Honestly, if you weren't enjoying Owen Meany at the point you DNF'd, you did the right thing. It was really the book that would never end! The movie (Simon Birch) is really loosely adapted from the book and only covers the time when they are kids...which was the best part of the book anyway.
I'm sorry you didn't like butcher and blackbird. It was one of my favorite books of last year and I also enjoyed leather and lark. I loved rowan and Sloane's story. Here's to a better reading month for you! 😊
I enjoyed The Inheritance Games as well - I read the rest of the original trilogy and recently picked up The Brothers Hawthorne and the new off-shoot of the series-The Grandest Game. I'm a little afraid that I'll get tired of the characters/premise after all that.
I am glad you are getting out of your slump, I also think I am out of my mine. I am again excited for my books to read. I read in Sept but wasn't excited, I dnf two books, but read 5 more. I didn't like Inheritance Games or Maus, I dnf them both somewhere in the middle of reading them. I did listen to the 911 book about 2 years ago and found it very sad, but necessary to know.
I agree on Butcher and Blackbird....even though lots of great reviews, I don't want to read about serial killers. Rather read something else. Not every book should be read by everyone. Thanks for validating my decision not to read it!
I feel like the big difference between middle grade and YA is that going into a middle grade, you know you're going to have to suspend your disbelief A LOT because it is meant for a much younger audience. But with YA, the stories can often be at about the same level as new adult or adult, just toned down in terms of violence, sexual content, etc. I personally enjoy YA and middle grade and adult books, but I definitely feel like the YA books tend to be adult books that are just slightly...lacking something. Almost like you're not getting the whole story. Also, my favorite middle grade series is the Trixie Belden mystery series, I definitely recommend it if you can get your hands on them. The first three have been republished recently, but there are 30-some books total, most of which are still out of print (they were published in the 70s if I remember right).
Thank you for your insights! I think you're right. I'm okay with how young MG is, but don't enjoy how close YA is to adult. I will have to check out the Trixie Belden series!
@@BekahBooksandBujo Ah, cool! But what I meant was the same concept but another theme😊 (though you can't really read too many Titanic books, can you...)
