Here's a look at the 19th and 30th Street subway stations in downtown Philadelphia. This is a very unique portion of the Market-Frankford line because the trolley lines run on the outer tracks making local stops and the trains on the middle tracks making limited stops.

This is the only subway tunnel in the world where trolleys and subway trains run side-by-side. NYC used to have something like this but their trolleys were ultimately killed by the buses.

To be fair, only the 30th street station has trolleys and subway trains running under the same tunnel (because both the trolleys and the Market-Frankford L train are going to West Philly). They run separate elsewhere. I'm a Philly native and I'm proud to say we have a good MTA system here. New York City's MTA is way too complicated for people who aren't familiar with the city. Every frickin train under the same tunnels are going somewhere different

@@homeoftek5844 don't the el and subway surface lines share the tunnel from about 15th st to somewhere between 30th and 34th street? 30th is the only station they share in the tunnel, but they parallel eachother for about 15 blocks or so.

@@NortheastTrainMan you might be talking about City Hall/15th st station where the L, trolleys and Broad St subway all meet at the same location as a free interchange But they don't all run under the same station like NYC

@@homeoftek5844 The MFL & Subway Surface lines share a tunnel from around 15th St to around 30th St. Trolleys on the outer tracks, MFL on the inner tracks. The only station they share on that stretch is 30th Street. The El skips 19th & 22nd Streets. I said "around" 15th because it's not directly at 15th Street, like it is at 30th. Not sure what NYC has to do with it. None of SEPTA's subway lines share tracks.

@@NortheastTrainMan The NYC mta isn't mostly linear like Philly's mta is what I mean. NYC's mta is like bus routes where you could be at a subway station in Manhattan where every train that runs down there is going to different locations because of the 5 different boroughs

Unlike SEPTA's Regional Rail, the transit & trolley system (5ft 2.25in Broad Gauge) is not a part of the US Rail Network (4ft 8.5in Standard Gauge).
