Sept. 11, 2001: Then-President George W. Bush was visiting Sarasota, just about seven months into his presidency, when he found out what was happening.
I was in kindergarten when this happened, I only had class for half a day and I didn't go in until later, so I was still at home with my mom the morning the attacks happened. I remember watching the news with her while it all happened live. I don't recall going to school that day and I remember for the next few weeks my parents mostly watched the news. It was a lot to process at that age seeing how all the adults were so scared after what happened and as a kid barely able to realize the magnitude
According to the Chief of Staff (the one who whispered in his ear), the words he whispered were "A second plane hit the second tower. America is under attack."
Yeah no matter what, hearing those words as the leader of the (REDACTED) UNITED STATES must be scary. At least, for a minute or two. You can see it in his face. Edit- I should not have used the words "free world" lmao started a whole new war
@@bigsmilereviews100 If the leader of the free world is the leader of the most free country, it would be Sauli Niinistö from Finland, Harald V. from Norway or Carl XVI. Gustaf from Sweden. Only Americans claim the US is the leader of the free world. No one else.
"A second plane hit the second tower. America is under attack." is what he said to him. I bet his mind and heart were racing immediately. Unable to even focus on what's going on around him.
No he just showed he knew his life wasn't in danger. The secret service would have scrambled him out of there if it wasn't an inside job. His whereabouts at that school was known country wide but considering the military was doing war games the same day for the same scenario and had people in NORAD thinking the footage was fake should be all the evidence you need. But there's a mountain of evidence but I did the research you can find on your own.
Both him & Dick need to be held accountable for crimes against humanity! I fought in both wars & saw first hand why we were there. It wasn’t to instill freedom & democracy. It was about Haliburton & it’s subsidiaries making bank. It’s ok, I get to suffer for the rest of my life for helping. F the government! All lies!
@@donniefaust2763I always thought that too. It was no secret that he was in that school that day. If it really was an “unplanned” attack that we didn’t know was coming, wouldn’t they have gotten his ass out of there and airborn ASAP?? I’m glad someone else said it because I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist, but their reaction was definitely opposite of what seemed a more appropriate response
Yeah true, he was immediately thinking about the next step of his plan after the false flag operation.. He looks to be nodding to himself as if he expected it.. and if you believe it's out of the question I would like to remind you of operation northwoods and you should watch CALLING OUT BRAVO 7..
There's not a ton he could do immediately while sitting there. I think he tried to play it off for the kids but i know in his head he is thinking about what all needs to happen from then on out.
@@sl33ksnypr285652 Like invading some countries, torture prisoners, lying before congress, bombing civilians. All the things decent people are passionate about.
WHY DOES THIS SURPRISE YOU? PAGERS go off because THE GOVERNMENT NETWORK allows them to. That plane already escalated alerts because 911 calls were reporting a low flying aircraft. It started moving up the chain before anyone died yet. And yes the beepers go off after the delay in the system. A delay caused by their lower priority. The alert goes out to the people that matter first, civilians should try to stay out of the way and off the highways in a true crisis.
It's funny too cause u can see how the reporters initially focus on the kids after he's told, then after the news rolls in they start focusing on the president
You can see the look of sadness and fear on his face. He handled that whole situation with such class and professionalism as to not scare those precious kids
your right, a perfect lier in front of children, timed perfectly - 48 hours before, C.Rice had the report that terrorists were trying "To get planes" -They did NOTHING. THE reason for vendetta for Saddam and more wartime for the hit attempt on Bush Sr. - Nothing less than a complete Con on a massive level! Just like JFK! Rinse & Repeat. The only thing the triangle of power has. People better start learning!
he is human, one of the most horrible ones, but a human nonetheless. Just like anyone else that harms humans or puppies and people rush to call them monsters while causing worse to others like us… still humans. But some don’t use their hearts and brains and are afraid, hurt, brainwashed and try to assert a false sense of superiority upon others due to being made to feel insecure and as if superior to any. He’s the best example with all the terrorism he and his cronies in the war business have caused before and especially after the result of their actions in retaliation to the consequences of their actions being paid back in a minute fraction.
