As one British correspondent wrote to me from Serbia recently in regard to personal safety there, "There is no crime. Really there just isn't. A seventeen year old blondie can walk from point A to point B in Beograd, drunk and alone, without let or hindrance. The police are omni-present but not in a negative way, they're there to make sure that everyone knows that they're there.".
Agree or disagree but Kija and Sloba shouldn't be that famous. The reality shows have a lot of influence on our youth, and i don't think there is anything positive that they give. Anyway great video as always.
Charles, I am President of a small to medium sized truck company in the Chicago area. We have 15-16 great employees in Novi Sad. Two of my partners are from there. Great people. Excellent work ethic and attitude. Looking forward to coming over to visit our team there and the other teammates in Macedonia. Thanks for the great videos. Very interesting and informative.
I gotta admit, being a Serbian, i never thought i'd watch a video of an American talking about Serbia and actually enjoy lol. This was more fun than some of my history lessons of Serbia we had in school
I agree, but dont be so hard on Charles. You can hear a lot of Serbs using the same name for that region, which is, in my honest opinion, much bigger problem, to put it mildly. I am more pissed when I hear Serbs, especially on TV, calling it that way. Cheers
@@stefanijarandjelovic7732 They are calling it "sandzak" because of money and they are traitors, in few years it will be same problem as Kosovo, they want independent. Our president is weak. One main problem is our books in history books its written "Sandzak" they need to know, that we are under Nato occupation over 20years.
Hey Charles! I've been watching your videos for years now. I felt obliged to thank you first of all, and also share some of my thoughts regarding your video. First, thank you. You've really helped put out some positivity connected to our country out into the world. There's not a lot of it really, both from Serbs and foreigners alike. But I HAVE heard that almost all foreigners who come visit end up liking it. And I get it, people mostly associate Serbia (when they understand it's an actual country) with genocide and WW1. Yes, we've done some bad things in the past, but so has the rest of the world. That doesn't make it right, of course, but I'm just trying to say that there shouldn't be double standards about these things. Secondly, it's interesting how I always end up learning new things about my own country from watching your videos! For example, the thing you mentioned about white cards. I never knew there was a law like that. I knew that foreigners had some extra paperwork to do, but wasn't aware of the specifics of it all. Also, I also thought I'd mention an interesting law regarding minorities here in Serbia, since you talked a bit about it. Apparently, according to the "Law of Protection of Rights and Freedom of National Minorities", the people of minorities can use their own language in administrative paperwork (applications, requests, communication with the staff...) AND can also get an education in their own language. They legally don't have to learn Serbian at all. This goes for around 20 languages I think. Then again, I'm not a law student, nor a minority, so I'm not sure how applied this is in practice, but I still think it's nice that the opportunity exists, at least on paper. Thought you might be interested to hear about it. You're a bigger Serb than most of us after all! Anyway, I'll stop with this rant, but thanks again for everything you've done for Serbia, and the Balkans in general!
