here is part one of my sept update. i was going to do it all in one video but youtube will only allow me to do 15 min long videos for some odd reason. part two to follow.
Just been looking back at when you first moved into the loft,,, and you have come a long way and done an amazing job ,,, Love the yard where the van are,,, that is a really nice affect, great cabin build ,,, to many things but all outstanding ,,,
Thanks Alan...yes i did the same a few weeks back and its only when you look right back at the beginning that you realize how far the layout has come. I have done a fair bit more work on it this week too. Terry
Great update, love the scatch build gen, the detail is fantastic, thanks for the tips etc. Keep up the great work and looking forward to your next update. Thanks again Regards Tim,
Great update and really impressed by your scratch build skills. Cabin over generator looms incredibly realistic and loving your attention to detail as always. Coming on great. Cheers, Matt
Great again Terry...my bug is almost back, so a trip up to the railway and a to do list is inevitable.....thanks for sharing your great work again.....Regards Geoff.........
Great update, and great progress, your scratch building is excellent, the generator and office look life like as does the signal gantry, keep up the good work and videos. Al
thanks Al....did all the track weathering around the retaining wall today and added static grass. the area is now looking very good and i am happy with it. i am just about to post some photos onto RMWEB if your interested. Terry
Hi Terry the signal gantry is that a kit or did you get the bits to make it I am after some mesh like what you used on the housing for the signals ,some great bits of scenery coming along as well cheers Kevin
Your worktop looks like mine , I keep saying must tidy up..some nice work you are doing there Terry , I tried some of that fencing , bit of a pain threading the top wire through , neat job on the ballasting
yeah the fence was a pain to do but well worth the effort i think, there is no point cleaning the desk up as it will only be a mess again an hour later.
cheers paul..im getting a lot more confident in scratch building now but it has taken a few mistakes along the way but thats how we learn right, lol. terry
Yeah you're right, my layouts been one long learning curve lol I prefer scratch built stuff to off the shelf but it does take too much time. Your vids are great and Im taking a lot of pointers from them. Is it definitely the wheels on the Heljans that cause a problem, Ive got a couple of 47s that are awkward on dcc but run okay on DC. I did wonder about dirty wheels or could it be the start voltage in the chip when working in dcc, I think I read somewhere the motors draw a lot of current? My dirty track wont help either, there's another job! All the best Paul
Dunge Wood well i replaced the wheels on both 33's and one runs perfect and the other has issues still. so i am going to replace the decoder and see how that goes then if it stills runs badly then i will take it apart and look at the wiring and motor.
Glebe Road Junction I do wonder if it's issues combined causing the loco problems. I just find it odd mine seem fine on dc? but bad on dcc. I've one 47 that won't even move on dcc but does with little tap on dc. Have you tried the 33s on dc? I'd be interested to see if you can get them running. If I get a minute I may have a mess around with the cvs of the decoder just to see what happens. Cheers Paul
no the layout is in dcc only. i think it it has an old bachmann 8pin decoder and like you said the motor draws a lot power and i have had to replace some old hornby decoders in my other heljans so i think i will start there first as im sure that could cure the issue now i have replaced the wheels. terry
Blimey, i dnt knw where to start!!!? Fantastic!!!!!! That was a cracking vid and u can c how much u hav been working on it! Ur scratch building blows me away!! I thot the signal gantry was impressive, bt then u showed that raised cabin!! Bloody brilliant! Ur scenery additions and details are equally as nice! Im gonna bob over n watch Part 2 now :) oh, and great opening shots of the Sentinel, if u ever wanna get rid of that u knw where to call ;)
I love your work! The signal gantry is awesome!!!!!!! When you light the signal box remember the lower windows dont get lit up, its only ever used by maintenance crews to inspect the frame. You wouldnt see sleepers inside a wash shed like that, they would rot, it would be a concrete hard standing all round, and a maintenance depot would probably have an inspection pit or a gantry crane so they can inspect the bogies etc. I wouldnt bother saying any of this but this layout is so fcuking superb it actually deserves those little touches. Also the arrows of indecission,,,, I highly doubt they would have been on an EWS building... I love this layout, it is without doubt one of the best, its the best era, when you could see blue, swallow and even Virgin liveries on the lines.
BladeRunner21577 And there was something else I wanted to mention, I dont know where your layout is based, it looks like WCML >? At this time Network Rail was called Rail Track, (its called Network Rail now though) and there were usually sub contracting firms, a few I remember were Jarvis Rail, Carillion Rail, GT Rail (Carillion bought GT Rail and became GTRM) (I worked for all of them and we maintained the track infrastructure)
hi mate thanks for the comment. i will be adding a concrete strip the the rail center in the wash plant at some point and i did want to add inspection pits to the shed but i have support beams running under that section of the baseboard so i am unable to add any which is a shame. and i agree with the lighting in the signal box as this is what i had in mind anyway. i dont have any certain era i run but it is from the mid 80's to the present day therefore i can run anything in that time frame although i do tend to run mostly 80's stock. and the layout is loosely based around the ECML around london area.
Hi Terry, Did send birthday wishes to you on your e-mail address. Lovely little detailing bits and pieces you are creating now especially the signal gantry, Keep up the good work. STEVIE B.
thanks for the comment daren. no i have not done a video on ballasting as there are plenty of videos here on youtube that go into how to do the ballasting correctly and if i was to do one it would be a waste of time as it would be the same. terry
Scratch building is brilliant I can only hope I can get half as good.Layout is looking very good and shows me I should have planed more before starting.Like the tunnels the are very unusual
Every time your detailing just blows me away, everything just looks like it is supposed to be there, love it can't wait to start watching part 2 of your big update. You going nrm in Peterborough?
Yeah I said about warley, already got it in my calender, just though the oeterborough one looked pretty big, its called national festival of railway modelling
Hello sir. When you say your lights look the nuts, does that mean the dog's b***ocks?! I think the whole thing is the nuts, it's really on a par with exhibition railways. Love the generator!