No it was absolutely wrong when someone tells you you're country is under attack you get your ass up and find out what up. You can tell the kids the president has some work he has to do and come back later... But to sit there FOR MINUTES AS YOUR COUNTRY BIS U DER ATTACK UNACCEPTABLE.
@@Leanne-of6fb you don't have to tell the kids wtf are you insane... The president has to do some important work I'll be right back... What reality are you in where you telling children adult things? Is this Epstein reality?
It's so sweet that she calls them "my butterflies". But yeah I was so stressed with that teaching style 😂😂😂 and she kept saying "Get ready" when she meant "Go." Different things!
I've seen people criticizing his reaction, but I don't understand why. From the moment they whisper on his ear that the twin towers were attacked, you can clearly see the amount of panic he's holding back. The way I see it, he took it like a champ.
@@user-vl6rz4tx6s dude you gotta understand that when your president its not like you can move around as freely as an ordinary citizen. you move when the secret service says you can, because they probably were arranging transport for him.
Bush said, “The first thing I tried to do was slow my thinking down. I said in my mind, “OK so you’re now the leader of a country that is under attack. Stay calm. You trained for this kind of emergency. You hope it never happens but you’re ready in case it does.” I knew the things we needed to do immediately, but I still feel pretty small in that moment. I just thought, “This has never happened before. How am I supposed to stop this?!” It felt like the plane had crashed into me, as I felt the entire weight of the country suddenly crash down on my shoulders.”
you suppose to single quote a quote in a quote. like this: Donald Trump said "I like hotdogs because Biden said 'I like hotdogs', so that is why I like hotdogs."
This is haunting, devastating and brings back horrific memories (I was 29 at home with my one year old). My husband was sent home from work from a large Financial Services company. We were glued to the tv and cried together and held each other with more love than ever before. I have to comment on the teacher. She does an absolutely superior job teaching those children how to read! I never paid attention to that part of this clip before
I, along with many criticized this “ignorant” reaction. Dude should’ve stood up immediately and calmly said I need to leave. Children would’ve been just fine.
@@geraldbroflovski6041 He should’ve gotten up, said “Excuse me” and then he should’ve left and had government agents look into the attack, have military personel and police officers show up and protect the citizens from any possible then current terrorist activities, and sent ambulances and firetrucks down to the World Trade Center immediately
I’m personally not a huge fan of bushs administration, but his reaction to this news and his impressive composure is astounding to me, I would not have been that calm.
I never liked this reaction, I was quite upset that he just sat there, a National emergency was just presented to him, the logical response would be to calmly state how you need to leave and do so, doubt the children would be traumatized by it, he was an idiot and it made me less of a fan of him as you said too, his “reaction” waging an illegal war on an innocent nation was more audacious then 9/11 itself. I remember when this all went down and I was thinking, why the fuck aren’t you standing up and getting to work ASAP? He got a lot of rightfully placed criticism for this response. Understandably so, as we were all in the dark of what could happen next, if the attacks were full over, etc.
@@tajsimms8976 I found it more “panicky” to see our leader not act ASAP during an emergency. He should’ve stayed in that class room to avoid the illegal invasion of another nation innocent of 9/11.
I have never seen this before. You can tell the president was so incredibly stressed knowing what was really going on and we are now at war. He did his absolute best to try and not show that stress, especially in front of young kids, and be a leader. Simply amazing.
People always look for someone to point the finger at. Should he have spoke out AGAINST going to war?? YES. In this moment he is trying to remain calm in front of a crowd of children..
His demeanor completely changed and fear washed over him but he knew the importance of staying calm and completing his commitment and knew the importance of validating these children.
@@teresatano193 i think the point is not to terrify a class full of children dumb fuck. imagine being as young as the people in that room and seeing the man in charge of your country start panicking and rushing away to save the country from an attack. they would think the whole world is crashing down
Think about it there's no way that aide could've conveyed to him any clear message that would allow him to grasp the gravity of what's happening in those few milliseconds he whispered in his ear unless he was expecting it! He was clearly nervous from the start of the video, look at his hands and his nervous laugh and abrupt movements. He was waiting for it and deliberately chose to be with children at that moment to appear as innocent as possible, I don't understand how people can't see the obvious!