Thank you, Charles, for your brief presentation regrading Serbia today! You said that you were living there for almost nine years and don't even try to speak Serbian language. What a shame! Yes, there are about 7 million Serbs living in Serbia proper, but there are almost as have of that number living all over the world. They are speaking almost all world major languages, not only English. The Serbian language is the mother language of all 12 Slavic languages. The Serbian alphabet is the oldest alphabet in Europe. Out of that alphabet the Latin and Greek alphabet were derived. In short, the Serbian alphabet is the mother of all major alphabets of Europe. The Serbian calendar is the oldest (this is 7,526 year) and most sophisticated calendar in the world. Based on the Serbian Calendar all computers are coded, i.e., year/month/date. Currently, Serbia is under American occupation. Its industry and economy was completely destroyed by an illegal order of the former USA's president Clinton, while he was served in the Oval Office by Miss Lewinsky. By bombing the Serbs for 78 days and nights, William Jefferson Clinton diverted the attention of the USA nation from his shenanigans in the Oval Office. He managed to destroy the country of Yugoslavia, the land of the South Slavs, and from one beautiful and economically viable country facilitated the creation of the seven "banana republics". They are not economically viable and able to thrive as "independent countries" but to be the new colonies of the imperial USA. By doing that, Clinton managed to bring down once the most advanced economy of Eastern Europe, the Serbian (or Yugoslavian) economy, to the level of the third world country. Clinton with other 19 NATO vassal countries occupied the Serbina ancient province of Kosovo and Metohija, where he built up the largest American military base in Europe, the "Bondsteel", and illegally declared that province as an "Independence state". Because of that, the Serbian people are now living in a painful poverty, which you find to be very cheap for living there. Your arrogance is painful for the Serbs, but they are too nice and civilized people to tell you publicly about it. I am not ashamed of this fact and dare to tell you about it. I am a Serb living and working at the moment in the USA. Before that, I was fortunate to visit major European countries, like Russia, Germany, France, England and Spain, like you are now visiting Serbia. I worked very hard to learn their languages out of respect for their people and their cultures. Yes, I can not pronounce perfectly well a prefix "the", but none of the Europeans can pronounce the Serbian letters "c", "tch", "ch", "zh", "dj" or "dz". So, nobody in Serbia will mind that, because we know that it is hard to do it, unless you are native born and educated in Serbia. Yes, you mentioned that Nikola Tesla and Mihailo Pupin are best known Serbs, but you fail to state why they are known. In order to help you out, I want to remind you that Tesla had invented the entire technology of the AC currents and all AC three-phase machines and gave all his inventions to whole world for free. On the other hand. Mihailo Pupin resolved the issues of the long distance telephone communications and many other related patents. In short, the Serbs gave to the world several thousand years before Jesus Christ the following major items: the wheel, the literacy, the agriculture, the metallurgy, the calendar, and later, at the end of XIX and the beginning of the XX centuries, the technology of AC currents, the remote control e.t.c. In Europe today, the most numerous people are the Slavic people. According to the latest scientific analysis based on the DNA, it was proven that the parents of all Slavic people are the ancient Serbian people. All right, I am going to stop here and, once again, I thank you for your decision to make your living in Serbia, but, while you are there, I encourage you to learn its language and a little bit more about its history, because you will love that country and its people even more.
Charles, you should say that Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin language do not exist really... They all speak Serbian and they all become countries in last 25 years...
Well Croatian existed before but Bosnian and Montenegrin was never mentioned before the breakup of Yugoslavia. After the breakup Bosniaks suddenly remembered their language and Montenegrins in 2006.
Oh, I also found that you shouldn't ask for "Turkish coffee", you should always ask for "Domacha kafa". There are some historical reasons for that. :) PS. I also came here with kids and wife...
@@nikd7549 It is cold in Serbia, my girlfriend is Serb and she says it snows a lot there, in Vojvodina specifically Zrenjanin. So it is really cold there but not always of course.
Hello Charles, One update about second largerst airport in Serbia. Niš Constantine the Great Airport now have 10 routes across Europe. Most are low cost (Wizz Air, Ryanair). With SWISS via Zurich (Switzerland) you can connect up to 40 worldwide destinations. Currently 5 destinations to USA via Zurich are Miami, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, New York. Best regards,
Dear Charles, I’m a new follower. You are doing great job! Just a suggestion- you should update the part of trains in Serbia. Actually, trains from Belgrade to Novi Sad do not go 2 years from now, because of rail-road renovation. Thanks, wish you all the best!
i must say you got really everything right. You explained everything like understandable and made good refences for people who dont know alot about Serbia and European COuntries overall. And also it didnt seem like you were try'na "kiss ass" to say so to serbian people but you just stated the facts. Svaka čast, charlie ! Dobro urađen posao !
"Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava" is just modern interpretation. Real meaning is: Βασιλεὺς Βασιλέων, Βασιλεύων Βασιλευόντων. It is on Greece language and it means "Car Careva Caruje Carevima", or on english "King of Kings rules to all Kings". Today it represents Jesus Christ. In Rome it represened Cesar. It is on Serbia s flag from 1402. year and came from a Vizantine family Paleolog when Serbian King Stefan Lazarevic was Vizantine Despot. You can find it on Google.
