Sergei is a diehard Classical soloistic players who plays things made for other instrument and covers the whole spectrum. And Allen is A jazz and classical soloist but also very creative and male his own piece as well as collaborations and jazz festivals all around. Both great players and both on preference.
As usually, this "who's the best" is the stupidest question ever. 2 men, 2 styles, 2 very different feelings and emotions... Both of them are fantastic, that's it.
Every single player on this planet has something to learn from these two trumpet Masters. Even Winton will tell you the same thing. Among REAL Maestri like these, there's a huge amount of respect!
Isn't it better just to say you like many different horn players for what they bring stylistically and otherwise to the table musically Lots of pretty much Boss Hosses in the world of trumpet playing. My first trumpet teacher was this little Italian gentleman that I had my first four years on trumpet. And Etti had the same countenance as Alan Vizzutti. Vizzutti is in a class not of this earth but my first teacher had a rrighteous set of chops. Listening to Alan play this reminds me of Etti Chuidioni. Thanks for the memory.
I thing that we can't judge from this because they're not the same type, they also have their own special, and they're also the great trumpet player, too.
Both are absolutely amazing and it's difficult to say who is better. They have both mastered their instruments but have different styles. Hell don't forget Wynton Marsalis another master.
The video for Sergei, when he is playing Ad Absurdum, is from when he played the carnival of venice in Israel. I suppose trumpetvirtuose wanted to have videos for both songs. But sergei did play that song. In fact it was written especially for him. P.S. Sergei wins (his sound is nicer).
I disagree, Allen's sound is way better, Allen has the range and is able to skip notes way better than Sergei, Allen also doesn't stick to the dogmatic style of classical and can branch off to multiple styles like jazz, blues etc. You can't say that Sergei is better
They both have prodigious techniques and beautiful sounds, but Vizzutti invented and perfected numerous new techniques for the trumpet that will probably remain unplayable by anyone else in the world - including Mr. Nakariakov. Vizzutti is also a more complete musician, as he is also a composer, jazz improvisor, screamin' big-band lead player and educator. I'm a flutist myself, but can still appreciate what he has done for his instrument. I will never forget the senior recital he gave at the Eastman School of Music when I came in as a freshman in 1973. He was from another planet then, and still is! Bravo to both players, though.
Allen Vizutti is a freak of nature and one of the greatest trumpet players to have ever lived. There is no comparison. Sergei is great, but Allen is a better musician.
Allen Vizzutti as an extreme technique but could be better with the respiration. Sergei Nakariakov as a nice staccato and respiration but has a reduced technique and range. So its simply about the preferences of yourself. For me its Allen Vizutti but for you it can be sergei. It's all a matter of what you think is the most important.
***** takes more than just technique to determine who the better musician is. I'm not taking sides though. Personally I like Wynton's sound most out of those mentioned. I like Chris Botti's sound more than any of these guys but he is nowhere near as technical as them.
I just noticed that sergei stops playing at 0:46 but you can still hear a trumpet. It can be a trumpet from the orchestra but it probably wouldn't sound exactly the same. Something fishy is going on here.
I love both players for different reasons. They both have very different sounds, very different interpretations, and very different levels of experience. Currently, Nakariakov is 38. I don't know how old Vizzutti is, but he's definitely quite a bit older than 38. The age difference has a factor in this also. Yes, Nakariakov did release his first album when he was 15, but players continue to develop and mature as they age, just like the human body does. Comparing Nakariakov, who is a young, extremely talented classical soloist to Vizzutti, who is an older, more experienced player who plays more than one style of music would be like comparing any two people with this wide of a margin between them in any other area. Both Nakariakov and Vizzutti are fanominal trumpeters, and I personally like Nakariakov a little more, just because I like his tone better, but they should not be compared like this. We should just be thankful that such trumpet beasts exist, and that we can learn from them.
Which is better? That is up to the preferences of the listener. Vizzutti could duplicate every note that Nakariakov plays in his classical works, but the sense of style would probably be less effective. Nakariakov could probably not improvise a great jazz solo and probably does not have the high range of Vizzutti. Vive la difference! I will relate a humorous story: I got into a cab in Gstaad, Switzerland after a concert for a ride to my hotel in Gsteig. The cab driver learned I was a trumpet player and told me his mother was Nakariakov's manager. I was impressed! He then said that his mother kept telling Nakariakov that if he would play jazz, he would be a millionaire. I almost laughed out loud. I thought about all of the great jazz players who are working day jobs to pay the rent! (I don't know whether the guy was telling the truth or not.) Nakariakov is doing fine job of being Nakariakov, and Vizzutti is doing a damn good job of being Vizzutti!
