Having to need a partner for the insertion process is very inconvenient. For those who live alone, it’s a big challenge to constantly make sure someone is around to help every single time you need a sensor change. Not only that, that someone also needs to be taught how to do this. That’s why many of us choose the forego this sensor. Medtronic needs to keep up with the current technology.

As an owner of this Medtronic system i don't understand why it has to be so complicated when my wife isn't around and i have to have someone else help me its unnecessarily stressful. I can't believe Medtronic doesn't have a insert and forget obe handed system.

I couldn't agree more with those who find the Medtronic sensor system hard to insert. Like so many others I live alone and don't have a "partner" I can depend on. Medtronic really dropped the ball when they came up with this system! I'll admit that pairing that sensor to the pump does result in better glucose but the Libre is so much easier to use. Perhaps it's time to abandon Medtronic for a Dexcom setup!?

Exactly! I want to be able to insert this when I’m by myself. Normally I insert into my buttocks because I can do it myself. I’m not comfortable inserting into my belly so there’s lots of scar tissue in the buttock. I’d love to switch to my arms but I can’t do it myself

For Pete’s sake! Why can’t the Medtronic Guardian 4 be as simple and as easy to apply as the Dexcom G7?! The 4 can only be placed on the back of the arms. How in the world can the user do all this without help? As an independent T1D, now I have to ask for help! 🙄🤦‍♀️

Libre is so far ahead in sensor living, that it is preventing me from using a guardian 4 paired with my pump. I would rather go manual and libre 2 than full auto and this reduiculous guardian system. I want Medtronic to develop a better system so baldly. Waiting patiently.

Why not remove the white paper liner on the sensor patch before insertion to help keep the sensor in place rather than depend on the tiny ~1/4"x1/2" adhesive just barely around the insertion needle? I had too many sensors get bumped or pulled loose accidentally before a fellow sensor user passed that tip to me. It reduced my new sensor pulling loose from at Minimum 1 per quarterly order to a rare occurrence in probably 10 years of sensor usage. Medtronic, this could be a significant improvement in your insertion method. Granted, it may not give the opportunity to use an adhesive prep wipe on the patch area. But I have never needed prep wipes once changing to this technique.

It’s an extra expense but I don’t use the tape that comes with the sensors because it’s removes skin regardless of solvents used. So I use tegriderm. It’s cheaper if you by it online. Haven’t had a problem since.

I can see a step that you need to take after removing the pedestal from the sensor, make sure to examine the pedestal to see if the plastic sheet is still attached to the top of the pedestal. If not, you can use tweezers to reach into the inserter to remove the plastic that covers the taped area. This only occurs randomly, but the sensor having no tape exposed will pop off the skin or just lift meaning it will not function correctly and will need to be replaced. Using an upward force to remove the plastic cover from the tape may lift the sensor in the serter so use the tweezers to push downward to reseat the sensor before the insertion. If this happens then you can call Medtronic to replace the sensor but be prepared to wait 2+ weeks for the replacement to arrive, I am speaking from my personal experience with this problem.
@Bossmonkey2021
@Bossmonkey2021 Месяц назад
i know exactly what your talking about. i had 5 that were like that. the 1st 2 i pulled and cut around most of the plastic. the last ones i ended up pulling to much and no adhesive was on the sensor so they fell off as soon as i pulled the serter off. Not everyone has a "partner" or someone to help them put the sensor on.

It is very difficult. I've only had it for 1 week now and I don't have anyone to help me. The 2 times I've inserted one I actually got it right on the 3rd try cause the first 2 times were bleeding like crazy. I found removing the needle first is the way to go cause otherwise if you try to remove the adhesive thing it just fiddles it around way too much and transforms you into a blood fountain. I haven't tried removing all adhesive protections yet, but my biggest issue to be honest is removing the needle. I haven't mastered yet the 4-finger technique they show in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V3iaPooPVQg.html&si=2lxH61i9ehCA8OZO She holds the thing down with thumb and ring finger and the 2 other fingers between remove the needle. It looks easy on the video but it's super hard to execute that smoothly

Hi, Diane, the best performance was observed when the sensor was used in the arm. For safety reasons, therefore, the system is indicated for use in the arm. However, if another site is needed, please work with your HCP to assess the best alternative options for you.
