As happy as I am to know this video finally reached one million, It still doesn't serve justice for what this man has accomplished in the music industry. Rest easy, Dilla and Baatin. You'll always be remembered.
This chop is the number 1 reason I put J Dilla above DJ Premier, Pete rock, and Kanye as far as pure hip hop production. Dilla could make a beat that sounded like any of those producers. But if you ask each of those same producers if they could duplicate a Dilla beat the answer is a resounding NO. Dilla was in another universe.
I respect this take always, but I will say, Dilla was a little more one dimensional even tho he was an absolute master when it came to sample chopping and 'boom bap' drums...but realistically you think he could have made stuff that sounded like sounds from 808's or MBDTF? Not to shit on him at all he's an absolute GOAT, but he never made anything like that in terms of overall sonics
@@jwizdum2103 MBDTF has Dilla all over it sonically in my opinion. Also its not really fair to compare Dilla to Kanye. Kanye has a team of people engineering the sound he wants, especially for 808s and MBDTF where Mike Dean, No I.D., Bhasker had a big part on those beats.
Not even Kanye was able to chop that Smokey Robinson as great as Dilla. Only producer to come close to Dilla is Madlib and it could be argued that Madlib influenced Dilla more than Dilla influenced Madlib.
No doubt that Dilla is king but if you follow their music after they met each other and started working Madlibs style stayed somewhat consistent but Dillas Donuts was heavily influenced by Madlib.
I can see how it happened... after finishing off mixing this beat, he just leaned back on his chair, stared at the reflection of the city on his window at night, while noddin his head to the rythm of the snare exactly after the intro. No expression. He found greatness in Motown music once again and expresses it his own way. No one else is there to listen like always. Another day of greatness for the pioneer, the best of all time.
Al Dali that’s what people said dilla was, lol a straight hood nigga who liked ass, titties and fly clothes they said he wasn’t like the usual backpack producers lol
Favorite beat of all time. I’ve tried to write a song over this many times but none of my bars are good enough yet for this masterpiece. Maybe one day... rip Jay.
this beat, straight up brings me to tears. I dont understand how dilla did it. this beat just kills me. the things a human can do with their mind and a simple beat box... this beat is beyond words. it touched me to an emotional level. damn it, i couldnt imagine what other magical tracks would be out today if he were still with us. ahead of his time. Rest in peace to James Dewitt Yancey.
i think what made dilla so unique was his ear for music and ability to find samples. a truly gifted musician whose legacy will live on through his creations.
On the Finn..... Lord Dilla...... Was a true blessing to this planet.... For his music.!!! He started the new vibes when it comes to Hip Hop... No other has come close to his talent hands down....💯
Something about smokey robinson and dilla just makes me forget about everything. Like right now, all that matters is that I dont let this beat stop. I've listened to "One Eleven" for years, it never gets old, and I can never play it once.
wow those vocal are so soulful u can here dilla and what he's doing sampling is such an amazing expression, hes playing the song, expressionn wow rest in peace J Dilla
Mitch Edquist Man its like I know you, even though you are this random person on the internet whom I have never met! It's like we understand each other as if we have been friends for years
If this jont doesn't make you smile and/or cry and/or laugh and/or dance and/or get passionate and start singing and/or bob your head like a maniac, you don't have a soul.
