Just FYI to everyone asking, yes you can use sentri at global entry kiosks in airports (I think only applicable for us citizens and permanent residents). Global entry can be used at seaports but sentri can't. Global entry can be used in sentri land border lanes but you need to register with CBP first. Just Google sentri Vs global entry and look at the DHS info about it or the chase bank/nerd wallet article on it. Also, according to a CBP update on June 29 2023, if applying for global entry and you register your car for sentri during that initial GE application, there is no fee you need to pay later to CBP. If you don't then you'll have to pay 42$ later to register it with sentri.
I am a US naturalized, Mexican citizen, who currently resides in the border city of San Diego. The high cost of rent, and unaffordable house prices are forcing me to move back to Tijuana to live there for good. But the long wait times have stopped me from making my move. I am about to submit my application for global entry, which seems to be the best choice, in both benefits and processing time to get it.
Thank you for the clarification. I thought about getting global entry or sentri as I want to walk through the border through Pedwest or Pedeast to Tijuana and back. I thought you have to get both but all I needed was Global Entry.
No , you can only possess only one trusted traveler card, be it a SENTRI, NEXUS or Global Entry. You can't have more than one card at a time. All three can be used to walk through the US border checkpoint from Mexico.
@@MontgomeryMall So does that mean if you have one program and apply for another (which is sometimes necessary, e.g. applying for NEXUS if you already have SENTRI or Global Entry, or applying for Global Entry if you are have SENTRI as a non-US Citizen/Permanent Resident), your new card will replace and invalidate your old one?
Using Global Entry card in the SENTRI or NEXUS lanes. Global Entry members, who wish to drive their vehicle in the SENTRI lanes, must register their vehicle with CBP
@@YiNkZZ I plan to get a rental car in Tijuana and drive to San Diego, and I have global entry. Could I use the sentri lane anyway and just go through that secondary checkpoint? I won’t know the exact car to register beforehand.
I ALREADY REGISTERED MY CAR BUT WHAT ABOUT IF IM GOING AS A PASSENGER ON MY GF CAR SHE HAS SENTRI. DO I HAVE TO ADD HER CAR AND PAY THE FEE OR SINCE IM JUST IN THE CAR I CAN USE MY GLOBAL ENTRY ON SENTRI LANES THANKS!
I was going to ask you about if I got the global entry card could I enter to US by driving in sentri lanes by car, but I just saw the photo of every program and I saw the global entry had a little car image, so I just figured out that it is possible? Thank you for the information.
Hello Noe, you are allowed to drive in the SENTRI lanes with the global entry card and it also gives you access for fast route at the airport! I personally would recommend getting Global Entry, its worth more!!
@@YiNkZZ It is necessary to register your vehicle through your TTP account with Global Entry to be able to drive through the SENTRI lanes with your Global Entry card.
Hi YiNkZZ, I travel international by air. I also travel to Mexico by car. I was reading that if I get Global Entry cards, I can not use the SENTRI lane, because to use the SENTRI lane, you have to register your car. Also, if You have SENTRI, you still can use the Global entry kiosk at the airport. So, I am confused about which one would be better in my personal case? Could you give me your opinion? Thank you.
Hi Rocky!! So sorry for the late response but for your case I would absolutely recommend you to get a Global Entry card since you do international air travels. All you need to do is add your car to your Global Entry account and take the SENTRI lane. You won't have any issues, thats what I have made a friend do with me in the car! You can re-read the link in the description to get clarity on the decision you are making. But Global Entry all the way for you sir!!
You can add your vehicle to your Global Entry card for access to the SENTRI lane. However, you must pay a $42 fee for getting It entered into the SENTRI system and approved. The approval process will take several months. Do not proceed through the SENTRI lanes with Global Entry alone before getting your vehicle registered there.
I am told the following, do you know if this is true? 1) The SENTRI card can be registered as Global Entry if you also register your passport. 2) SENTRI includes two free children 3) Global Entry does not include children so they need their own card. Thank you!
I have a question, so what if I just applied yesterday for sentri with my current car, but what if I get a new car by the time if I do get conditional approved n then interview approve? How do I update my car?