You can tell his thoughts and his head is in a completely different place than in that classroom. Amazing that he held himself well infront of the kids and the teacher. What a crazy coincidence that he was in a classroom when this happened. It feels like something out of a disaster movie. But this was real life!
George probably started hearing that pen smack the paper 100x louder. Eyes got narrow, body tightened, and there was a certain aurora of uneasiness from him. Inside of his suit was probably soaked. Another 10 minutes trying to maintain presidential composure, especially in that environment; my man would've probably had to receive medical attention. As an American kid, you think the president will personally show up at the enemy's door. They can feel that belief when they're around children and know how much it means to them.
He was a horrible President! Busted for cocaine as well but his Daddy was head of the CIA. His grandfather tried to overthrow the Government! And I am not a Democrat so you know!
Same. But I was in the 5th grade. A pretty grim day but I have a funny anecdote from it. At lunch that day, we held a moment of silence. Emotions were running high. As soon as the moment of silence ended, the Jewish kid in our friend-group got up, dramatically pointed at the Pakistani kid in our friend-group (who is still my best friend today), and loudly blamed him for the attacks in front of *everyone in the cafeteria.* And he was 100% serious as well. We all still know each other today and we all legitimately laugh about it now (I mean cmon, we were kids lol), but damn was that effed up, lol. When he heard that shit, dude was like😨lmaoo
1st of all, so impressed by those kiddos and the teacher!! So uniform and orderly! Ironic watching the innocence in the classroom. In a way, it's comforting knowing what else was just unfolding😢
I noticed this, too. Anytime somebody says kids of the past act like the kids of today and I show them videos like these to shut them up. These kids are so quiet and well behaved and it goes to show that children can and are capable of this kind of behavior.
@@Bloombaby99obviously these kids are well behaved they are literally in front of the president doing a rehearsed activity. The whole point is for them to be on the top of their game. That’s like taking a high school basketball team today and comparing it to the Chicago Bulls 30 years ago, then saying “basketball players were obviously better 30 years ago!” No, they weren’t, you just chose 2 different levels.
The way he handled being told the news was really good. Not to jump up and startle the class full of children. Calmly let the teacher and students finish the lesson before leaving.
And he needed that lesson too or he’d have been even more uneducated and I guess dumb though you can be smart and uneducated, like those south Asian tribal villagers reaction channels people, or dumb and educated like him.

You can tell he was surprised by the incident but he stayed physically calm in front of the children. Amazing. Edit : Can y’all stop bashing me.. Edit 2: STOP HATING MY OPINION😭
This is the first time I’ve seen the whole thing and his reaction is entirely normal given the circumstances. What’s the right way to act when you're in front of a class of small kids AND the media, with cameras trained on you, and someone comes up and whispers that planes are being crashed into buildings? Nobody has ever had to deal with that before or since. Nobody could have prepared him for it, yet he handled it incredibly well. It also makes you realise how much power the media has (had?) in steering public opinion. They took short clips of this to make him look bad and whip up resentment.
I’m Canadian so party doesn’t play for me. This man had to be processing so much.I was very impressed with his 9/11 response throughout the days from this moment through that awful time. He was stoic, resolved and ready. If I recall this was just 8 months in his term, and hit the ground running. I thought his father was a good man too. During the Gulf War he set a deadline and a consequence. He got in got out and freed Kuwait, brought the soldiers home. Presidents from both side have impressed me, presidents from both sides didn’t. But Sr and W, we’re good men in their times of crisis. I can’t imagine the amount he was processing as he did his utmost to appear engaged with the children. Dignity and restraint.
The students were a class of 2nd graders. I was also in 2nd grade when 9/11 happened. I remember hearing in the news the days and months following that he was reading to 2nd graders and thinking, "he could've been in my class reading. I'm the same age as those kids and we'll always be the same age." Then I heard people making jokes about his reaction, and thinking that he did the right thing in front of those children.

