Sergey Kovalev - Is a Russian professional boxer. He has held multiple Light-Heavyweight world championships including the WBA (Undisputed) and IBF titles from 2014 to 2016, and the WBO title three times between 2013 and 2019. Nicknamed the "Krusher", Kovalev is particularly known for his exceptional punching power although he describes himself as "just a regular boxer". Kovalev first became world champion in 2013 when he defeated the long reigning WBO title holder Nathan Cleverly via TKO in the 4th round. He went on to successfully win and unify titles 8 times before losing a controversial decision to Andre Ward. Kovalev's most notable victories include; Bernard Hopkins, Jean Pascal and Eleider Álvarez. Certainly one of the best Light-Heavyweights of this generation, Kovalev's current professional record stands at 35-5-1 (29 KO's).

Great video as usual. i really dont think people realise how good kovalev really is fundamentally.you can have all the power in the world but if you dont know how to set up power shots you wont hit anyone..thats why i dont understand why people dont recognize wilder's skill to set up the right hand. If thats all you have to worry about with him how does he always end up landing it?

@@hanzagod Disgusting decision and one that makes me a lot more angry than other bad calls. Ward is not even a household name. You expect guys like Canelo and Mayweather to get the nod in competitive fights they lose, but Ward? No... No reason for boxing to do Kovalev the way they did..

@@Boundlesss1 The reason was easy: Ward is american, Kova a russian. They would never let him win on american soil, that's all. What's really disgusting is the outcome of the second fight and how Tony Weeks gave the thumbs up to Ward at the beginning of the fight like to say "i got you bro". And we saw how it ended... that was really disgusting for whoever loves this sport!

@@punchforpound2808 it's a fear factor thing where people will be nervous about it so people will spend too much time trying to avoid it and then end up getting a right hand to the skull because of it or it can be used as a blinder to reach out and cover the opponent's eyes then withdraw quickly and then land a right hand again

@@r.a.8407 if he adapts to a holding and hitting style like klitchko then he'll be good for a few more years,but inside will only do more damage as he's so old and learning it now ,able was a horrible trainer horrible yikes,also G doesn't trust his strength anymore which he should,his trainer now wants speed and combos,his power is already there hence dervyenchenkos face after the fight,but he needs to throw combos and just let his hands go,or drop weight and go down to 154 maybe 160 is too much for him,just like bivol should drop to 168 175 to big for him

They sit down and throw they’re body weight into their jab. They mix flickering jabs with power jabs and it takes their antagonist by surprise

If you watch carefully almost all of the jabs he has dropped people with he is shifting most of his weight onto his front foot and using his leg to spring more power into the jab, he does it from right hands and feints. Quite a few Russian fighters do this its not so common in western styles.

Great video! I think many recognise Kovalev for his power, but not so much for his boxing ability and the massive variations of his jab. I also very much like the way he ends his combinations with the jab to re-establish distance from the opponent, to limit potential counters to his attack and to reset his feet.

I think Ward was doing well and probably up a round at the time of the stoppage. I think the low blows were awful and that ref should be ashamed. That said, Ward was doing well in fight 2 and had hurt Kovalev to the head right before that. I don't think Ward won clean but I think he was winning the fight. Kovalev was definitely the winner of fight 1 on my card though. Pretty clearly too. Ward did not do enough in fight 1 period.

Jabbing the crap out of Canelo and maintaing the pace is likely Kovalev's best gameplan... But imagine if he just goes for the KO in the first 3-4 rounds. Would be epic.

One of my favourite active fighters has been for years now, love the slight weight shift he does before throwing his power jab, can come from a right hand as a 2-1 or he feints the right and loads the power jab in the process. I stole that shit and it works so well.. 😂😂

I had Ward and Kovalev each winning 6 rounds in their first fight with Kovalev winning due to the knockdown. And Kovalev clearly threw the fight against Canelo.

to me, kovalev is not that masterful boxer. he's pretty good, but his style is built on hard and reliable jab, and high aggression and devastating power in the right. personally i prefer the more methodical boxers, but kovalev, in his prime, was surely a very entertaining boxer to watch. and one of my most favorite all time light heavy to watch.

Watching Beterbiev fight Gvozdyk the other night, I thought, "Damn, Beterbiev hits hard. I wonder if he cracks as hard as Kovalev?" Yeah, no. Watching this video kind of put the lie to that and reminded me of who Krusher is. After Bob Foster this guy is the most hammer-handed light heavy of all-time. Power's the last thing to go and Buddy has retooled him. Good luck against Canelo!

@@KD-vq2wt I think Kovalev has better speed and precision, and throws punches right as you come in more often, as you saw in the Ward fight. And Beterbiev is thudding, he stands closer and has very powerful shots that actually don't have much telegraph, but the power levels are close. I'd have to say Beterbiev hits harder. Someone should get around to asking a fighter who has fought both of them who is the harder puncher some day.

Beterbiev and Kovalev fought in amateurs. Beterbiev has less flaws, makes him better fighter imo.

Its crazy how he sets up his jab. Most of the time its not even the leading punch to prepare for a right hand. It comes as the last punch of a flurry. Take an eye on that

Kovalev is basically done though you can't really include him in today's crop of fighters. He's essentially retired, he may have the odd fight here or there at Cruiserweight but he's finished at world class level.
