Separate drum racks in Ableton Live 🔥💎

See things like this are the reason why ableton has my heart man, coming from FL. I was blown away by the thousands of little tiny workflow optimizations that just make life in ableton so much convenient. It’s really feels like they put so much effort and care into their product so I don’t rly mind continuing to support them through upgrades fees, plus there costumer service is so chill

Tried many different methods of separating a drum rack - this is the fastest way I've found. It'd be nice if Ableton let us separate multiple at once but haven't found a way to do this. Thanks!

Thanx for the video. According to me it's barely unuseful though... The main point is to have as much audio tracks (not Midi tracks) as the number of activated pads on the drum rack. Having loads of midi tracks is just gonna lead to a waste of time while writing the notes down as i will have to do it for every midi track. To me it's far more simple to have every drum pad on the same midi line and having multiple audio tracks. Even for the export to the mixing team. They only need audio...

Yeah I knew about this one, I remember being amazed when I found out about it...

If the concern is not having too many Drum Racks, you could have just the one drum rack, so you can see exactly how all your sounds are placed together, and then route the audio to new Audio tracks, i.e.: Audio Track 1 - Input: 2 DTKv8 Drum Rack > DTKv8 Drum Rack | Base Kick | Post FX, Audio Track 2 - Input: 2 DTKv8 Drum Rack > DTKv8 Drum Rack | Winding Rimshot | Post FX, Audio Track 3 - Input: 2 DTKv8 Drum Rack > DTKv8 Drum Rack | Hat 5 | Post FX, and so on. I get that your method means you don't copy out the 100+ sounds each time, and once you're finished you can cut the master Drum Rack entirely and just have all the 1-sample ones, but reducing the number of instruments at all is a good move. With the audio routing, another advantage is that any time you want to convert to audio, all you have to do is arm all of these tracks and record, rather than having to Freeze > Flatten on every Drum Rack.

I love this feature but just know that if you have a Return Chain List within Drum Rack, Chock Notes or Automation on the Track they will not copy over

I feel weird for not knowing this. I use extract chain to do this same thing though.

I like to load a drum rack the put an instrument rack in the pads I'm using and load samplers into each one of those instrument racks. Then you can load 128 kicks to the kick pad, 128 snares to the snare one and so on....by using the zone in the sampler. Then assign the sample selectors(blue selector under Sel in zone) of each sampler to macro one of each instrument rack. Then assign each Instrument rack macro one to macros of drum rack as kick, snare etc......Then you can just go through your drum sounds on the fly. (128 each at least). It takes a while to set up but it has improved my workflow dramatically. I hope that made sense 😂. There are videos on it. And as for the other macros, you can map them to anything you'd like. I do Transpose, filter cutoff, A,D,S,R. and you can really dial in your drum sounds on the fly as well.

I like to route all my drums to the individual audio tracks but never knew about this option.

We still need a shortcut for selecting multiple samples at once and extracting them to individual midi tracks!

Is there a way to leave all the sounds in the original drum rack but just change the output routing? I'm learning Ableton and coming from FL. In FL there's a rack called FPC and in that you just click the pad to select and then in the top right you decide which track you want it to output to. Simple. All the midi stays with all the other midi, all the sounds are in the same rack, just the output changes. A bit like a real drum machine with multiple outs...

Is there any way to get this to work similarly for some of the Ableton drum racks that have an effects chain on certain drums? I've found that if I drag individual drums out of those racks, the effects have gone and therefore the sounds is completely different
