You can bypass all the way until the Sentri lines, however you need to have a physical Global Entry card

Yes the border crossings are open all night. I remember going over from El Paso to Juarez Mexico to drink, lots of college kids from NMSU and UTEP crossing over to party then come back over in the early morning hours.

You can only use the CBX crossing when you are either going to board a plane within 24 hrs. or are arriving via air.

Correct, a passport or passport card is best, but a DL and birth certificate will work. You might be put into secondary for additional questioning from what I’ve seen but, no big deal

Having a passport or passport card has been a US requirement for over a decade. But the officers are going to be lenient if its shown that you're a US citizen. You might get a lecture or be delayed as they run computer checks on you. Depends on the attitude of the individual officer. A passport card is cheap. $30. No reason to avoid getting one. And Mexico now demands that you produce a passport if you're walking into their country. They may very well refuse you entry if you have no passport.

I did that for the trip I'm on now but the border police especially in the Tijuana airport will hound you about not having your passport but it can be done. It comes down to how they are feeling bc they can be some real assholes but checking in for a flight and boarding will not be a problem

I believe they scan....if you’re an American citizen then your ID should be fine! You might go into secondary but you’ll eventually get through

I crossed on Nov 1st Just with my NY license My friend driving had his Cali license. Agent just asked us what we we doing in TJ... We answered "partying" and he waved us through and wished us a good day!!!

I just put Jack in the box San ysidro and tell the driver to take me to the border once I’m in the car

I usually just say to take me to the border, or La Línea in Spanish...I’ve never known the address haha

All the taxi drivers know where to go when you say 'take me to the border' or 'la linea'. No address necessary.

As of Sepemeber 1 2020 things are getting back to normal. Best time to cross are M,Tu,W,Th mornings after 9 am. Avoid Fridays, Mondays, and weekends if possible.
