What did we learn from Israel Keyes? During his interviews he gave tips on what to do and not do. Keep your windows and garage doors closed. Have dogs, because they alert if there’s an intruder. He stated that he was very quiet and would sometimes lay in wait inside people’s homes. He is the reason I never sleep with my windows open.

Israel Keyes might’ve been the most organized serial killer (SK) ever. He was the thing of nightmares because of his brain. Now psychopathy and intelligence aren’t really coupled as you can have a guy like Gary Ridgway - I think Gary was measured at maybe 90 tops where American average is around 98 - with a low IQ who’s a psychopath and a guy like Ted Kaczynski with an IQ of 167 who also was a psychopath. I do think though that if you graph psychopathy as a function of intelligence you might get an inverted bell curve where you see more of them on the low and high ends of intelligence. The graph might be like a very scary “smile.” But Keyes was no dummy and he was an incredible planner. Unfortunately Keyes was also an extreme psychopath. (Lawrence Bittaker was like Keyes but Bittaker was a far worse sadist. I think Lawrence’s IQ was listed at higher than 140 and I believe he was a really good Tool-and-Die maker. You can’t be a dummy and do that job.)

Even though Israel Keyes was maybe the most organized serial killer (SK) ever he made unbelievable mistakes with his kidnapping and murder of Samantha Koenig, his “final kill.” I think Samantha was her name as I’ve read a couple books on Keyes but it’s been a few years. But during interviews with an FBI agent after capture - I’ve watched and listened tomost of those interviews - I believe Keyes admitted breaking his own rules with Koenig. Keyes got lazy after a lot of murders which can be quite common for even the most disciplined SKs. Because they get away with crimes they start to think they will continue evading capture and Keyes really did himself in by doing the following: 1. Abduct someone locally for him, and 2. He got greedy and went after money, and 3. He kept open a line of communication with her family. BTK did himself in by communicating with the media by sending them a 3.5-inch floppy disc which was surprisingly stupid. But the more communication an SK has with media, police or family the more likely he is to slip up. John Douglas talks about this a lot in his books and that’s why Douglas nearly always encourages police departments to “keep him talking.” Indeed.

Israel Keyes was a chillingly methodical and elusive serial killer, making him one of the most terrifying individuals in criminal history (IMO) His ability to carefully plan and carry out his crimes without leaving a trace for years showcases his cold and calculated nature. Burying kill kits everywhere…SCARY. Even though he is dead, it’s like he left his evil impressions in our psyches.

In my opinion Keyes was a hitter for the government. He grew up in a fundamentalist group. He had no birth certificate yet was later in the military. His military record is sealed. He was friends with the other OKC perpetrator (can’t remember his name). His treatment after arrest was highly suspicious.

israel keyes has been done to death. this format of 7 episodes to tell the story of israel keyes when so little information exists about him is boring IMO. these guys aren't personal. this podcast multi episode format worked 6+yrs ago but it isn't where true crime is now. i hope they've got better than 7 episodes in israel keyes. i truly don't think they know their audience. or what's going on in true crime. i'm also not devoting 7 episodes to one topic when i can go over to 15 other channels and get the story in 20-45mins all at once. there is virtually no information on israel keyes, that's the frustrating issue of this particular serial killer, so how are they going to drag it out for 7 episodes? sorry im watching info on rex heuermann and reading rhe foia docs from lori and chad still bc there's still another trial and more info coming out. won't be subscribing to deviant. nothing new there.
