finally a video that's not lazy, most in youtube about afx focus on randomization and yours shows that's a lot of work that richard d james puts in almost every midi trig.
Both afx tutorials have been top tier. Looking forward to more from your channel. You have a good grasp on his drum technique, hate when people rely on randomness to get afx drums because they’re anything but.
Thank you so much! That means so much. I think using randomness can be EXTREMELY helpful in some cases but in my opinion, it's picking the parts out of randomness which is genuinely useful. I used to just make everything random, press go, resample for 5 minutes and think "Yeah that's good enough"...
The pitch bend automation should depend on your PB range setting on the specific synth you are using, so its always a relative amount to the PB range. If you set your PB range to one octave, 7000 would bee a fifth indeed. Lovely tutorials, keep them coming, really go to detail :)
The MIDI Ctrl pitch bend does not represent semitones. It's simply a numerical value. It is determined by the synth in Pitch Bend section, where a pitch bend range is shown. So if you have a pitch bend range of 1 and you modulate it in the MIDI clip by half, it will be moving 0.5 semitones. Operator default is usually 5 semitones (a perfect 4th) and most of the other ableton devices are 2 semitones,
@@eptiar i’m curious to see how you go about making the percussion sounds. i made a bunch using downsampling among other processing, i think also using some spectral processing, if that gives any ideas. definitely a resampling sorta technique imo. and i’m happy to send you the samples i made if you’d like.
You know, same! There's a certain bass in Cock/Ver 10 (I think). I've tried recreating it with my 303 clone, I've used Renoise, Ableton and I have to be honest, I can't get anywhere near that sound...I'll keep trying though haha
He uses synths that are not 303s to make acid sounds... one thing I've figured out is it's likely a sine wave synth making acid sounds and some kind of subtle phaser effect. I have a quadraverb like he used early on, and one of the phaser presets does a kind of thing to the bass that you hear on analord, where the bass notes sound like wet farts.
Another piece of the puzzle I've figured out recently is this; I bought a TD-3 with some mods that aren't part of the standard devil fish mods you find in the td-3 MO... one of them is a portamento dial that makes all notes, as you say, fold in on themselves... probably a mod he's been using for 20+ himself.