The 4 C's (S's actually) aren't really 4 C's, Serbs took that from Byzantine Empire and made that meaning up "Unity Only Saves the Serb", in fact that are no 4 x C. Albanians use the same double headed Eagle, the Russians and Serbs...all took it from Byzantine Empire www.flaggenlexikon.de/fbyzanz.htm
This is great Charles. I believe that also many Serbs can learn a lot if they watch this. Cause, you know how everyone says how Americans are mainly dummy nation and they don't know anything about history, geography etc. But in fact, it's more or less the same all over the globe. I am sure that many of us Serbs have no clue about most of this you are talking here about Serbia.
10:30 ive been speaking english over half of my life, and i genuinely didnt even hear the TH sound as a unique sound until couple of weeks ago while watching a german streamer getting made fun of by her chat for saying "thighs" like "ties" (which made me very aware that ive been saying it wrong all this time lmfao); talked about it with a few of my freinds, some of which are canadian and i cannot for the life of me figure out how in the hell im supposed to make the TH sounds properly lmao
Have you ever visited Krusevav, little but nice town with lot of "banja's", moutains. Lot of people from Belgrade come here to live because it is 2 to 3 times cheaper to libe here, food on market is also cheaper, taxis are 3 to 5 time cheape and so on. If you want I can welcome you, I have small apartment but there are free beds as I live alone. I am willing to drive you Kopaonik, Vrnjacka banja, Soko banja, Jasrtrebac if you want to see this part of Serbia (central Serbia). Of course, I am working man so if you are willing I think that I will find a lot o f time in July.
Ive lived in Serbia for 30 years and moved to US and i live here for over 3 years now. This is useful for me as well :) Coming back at the end of March this year and i had no idea about CarGo and stuff like that. Thank you Charles.
One of famois serbian is Milan Milankovic born at 1879 who desrcibed everything about climate and climate changes a long before this climate changes starts to happening, you can read of it on wikipedia. He told everithing in 19 century that is happening today.
Must admit that I am impressed with the amount of the knowledge that you have about Serbia but more so with the ways that you talk about the Serbia, with love and passion and without arrogance and ignorance that most of the foreigners do. BRAVO
Hi Charles .I just found out your videos about my country, people and culture and I am so thankful for all nice words about it..once again Hvala puno and God bless u :-)
There is only serbian language, dont invent new one. Serbian enemy does that to minimaise our history in balkan and in the world. Make one show about similarity serbian and your english and explain that .
I have to correct you about our coat of arms or heraldry, its not four S, they are four ''fire starters'', on Serbian ''Ocilo'' on Byzantine/Greek Beta ''basileus basileon basileuon basileuonton'' meaning ''Emperor of Emperors ruling over Emperors'' and it has one more meaning '' With fire we will defend Cross ''. Anyway, great video Charles.
False history created by Germans and Austrians together with Greeks to steal our 5000 year culture, so we are denied the lands we have since bronze age. Byzantine never existed in that form, and Serbia alone gave Roman Empire 14 emperors. That is indeed a sign of 4 Serbian gods written in Vinca and Lepenski Vir.
Not going to be pissed, I am Albanian and love serbs aslong as they are nice people. But it kinda irritated me because I understand that you Say Kosovo is part of serbia, but it’s mostly Albanian. And you didn’t mention them at all. There are wayy more Albanians in Serbia then Hungarians if you consider Kosovo to be serbia. About 20% are Albanian then.
Not mad at you or something, but, who cares? We built church and roads there, our saints and our people’s bones stand there, our people are banished or killed there? And u want to take our holy land from us?Kosovo is heart of every serbian man,my heart is there, and people can’t live without heart.U have Albania already, why do you want to steal our land? And why u hate us so much?
Great video but you should have specified that the muslim population are not serbs in order to avoid equivocations (someone may think that there are "muslim Serbs")
