Yes i really hate the teams whos relying their shoulder to one player its a team game. Italy did it tonight.

Tonight we played as a team, Serbia instead was only Boskovic. We managed to give the best of ourselves and we won. Serbia is very strong but tonight i think they charged everything on their leader..

I agree. It was the supporting factor that mattered today and won the championship. Both Bošković and Egonu were already expected to give it all and play all out. But it was Egonu who got support from other players and the team didn’t heavily rely on her. Serbia relied to Bošković too much that she got pressured, tired and exhausted.

@@user-ci7vu7eo9w That’s right. Brankica Mihajlović’s absence was truly felt when they face a strong, healthy and complete opponent like Italy. Milena Rašić and Mina Popović actually contributed and played well but those were not enough. Stefana Veljković’s firepower was missing as well as she wasn’t healthy enough to play. Serbia needs to hone and develop effective and strong OHs for them to be able to defend their title in the 2022 FIVB Women’s World Championship. Many strong teams like USA, Brazil, China, Turkey and Italy will surely fight to get that championship.

Yep, true.. first we were only surprised by CEV scheduling SF and Final matches without a day break in between(?), but as the tournament went on we got truly worried about the amount of physical, emotional strength left in our team, and after that thrilling, challenging SF with your team, always truly great opponent❤ we knew that our team can not play more then a set or 2 on the same level, not day-to-day, especially Maja or Tijana who is playing on the highest possible level for weeks, starting with 29th July in Tokyo till September 3th - and still scoring, she already made amazing 39 points and the new world record in ball speed in Final round, playing SF. Who can recover within less then 24h? We should be proud of our girls, especially Serbia, with another Olympic medal but also Italy and Turkey, we remained firmly on top of the game in Europe, and - why not, among top teams in World..

Thats what I said. Sure, Italian girls had less time to get ready but no offense they were facing the Netherlands and Netheralds was way easier to beat than Turkey

@@BizziNuando Si, per un quinquennio la Serbia è stata superiore: aveva la migliore setter (Ognjenovic insieme a Wolosz), un libero (insieme a De Gennaro, ed un centrale fortissimo (Rasic) Poi negli ultimi 3 anni si è aggiunto Boskovic. Però Ognjenovic e Rasic sono ormai anziane e non vedo ricambi all'altezza. Noi dovremo solo trovare in futuro una nuova De Gennaro, e non è semplice.

İtalya gibi savunma yapabilseydik Boskovic 38 sayı üretmezdi. Kötü gününden ziyade İtalya iyi savunma yaptığı için 20 sayıda kaldı. Geçen yıl Belgrad da 3-1 yendiğimizde çok iyi savunma örneği vermiştik. Oyun içinde Ebrar ile birlikte sayı üretecek oyuncu da devreye giremeyince maç koptu. En büyük eksiğimiz iyi bir smaçör.

@Doge di Amalfi the tournament for both teams were long and adding OG to it (it ended on 8th of August, EC started on 18th of August), would you be well prepared for everything? Italy is a great team and you eere almost there till this tournament, but Serbia always blocked Italy from winning (WCH '18, EUROVOLLEY '19, Tokyo 2020). I'm glad Italy finally got some appreciation in sight of trophies cause that generation deserves much more. I'm just sad cause it was played in Serbia and they didn't manage to finish one great circle of achievements in the best possible way. Some of serbian players retired or maybe will retire and I hope to see many great matches in the future. We (Italy and Serbia) had a faith to play almost every single group sport tournament against each other (tokyo qualifications men's volleyball 2019, basketball qualifications men's, eurobasket women's, volleyball, waterpolo...In Junior category also. Our teams are the best in the World championships (senior and junior women's) so I expect more great and nerve- wrecking matches!

