The teenager who shot a Cleveland police detective in March 2023 will be sentenced by Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Shaughnessy Wednesday. tinyurl.com/yonxxexc
He was 18 and he was charged as an adult. The real problem is that attempted murder has less of a sentence than actual murder. They shouldn’t get less of a sentence because they failed to kill the person they were trying to kill.
Why stealing people’s cars if you want car go and get a job and save up money and buy a car. Stop blame mental illness and community. For the things that they did.
He may have to be held accountable for his actions, but his demeanour of his crime........speaks volumes of his actions towards this officer's life. The kid is dying in his own sin.....of Despair and Destruction, and will one day stand before God........come his day of judgement.......God: Judge, Jury and Executioner. Heaven or Hell!!

@user-dn1cy8ln2y 100% correct JESUS will be his Judge. Jesus is coming back Isaiah 13:9 KJV Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the SINNERS thereof out of it.
I asked my Psychologist and she said this young criminal comes from a history of abusive relationships and his violent behaviour reflects and mirrors the violent behaviour of powerful adult figures throughout his childhood and adolescence.
@@steelhurricane4041 Yep, he pulled out his race card and the DA/prosecutor folded under the pressure. He should've been charged with attempted murder of a LEO. That should be a life sentence.
I grew poor in NYC Harlem neighborhood, but I joined the Air Force and when I came back home I joined the law enforcement family. The environment did not dictate my life.
20 years for shooting a public servant in the lawful execution of his duty, whilst resisting arrest? What deterrent is that?? Out in 6-7 to do the same? What a joke.
@@BCNeil No he didn't. The judge gave him the max allowed by law. Its the legislators that have to change the current sentencing laws. The judge had his hands tied.
That detective got a longer sentence than the defendant. It’s sad that you can spend your whole life becoming who you want getting the career you chose, and how quickly a selfish 17-year-old kid can ruin it all. I hope the police officer gets a full recovery.

@@keebo483 Are you insinuating that most school shooters are white males? If so, that is true, but school shootings happen far less than the murders and attempted murders that are committed by the demographic in this case. Each school shooting has fewer deaths and injuries than the number in incidents that happen every weekend in Chicago.
@@stephenbowles7153really? Try something new. It wasn’t liberals that killed a cop on Jan 6th. The judge gave the maximum sentence. He did all that he could do by the letter of the law.
The district attorney failed us. He should've been charged with attempted murder of a LEO, but instead, he was charged with a lesser offense. The DA must be a liberal/democrat.
That was a horrible crime. I hope justice is served to the fullest. That officer Mark could have died. That was brutal, cold and evil. I pray for him and his family.
@@yourlifeisagreatstory 20 years is a disgrace considering his actions. We already know the system is corrupt, it being the best the system can do, doesn't make it right!
He probably wont be alive 20 years from now. He thinks he is gangster - look at that bizarre gun he has lol. He is about to find out that he is not so tough, probably in a really rough way.
Do you NOT know how the justice system works? REAL life is not one of your tv shows that you watch, a judge cant just sentence someone to however amount of years THEY want. EVERY crime carries a MINIMUM and MAXIMUM number of years that a judge is allowed to sentence someone to for that crime. 20 years IS the maximum for that crime in that state.
There are 100s of youth who are raised in "less than desirable circumstances" who don't commit crimes, but who become productive and respected citizens. You don't have a choice in how you were raised, but your life is determined by the choices you make in your life. This was paraphrased by Morgan Freeman and Tim Scott, both of whom grew up poor, but were determined not to proclaim to be victims of their environment.
Great judge for everything you said .Please don't bring mental health issues into this millions all over the world suffering severely with it, but don't do what you did. How dare you
Unbelievable, he should’ve gotten 40 yrs minimum-his sentence is only 20yrs!!! His release will be when he’s 38yrs-old if isn’t released early. This is way too young. He should only be released when he’s hard of walking, hard of hearing & hard of seein’, then we’ll know that he won’t be able to hurt ppl as bad (🙏)
Thank you Detective for your service to your community. My prayers for you & your family & friends are that you heal physically & emotionally. God Bless You & Yours.
I have accepted that our cultures will NEVER get along. It isn't skin color, it is culture. There are many black and white folks who live together in harmony.
@@mapool1485 she didn’t steal a weapon and murder someone. She accidentally pulled the wrong thing. It’s not right but you can see she said taser taser taser. Under high pressure unfortunately in most jobs people make mistakes that cost people their lives. In every situation people lose their own life by a bad decision. Pilots make mistakes like in Lynard Skynard plane crash. 2 seasoned pilots didn’t check fuel when they left airport. It’s terrible 4 other people died. Cab drivers run red lights, boat Capts go out in rough weather. I’m sure the ones that lived are sorry and will be for the rest of their life. Each state is different with repercussions on their wrongs. Take it up with that states Legislators. How about people who kill 2 cops and only get 30 years. Back in my day, you kill a cop you get DP(sparky). Now no one gets DP.

