midfielder if Thiago leaves. We’d have Konate and Gomez for RCB, VVD and Quansah for that central CB, and ideally someone like Inacio and/or Hincapie for that LCB role (Gomez also an option there). Bastoni is also a good shout tbf but I prefer Inacio and Hincapie. For RWB the obvious choice is Frimpong, given his release clause. I think we have enough options for the double pivot with Trent, Mac, Endo, Gravenberch, Jones and Bajcetic. If we have Thiago too, then we have enough cover. If he leaves, I really like the idea of signing Palacios. I wanted him anyway as a lone 6 if Klopp stayed, but a midfielder signing isn’t as crucial as CB and RWB. I personally don’t think we’ll need any attacking signings if Alonso took over as we then have plenty of attacking options as Szobo, Gakpo and Elliott can play in the wide 10 positions. It’d even suit Salah as he starts to age. Then you still have Diaz as well. Nuñez and Jota are then the striker options.
The best option is going to be hiring Pep Lijnders for a 2 years contract, give Klopp a 2 years break and then bring him back for 10 years contract. But then again, am still dealing with my feelings from last friday so dont listen to me.
Douglas Luis of Villa would be the perfect number 6 for Liverpool. Completely agree with Olise, he would be the perfect on the right side for any team.
What made Klopp special is his connection with the fans and players. The potential replacements that were mentioned are all good coaches, but can they fill Klopp’s shoes? Do they have the charm for the job and to survive through bad times? Also it’s FSG running the show and they run a balance budget - won’t allow an overhaul of the squad just for the sake of style, especially when there is nothing wrong with the squad (look at Man United!) Liverpool needs a new manager to make it 2.1, not to make it 3.0. Xabi Alonso would be X.0, despite I rate him higher than Gerrard both as a player and as a manager. Does that mean Negalsmann is the only choice? Is there any other less well known managers that would fit the profile?
João Neves is the new promess for N°6 and as a Benfica fan i can very confidently say (a bit biased) that he is a monster, but it will cost around 100mill
I think Jon’s picks were actually better despite not picking a DM because I expect Liverpool to do the same. With the performances of Macca & Endo & with Bajcetic to still come back eventually is another DM needed? Especially in this market where quality DM’s are hard to come by with a lot recently moving & costing a lot more than they’re worth. As for the Van Dijk & Salah replacements it really depends on when they leave. Bastoni & De Ligt would not be cheap but they are at least the quality needed to replace van dijk (obviously not as good but nobody is). But if it’s to replace them in 3+ years you’d want someone else younger to grow & improve unless that’s already there in Quansah. I also think Olise & Bastoni are better choices than Raphinha & De Ligt. Of course what I think doesn’t matter it’s whoever replaces Klopp which I hope is Xabi.
tbh since Macallister has come back from injury he has looked a monster. He made Caicedo and Enzo look like clowns. Has impressed me very much last few games.
Why does Palhinha (for example) have to play as a single holding midfielder if Alexander-Arnold is used out wide? Couldn't Mac Allister play the slightly more offensive role alongside him? He's good on the ball, progressive, works hard in defence, and his tackle + interception rate per 90 has flown up from 2.91 to 4.62 even though 2.91 is his average for the past 12 months. That's a very busy half season in defence for Liverpool. He sounds like the perfect link man between the defensive and attacking units. If Alexander-Arnold plays in midfield there's still a place for him. If Alexander-Arnold is back to his old false winger role then Mac Allister adds cover when he roams, even if they bring in a defensive specialist like Palhinha. And he can cover Szoboszlai in the more advanced role if needed.
Yeah, Olise is the perfect replacement for Salah. Also he is trained in England which helps alot with registration. I'm surprised that element wasn't brought up.
I don't know what you have watched but Nagelsman has always played his style, high possession, very close passes, nothing like gegenpressing. That's why it was so problematic when he left Leipzig, they tried to play fast again and the players weren't there. And Bayern had fast passed players and with his slow style they had a lot of problems, he hasn't changed much and has not played different styles
Is this the first time a Sensible Transfers window has passed without Ibrahim Sangaré's name being mentioned? Alex Stewart must be spinning in his grave...
I hope it doesn't go to a young* manager like xabi, RDZ, Michel, Thomas Frank etc. No one will live up to Klopp and I think Liverpool need to go through a year or two of unhappiness and not blame it on an up-and-coming manager
Jacob Greaves from Hull makes a ton of sense - Andy Robertson parallels. Can play LCB or LB and is young enough to learn of VVD for a couple of years before replacing him.
None of the player transfers really matter when we have to replace Klopp. There's a German manager from the black forest I think everyone would like to come in, he's a bit old at 56 years old but I reckon he's still got a good few years left.