This comparison should be true if you're comparing serbia with russia or poland which have genetically the same average height of serbia and they have more people but with turkey and Italy is a nosense. Even if they are less is way easier to find high players with strong body in Serbia than in italy or turkey, there is a reason why serbia is so strong in sports like basket or waterpolo; sports where is required a certain type of body wich is waaaaay easier to find in country like serbia, Russia or poland than in italy or turkey

@Μαρίνα Σ you aren't BIAS, aren't you? Olympics is definetely the most erratic tourney of the world, with a team that hardly makes it to the second turn on monday and wins the gold 5 days later. As for Serbia, it is an aged team with most players close to retirement, next year you'll find yourself with Boskovic and nothing else (Mirkovic and outside hitters are ridicolous...). In the correct perspective, USA and Italy are the best teams, it was a pity that poor physical conditions of Egonu and Sylla one month ago had deprived volley world of the very announced final for gold, period.

WC is much stronger competition. In Europa only Serbia, Italy and Turkey. In the World USA currently the best. Everybody forgot China golden medal from Rio they had problems with COVID. Also Brasil is too strong. Korea beat Turkey. For sure WC will be much more interesting.

The outcome of the match the two teams played one month ago was only due to an heavily biased Olimpic Campaign developped by Mazzanti and its staff, yesterday's result is faithful in pointing out the current gap between the two teams and, beware, the gap is doomed to grow, since Ognjenović, Veljković and Rasic are going to retire and Mihajlović is no more the player she used to be until a couple of years ago; and their supposed substitutes are largely far from being of a comparable level. On the other hand, Italy's age is around 25-26 years of average, so prepare to a countless number of defeats against Italy in the next years ;-)

A a fan of Serbia I have to say it is normal in sport. It is diffucult to beat one oponent (in this case Italy) on every big tourament. Especially when Italy have like 4, 5 members of unstoppable Conegliano club team. Honestly it is tough, because I would rather prefer one Gold this year like Italy did then 2 other medals silver and bronze (og, ec). Also, look at other big teams like USA, thay waited too long to win olympics

Yeah, in this final new world record was set for the most spectators in a women's volleyball match. There were 20565 people in the Belgrade Arena. Amazing!

Fortunately there's always another chance for everyone... At latest Tokyo Olympics, Italy started with the right foot, beat Russia, Turkey and Argentina (and qualified mathematically), but then made an awful mess, lost badly 3-0 against China (without their star Zhu Ting), then against USA (3-2) and ended playing against Serbia, whose players played much better than Italy, with more determination, concentration and motivation. I watched that match on TV, at the start of set2 Egonu spiked twice... outside the court! So I thought "If Egonu herself makes 2 consecutive mistakes, then there's no chance to win this match" and it ended 3-0 for Serbia...

@@tianspam9731 Well, I suspect that after the first 3 brilliant victories, italian players convinced themselves they were practically invincible and could always win against any other team. After 3 matches China had only 1 point and was out mathematically, so italian girls believed that match would be just a formality (Zhu Ting was out) and made lots of terrible mistakes at any level (serve, receive, blocks, etc.), that's why China instead won 3-0. After a 3-0 defeat, no excuses can be found...

They were all tired not only Serbia or Turkey but also Italy and Netherlands . They were playing non stop. Italy studied Serbia well and how to block bosco.

Isnt more pressure on Serbia after a match againt Turkey AND in front of 15.000 Serbian watchers? Just saying that the fact that a lot of watchers are Serbian doesnt make it that crucial for Italy, it makes it harder for Serbia. Anyways, Congrats!

It is not only the crowd, it is the element of being in a familiar surrounding, familiar court, familiar atmosphere. Atletes usually praise their crowd, especially in their home matches. But I agree, for some it becomes stiffening. So you argue that home court is a disadvantage? If so, I have to disagree. The Serbian women volleyball team has for several years been the “angstgegner” of the Italians and rightly so. Some teams simply do not match up well however. But, I do not want to wonder off topic. If the Serbian team was feared by many, it was because they were such a great team. The final however showed us again that much depends on the form of the day.