My trumpet teacher, Doug Marshall went to college with him. He asked me to check him out on youtube. He said Vizzutti is the best trumpet player around when it comes to the technical aspects of trumpet playing. I agree.
@bestfhornplayerever True. I mean maybe Sergei's performance was better, but would that make him a better trumpet player? I think not. No one except for these players in question (Wynton, Sergei, Allen) truly know their own capabilities. You have to remember that these guys are CONSTANTLY getting better. You really hit the nail on its head bestfhornplayerever. Nice observation.
The first video isn't "fake". It's just that the piece being played (Ad Absurdum) has no video. Only audio. So the person who made this video dubbed the audio over Sergei playing live. If you have never heard Ad Absurdum you should look it up. It will change your view on what's possible on the trumpet
SN's tonguing sounds more consistent than AV's. , AV's playing is more dynamic. At least in these samples. Then there's AV's range. I still might sacrifice a digit or two to be able to play like either one of these phenomenal musicians.
I agree Vizutti is one of top overall trumpet players who have ever lived. The guy has lived and breathed the trumpet for the last 40 years. He may not be a freak of nature, simply because he has probably out practiced anyone who has ever picked up the trumpet, but he is close to a freak as one can get.
They're both unbelievable monsters of the trumpet world. I personally like nakariakov more, but there is no real objective way to rank one over the other.
Love alenna Vizzuti And Nakariakov are good and different personalities, and dominate the trumpet, BOTH WHICH MAKE USE OF TROMPETE? U.S. indentifica ME MORE PARTICULARLY With Wynton Marsalis
i dont know if its the different recordings or not... but vizzutti seems to have more dark tone to it, but nakariakov was just knocking the piece out of the park though... im not trumpet player, but im a fan of vizzutti and marsalis, but putting vizzutti, marsalis, and nakariakov up as the top three trumpet players is Fact... in what order no one can say, better yet nobody has any business saying
not really a fair question here. Vizzutti is a completely different type of player then Sergei. Sergei is an amazing technical trumpeter that tongues almost everything and has great interpretation in music while Allen Vizzutti is more of an all around type of player (range, tone, showmanship,etc...), My suggestion is to stop putting these masters against each other like a cheap kung-fu movie and just learn from each one of them.
vizzutti kicks flexibility ass.. nakariakov is really impressive espec with contemporary stuff. personally hate vizzuttis jazz playing but hes a freak of a player. nak tends to just go a bit over the top..espec w things like aratunian. love this piece tho!! far out! it's kind of a strange comparison though really...vizzutti and nak. and you canNOT say that wynton is the best jazz player...he's a great "i cover both areas" player but comeon...jazz greats like clifford, miles, etc kick his butt.
Circular breathing & double tongueing impossible? Look up Moto Perpetuo by raphael mendez. Then listen to Wynton, Sergei, and others attempt this. No question who the champ is. And he played this a late 40's early 50's.
Neither is the best, and I hate videos that are based on that premise. They are both world class players but there are significant differences. Thankfully that gives us some variety for our enjoyment. Thumbs down for presuming to judge one as "better".. it's bullshit.
Now don't get me wrong, I think Sergei is an incredible player and I certainly could never reach his level of proficiency, but the thing that I have never liked about him is the way he holds the horn down as if he were playing a clarinet. For me, he is very hard to watch. I'd much rather just listen because every time I watch him play I cringe, lol. But I respect and admire him and Allen as well.
So Nakariakov gets 2 minutes of a very low range, hard to hear, piece and vizzutti gets five minutes of a flashy trashy piece that shows off way more everything. Be at least sort of fair. People who don't know trumpet or these players will misjudge from watching this. Besides, isn't tone the most important thing? Sergei has far superior tone quality. Sure Allen can whip nastiness at you and shock you into applause. That doesn't make him better.
Thirty five years ago I thought that I will never hear something close to the great Rafael Mendez. Thanks God, I was wrong. I think that Vizzutti recorded the most difficult trumpet concerto or performance ever (Carnival of Venus). I didnt hear all Nakariakov recordings. He is a great virtuoso and I think that he has all tools required to be the greatest trumpet player ever. He should try popular music to compare with Vizzutti. I think the same of Simeo.
Allen's a champ. Sergei gets more women than all of you put together. This is a waste of time, why are we not practicing right now? How cool is trumpet. How cool is it when they play high.... and loud.
The duel - Sergei plays Carnival Of Venice. Allen plays Carnival of Venice, then plays Firedance. Sergei looks blankly at Allen and plays Carnival of Venice again. Is there anything Sergei can play that Allen can't? No. Is there anything Allen can play that Sergei can't? Yup, lots.
