what Sephora has to improve is the attitude of their beauty advisors. I went to vivo once to test foundations. wow, the store was not crowded and the staff were like doing nothing to help me. I had to stop them to ask for help. that's really fine but what disgusted me was the attitude of advisor. long angry face was shown on her face. I didn't want to take her 'name card' to their cashier but she was at the cashier by the time I was paying payment. ?? the same advisor forgot to deactivate my products for security purposes and when went out of the store, the alarm rang. ok that's fine. the manager came to me and checked all the items I bought and said okay you may go. I was like can you scan the products? her attitude wasnt good and she passed me my items without saying sorry for any inconvenience. what?? even the manager acted this way? i am highly doubt this outlet has proper training. I'm friendly and good mood that day but this experience really turned me off.
I think Vivo's outlet has the worst customer service. I had to circle the store a few times to even find a staff, and it wasnt even crowded! Gave up and went to the counter to get help finding a liquid lipstick shade as the product was displays at different places in the store. I was explaining to the staff and she cut me off by saying ' ya ya, i know,i know' and walk off. She eventually find me and told me that the shade was oos. Maybe they need to work on their customer service too :/
Both Sephora and MAC staff in the middle east are very friendly and donMt judge against different races :) I notice they treat white, black, asian, latinas, kids who like makeup and the elderly who like makeup the same way and with a good mood ❤️
Rose Nguyen yeah. one time i got one but my makeup was pretty simple and everyone that worked there was watching and was like "oh yourself so cute" as if i was an animal in a zoo lol
Rose Nguyen I won't ask for a makeover because, the last time I did one, they just grabbed testers off the shelves and used them on my face. See all the comments here about how unsanitary the testers are? Then why would they use those in these makeovers?! No attempt to even pretend to clean them off first - just eye shadows and mascaras from right out there where the masses were playing with them. I was horrified and so scared I was going to get an infection. When I realized what she was using, I got her to stop. But I already had some makeup on by then. You'd think Sephora employees would know better. But it seems they don't. Be aware that Ulta is even worse, by the way.
DottyGale8 I'm sorry that happened to you! At the location I work at, we are trained to sanitize everything we use on clients with alcohol and use clean brushes, as well as disposable applicators! That should always be the protocol!
Am I the only one who cringed while she was putting on tester makeup directly？ I mean I don't mind swatching on my arms and such but to put it directly on seems unsanitary 😱😱
So... using my keyboard is going to give me the same amount of germs as using a lip gloss or lip stick after random people in a store that's visited by many.. Sorry not possible clearly you know nothing about how germs spread from person to person.
germs are spread when you're around people, period. they are everywhere. im not saying there arent any germs on the beauty products i used. im just saying im not a germaphobe and im not as bothered as you clearly are. look, i dont want this to turn into a debate about who knows more about germs. i think you have better things to do, as do i :)
darkhaven87 Well for starters, Sephora stores are so much bigger there than here in NYC. They also carry Korean brands like Moonshot, 3CE, etc. Although I'll say that the prices are a lot more expensive there than they are here.
+Crystal Wong Well, that's to be expected. All brands that Sephora Singapore carries are imported from all over the world, esp. far off places such as Europe and USA, thus the prices. Unlike in the US where you get lots of local US brands, hence shipping and handling would cost less.

I'm so surprised at the comments of people saying they're scared and intimidated to ask for mini makeovers. At the Sephora I work at in Canada, we are ALWAYS ALWAYS busy because clients are asking for foundation matches, mini eye makeovers, contour/blush... etc. So don't be afraid to ask!!! If the artist is unwelcoming, its not normal and its so wrong. But the word "free" isn't the term we use, its more like "complimentary", because of course we would love for the client to purchase some of the products used. There are a lot of clients who come in just for fun because it's nice to have someone do your makeup, or ask for a complimentary mini facial and have no intent to purchase anything. It can be quite frustrating for us because sometimes you spend 30-60 minutes with them teaching them how to use it, tips and tricks, picking out the best products for them and accommodating for budgets, and in the end they don't even care about what product you even used or what you taught them. But the staff at Sephora are there to guide you and help you find the best products suited to your needs, and sometimes that needs to include a mini makeover. SO JUST ASK! :)
you really cannot sanitize used makeup. There could be fungus, bacteria including MRSA, viruses... Testers are just that they are testers. if you want to actually apply them to your mucous membranes, you do so at your own risk. and it's not a good risk.
Wow that's a huge Sephora. I spent over $500 last Friday and went back on Sunday and spent about $266.00 and I wasn't offered nothing. Most of the employees there could care less and I wasn't given any samples. I might as well keep shopping on line instead of in the store.
Looks like she is in Singapore. They won't give you anything unless you ask for it :( I hope you signed up for the VIB program as you have almost spent enough to be VIB rouge, which means you can get a free makeover whenever you want. I tend to find that they are usually too busy to do them and you have to schedule it. Hope this helps.
When you can't relate to this vid bc you don't have sephora where you live and don't have sephora's online shopping in your country even though you want to get products from there and feel more girly

i always reject the staff when they offer to test foundation shades on my face. because the brushes are used, and you don't know whose faces these same brushes have touched. i just think it is nasty.
I work at Sephora and I can assure you we sanitize all our brushes in between every use with proper brush cleaner, and then sanitize the products with some alcohol spray. And at the end of the night, we deep clean all our brushes with proper brush cleaner and water.
lenangjf every time i have had a foundation tested they use a disposable applicator- not a brush so that the shades dont mix. plus, they sanitize the brushes after every single client anyway.