@@YiNkZZ Not that many Canadians will have SENTRI as it doesn't expedite entry into Canada, and for non-US citizens/permanent residents, SENTRI can only be used at the US-Mexico border for expedited entry into the US. Here is a summary: ttp.dhs.gov/
I think it depends on which program you can most conveniently get an interview for and how soon. Enrollment on arrival is a great option for Global Entry to avoid the waits, if you are flying into the US soon at an airport that offers this, and don't have a tight connection to another flight after arrival. If you live near the Canadian border or fly to/from Canada frequently NEXUS is another option and is cheaper. Downside is that it requires approval from both US and Canadian government.
Kaarisa I agree with you because I have spent at least like 2 hours in the lines before plus the secondary inspection. It's just a hit or miss. How have you been liking it?
Hello yes you can but make sure that you have your car registered in the system before you drive through that lane or you might get a fine. But you are eligible to use the SENTRI lane.
Yes my SENTRI is set up to drive!! I did not get any transponder because it is not needed to drive across the border!! They know you have a Trusted Travelers Card by a card reader you have to use when you get in front of the line!!
Yes you can walk thru the SENTRI lane for pedestrians because the benefits of SENTRI are pretty much the same for Global Entry, except with GE you get more benefits when flying.
@@YiNkZZ hellll yeah I go to TJ with my sentri all the time, my chick wanna go to try out the food and she has only GE. Good to know thanks for replying imma take her ass to HK too
When i applied for global entry with my personal information I put 2 cars in my application, after the interview I was approved and I'm confused ,if I still need register my cars in sentri program in order to use sentri car lanes?
For SENTRI you need to register your cars since they are 2 different programs. If you use Global Entry, you can still go in SENTRI lane no problem and are fine. Why are you getting SENTRI if you already have GE?
@@skyelee9398 yes you can. When you get to the border just scan your GE card on the machine thing, pull up when you are asked to and answer the questions you are asked. Just make sure everyone in the car also has GE, if not they would need to walk in why you drive in.
My brother. It took me three days from initial application to getting approved on my interview. Just waiting for card now (hopefully in two weeks or less) Sentri process in San Diego 👍 I just recently asked you the questing the other day and I’m good now👍 thanks 🙏
@@YiNkZZUPDATE: My wife recently applied. Got approved on the interview and she paid all the processing fees. When we got home( two hours later) drive. My wife checked her app status and it showed REVOKED. We don’t know what the issue was. Now I’m worried that mine might get revoked as well due “ association “. I’ll update more information as it Becomes available. Forgot to mention that i already received my Sentri card in the mail.
Hi Milton, I dont understand the question you are asking. If you are asking if you can use your global entry card in a Sentri lane then the answer is yes. I talked about this in the video and thought that was clear, if this does not answer your question please clarify.
So long as you pay the extra fee to register your vehicle with the Sentri program to your Global Entry account. You cannot drive a car in a Sentri lane with only a Global Entry card and no vehicle registered to your account.
@@aiko_here.0_0 If you have SENTRI, you can as part of your original application, register a single personal vehicle for passage through the CBP border checkpoints coming from Mexico. If you have Global Entry, you must pay an additional one time fee ($42) to register the vehicle with CBP in order to be able to use the SENTRI lanes in a vehicle. You choose one program or the other, you cannot hold both a SENTRI and Global Entry membership simultaneously.
Very informative thanks! Question, I have GLOBAL ENTRY and a citizen of PHILIPPINES. So if we decided to drive back to the US via San Ysidro, do I need to show my passport and gc as well? Or GLOBAL ENTRY card is sufficient?
Hello, yes you still do need to show your passport since you are not an American citizen and the GC card as well. If you are on a certain visa in the US, just make sure you can show them that visa at the border.
The vehicle which you are driving *must be registered* with the Sentri program and accepted in order for you to drive through with it using the Sentri lanes. You cannot go through with just a Global Entry card and no vehicle registered on your account.
@@YiNkZZ, actually, IF you are a US citizen/permanent resident, you can use sentri at airports in order to access global entry kiosks ... however, global entry can be used at seaports while sentri can't.
@@stenyethanmathews945 you know what you are right about this because I am Canadian so they told me I couldn't use my SENTRI at Global Entry Kiosk. I will pin your comment.
