For the second year in a row, SEPTA is utilizing two or three of their recently retired AEM-7s for use on their gel trains as the leaves fall from the trees and are crushed on the rails, causing slippery rail conditions across the regional rail system during the fall season. The two Wayne Electric based trains, Wash-1 and 2 use the electrics, while Frazer-based Wash-3 uses diesel power.
I set out to the Doylestown Line on the rainy, gross, cold early morning that was Halloween, October 31, 2019 to document Wash-1, as I knew these guys would certainly be out during the evening. I caught up with Wash-1 at Chalfont as the rain began and a recently tagged SPAX 605, one of two Comet I cabs, came around the corner with AEM-7 2301 on the rear. I chased them to the end of the line at Doylestown where the crew changed ends, heading back south, where I chased them back to Chalfont and Colmar before they entered the main line at Lansdale, from their I captured them at Ambler and Glenside before parting ways and heading home.
Thanks for watching!