I cannot imagine what must have been going through his mind at that moment. He may have been fighting back tears while looking at those children. Looking at this now after all these years have passed it's hard for me to fight tears just knowing what happened, seeing his reaction, and how he kept looking at those children knowing what he knew. No matter what you think of him as President or his politics, this was truly a defining moment showing his true stature as a man and President. The exact opposite of Cheney, who most likely is the sole person that set off the chain of events leading to everything that happened. Yet Bush got the blame.
These are the kids who grew up with Dragon Ball. The legendary days of Toonami, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, Gundam Wing, G Gundam, Tenchi Muyo, Ronin Warriors, Power Rangers, and other amazing cartoons and anime back then. Since then, I've worked at Pixar as an intern, and Deck Nine as a game animator. I was in science class in 6th grade when it happened. The mean science teacher turned on the television during class and I remember her saying, "This is sick" or "This is disgusting." She had all the students watch it during class. After kids went back to place with their parents, that was when it was all over the news and parents explained what happened. The same generation that can't find jobs or make money right now. That's the position I'm in.
Say what you will about Bush, but his composure as the nation's leader while the country was under attack in front of the classroom full of children, the future of the nation, stood strong and firm

Indeed. Thats the look of a President in shock and fear over such distressing news, but quickly composes himself. Whatever people might think of his policies, what happened in the immediate aftermath: W. Bush acted like a father to the nation. His formal addresses in the White House later that night and his visit/speech at Ground Zero (two?) days later. "America hears you. The world hears you. And the people who knocked these towers down will hear ALL OF US SOON!"
I adore how charming this teacher is. She never raises her voice & always offers them praise when they've done a good job, her teaching skill makes it clear why Reagan came to visit her school that day.
imagine seeing all his handlers and secret service guys who on a normal day have a very specific and obvious body language, theres no way he would not have become in tune with them like that... then to look around and see that this is not how they normally act and its not just one random guy who at some bad food, its ALL of them and then ALL of the reporters... he's dissasociating at some points you can see the 1000 yard stare and then snapping back to reality.
There’s simply something so haunting about his expression and the shifting in his demeanour when the agent initially whispers in his ear… It captures such a crucial feeling of haplessness in the face of these moments we cannot control nor comprehend.
He was told a small plane crashed into one of the twin towers before this video, but it didn’t seem a big deal. Then he was told a second plane was hit and that they were under attack and he started realizing wha that means. After they finished the book, he went to the teachers lounge and watched the news, while trying to get more information.
This is an AMAZING teacher. Heartbreaking to have such a powerful lesson interrupted, and to have the President feign interest in something that would normally have been extremely awesome.
Media Slammed him for his reaction. He carried on like a solid President should, in front of children. 💯 I don't do Politics, but he was portrayed unfairly.
I remember being in 3rd grade. The teacher told us something happened and class was over. I was excited because school was over early. Sometimes it's strange how things unfold from different perspectives.
I remember my teacher started sobbing... Her brother worked at the twin towers.. It's burned into my memory. We couldn't understand why all the adults were hysterically crying and running in and out of one another's rooms saying saying turn the news on, but my teacher turned on the news. (Maybe she shouldn't have, but I bet a lot of teachers did) and we saw the burning buildings.. We saw the people falling. She dropped to the floor in hysterics. That's when she said her brother works there. The next day after my parents tearfully explained what happened, I realized she was crying because her brother was ... Not here anymore. She was allowed as much time off as she needed, to cope, and deal with family arrangements. I was in 3rd grade.
I was in Middle School in D.C. area. I remember all the parents coming to get their kids out of school and word was my parents workplace was blown up (unfounded). RIP to our friend who lost his dad in the plane that hit the Pentagon.
oh he's not disregarding it, he's keeping the innocent children and the teacher and cameramen---basically he's keeping the american people CALM. What was he supposed to do, jump out of his chair and yell 'there's a terrorist attacking new york, i have to go NOW.' he left shortly after the book was read, calmly said he had work to do, and went to handle it THEN. not in a grade school where innocent children could be traumatized for life.