It's true that Sephora is quite expensive and that some of us can't afford it on a daily basis, but the quality of the products are better than the make-up you can buy at a drug store.

In my country Indonesia, Sephora doesn't complete as the brand shown like this in Singapore's ION Orchard. In my country, they features my local brand like Esqa, Polka, Jacquelle Beauty Tools, Ziniva skincare, Polka, Beauty Box, Cathy Sharon Lip cream and Val by Valerie Thomas. And also features Korea's Clio professional, UK's Soap and Glory, Korea's PureHeals Skincare, and Australia's Klara Cosmetics. It sells only selected items from Sephora exclusive brands.
Lol not everything in Sephora is high end. Sephora in Southeast Asia do have lower end, to mid range & high end products here. I could find myself drugstore price product in Sephora here.
They don't just give you a makeover, you have to ask for it. Usually they are too busy and one has to be scheduled. Especially this time of year, with the holidays and such.
Pro-Tip (at least in the states): VIB Rouge members get unlimited makeovers (full 45 minute sessions) for free, no purchase requirement. Not that I'm advocating striving for VIB Rouge status. It's a constant reminder that I spend a ridiculous amount of money on makeup. Like when you end up renewing and they're like, "Congrats!" And I'm like YEAH! Congrats on spending $1000 bucks. Yay me. BUT. If you do happen to have Rouge status it's one of the better services to know about.
Savanah P Cos Sephora Singapore is one of the few NYX distributors in Singapore. NYX is not considered a drugstore brand in Singapore, it's more of a mid-to-high end brand here. Only Sephora and selected departmental stores have distributor rights to the brand.
At my sephora which is one of the higher volume stores in our district considers a mini makeover to be a single feature 15 mins look not a touch up on everything it can only be just foundation or just eyebrows or just lips single feature not multiple.

Anything overseas is expensive tbh, whether if you're going there or ordering products that are shipped from there to your house; it'll cost a pretty penny.
+Scabaret No, the prices in Sephora Singapore stores are labelled in Singapore Dollars (SGD). And everything in Sephora Singapore is imported, so things here are definitely gonna be more expensive, esp. those brands that come from places outside of Asia.
Scabaret Well, $21 converted to Singapore dollars works out to be about $30, so it makes sense that they're charging $32 here in Singapore. It's not that big a difference especially considering that there's shipping charges to include. :) I love my Kat Von D lipsticks too. hahaha
Having studied professional makeup , I would say the makeup artist from Sephora did a pretty bad job. It clearly shows how much skills and techniques she is lacking. Coming from a student who is studying cosmetics, it was kinda disappointing. Never once did I expect Sephora to hire artists who are such lacklusters. My teacher is a makeup artist for fashion runway models , pretty sure he would be so mad if he sees this.

I'm not sure if this applies to other countries, but Sephoras in the US allow you to take home samples of certain products. So if you're looking at a really expensive cream or oil, you can always ask a clerk to give you a sample of it! And no purchase is required :) it's great for testing out products without making a large investment. Super budget friendly!
In the states you can get a free 15 minute makeover or a 45 minute one if you spend fifty or more and a 90 minute personalized makeover for one twenty five
Although I find the thought of applying testers directly on my face daunting, I think of it as necessary at times. I have ever wasted a ton of money on products that swatch nice but looks completely off on my face. I'm no experienced shopper but if I were indeed provided sanitisers/disposable wands, I would use them. If you think a tester used at the public's disposal is unsanitary by all means just swatch on your arms. It is at her own risk so I don't see why she should be judged really.
My nearest Sephora is so cramped that I literally had an anxiety attack when people were huddling in big crowds to get their makeup. THAT Sephora is like a palace for the makeup Gods and Goddesses...
I'm working at makeup store, just want to give some advice to all girls that so addict with makeup.. *DO NOT PUT ANY TESTER DIRECTLY INTO UR FACE* (makeup and skin care) even you was wipe it off using tissu (for lip products), spray w/ alcohol (for eye shadow) etc there is still some bacterial on it.. tester is making for testing on your hand not for ur face (i had seen so many customers gets some allergy, redness, burning feelings when they apply directly to their face)
samina khurram hi I work in the cosmetics department in Macy's, we have a couple of NYX products down the aisle . There will not be a full line. You can also get these products at drugstore and Ulta.
They recently redid the Sephora at my mall, now it's like this and it was like the best moment of my life. Which is depressing. Also, there's a Nyx store that opened a few years ago at my mall, and I think they're planning on doing more in different parts of the USA? I dunno. But I'd hope.
The one thing I dislike about sephora is how earning the points to get vib/ vib rouge is in a calender year. I'm gonna get it next time I go there but then I only have about a month to use the offers. Idrk how else they would do it tho
Kate Murphy I believe that it actually extends to the NEXT calendar year, so you'll get at least a year to use your offers! For example, if you achieve VIB in August of 2016, you'll have it until December 31st 2017, unless of course you spend enough again to keep it. Hope this helps! :)

I don't get people who go to those makeup counters and just try out make up on their face.. You don't know how many people have used that same brush! It's so unhygienic. At most i'd swatch it on my hands
The Sephora Singapore Beauty Pass doesn't get one points in for purchases in USA or Canada, it only does for purchases in stores and online for selected countries in SE Asia, and Australia, and online purchases for Hong Kong, selected SE Asia countries and New Zealand.
one thing i don't like in stores like sephora is that someone from the staff is always looking after me like i'm going to steel somethink , i would never do it but yeah they are doing their job but still I do not feel comfortable