These entitled teens must take responsibility and sentenced for attempted murder so easy to buy your own car, just take YOUR money, go to car dealership and choose your car
Even with his attorney coaching him, he can't say he's sorry for his actions, he says "I'm sorry this happened to you". Like it was a random accident. No taking responsibility, no guilt. This is what incarceration was designed for. To protect us from the likes of him.
@Leann68. There is only one person who has to take responsibility for his own actions, I have seen children from good homes and good parents do horrible things totally against the parent's teachings. I have also seen where 2 children from the same home with the same parents take different paths in life, One had a great work ethic and sense of responsibility while his brother took the path of drugs and crime. What is in a child is in them and difficult to change. And parents are not always aware of a child's behavioral thoughts or actions. A child will behave to his parents exactly the way that he/she knows they want him/her to behave but when they walk out the family door into the real world, they behave the way they want to behave and parents sometimes never see this side of their child. When I say child, I am talking about children of all ages, our offspring are always our children and that includes 17 or 50-year-olds. So please don't let us fall into the trap of blaming or pre-judging the parents or putting them down, this young man's parents could be the nicest, honest people you could meet.
Excellent outcome! There is no way this kid will behave in gaol. He is so smug and that ‘veiled threat’ when addressing the officer was profound. “I hope this doesn’t happen to you again!” What? I’m a regular from Australia 🇦🇺💁♀️ on your live trials; and this by far is the scariest comment I’ve observed at sentencing! I pray someone else caught that as I have! Well done to the Prosecutors. More importantly the Guard of Honour the officers formed as Officer and his Wife left the Court was not lost on me❣️ Blessings to them both and as a mum I can only tell you that your Boy was sent by God to heal your hearts and your wounds🙏
His lawyer is sitting thinking, officer I'm so glad you are ok and your family don't have to live without you, I can't say it out loud but I took an oath to defend to the best of my ability! I'm so glad y'all won and can lock this piece of s up for a long time😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not good enough of a statement, in my opinion. The DA should've charged him with attempted murder of a LEO and then the prosecutor could ask for life in prison (or at least 50 years).
That kid was raised with hate. He has probably learned this hate and attitude from birth on. Does his actions make him feel bad….heck no! He has a cold heart.

They either steal them or they buy them cheap from another criminal as the other criminal wants to get rid of it since it has probably been used in other crimes.
Even after hearing the sentence, the lights didn't come on for him... he has no idea how much time he will be behind bars and what the loss of those years mean. Society is safer with him locked away.
I always think it's a bad thing to use a person's upbringing as an excuse. To me it says this person will always be this way because he is broken by his past. This to me is saying they will always be this way and should not be part of sociaty.
He didn't apologize for shooting the cop. In his words, he apologized for "what happened to you" as though he had nothing to do with it. What he really meant is that he's sorry the officer survived, because that's what happened to the officer.

you're exaggerating a lot. Is he supposed to spend his entire life in prison for being shot while the victim survived and continues to work? The guy is 18 years old, when he grows up he will approach many things differently. He didn't deserve to live in prison. He deserved punishment but not having his life taken away
Where are his parents why don't they have all that information his life is over when he goes in and when he comes out there will be nothing waiting for you but a chance to go back to jail sad sad

If i almost died, got out of the hospital and got to see my kid you bet I'd pick him up not only that I'd tell everyone I GOT TO PICK MY KID UP!!!! God is SOO amazing !!!!! Congrats !!!!
Having dealt with a number of shootings over the years, I think that it's not whether the officer can pick up the child, but whether there's a danger of dropping him. He'll have severe loss of strength for a long time, if not permanently. Often times, bones don't heal correctly, and muscles are literally missing chunks.
@@s13rr4buf3 Who are you talking to? My point is that if the officer has suffered severe damage, and it appears that he has, certain parts of his arms, etc may no longer work well, and he's smart not to try to lift the child. If he drops the little one, and the child is injured, he'd have to live with that forever.
Its sad that his parents didnt even go over to the officer to apologize after it was over. Good job Judge. I wish all of judges are like you. Your speech at the end was well said.
The convicted shooter should never be allowed to speak to the victims… it’s too little too late to try to get sympathy. Abusing the victims continues in the courtroom. Bas-ard
Disclaimer: I am Not giving an excuse or minimizing this criminal in any way........ Looking at the criminal during the victim impact statements, he seemed to not have any comprehension of what the victim's were saying. I wonder if he didn't know, for example, the normalcy of family (that he shattered). I felt that he had no idea of the lifestyle of the victims, and that millions live like this. The sentence was just. You can't apologize truthfully if you don't understand what you did to the victims.

Blame the District Attorney. He or she is the one who decides what to charge the suspect with. If he had charged him with Attempted Murder of a LEO, it would've been a lot more time in prison.
Why do people get stiff sentences for shooting police but when police shoot or assault us they get probation. Matter of fact they get suspended sentencing which is insane.
