I stumbled across Rubxy Dixon through her Fireblood Dragons series (I'm listening to them on audio) and omg her stories have me hooked. There are so many laughable moments and I'm definitely going to be getting into Ice Planet Barbarians after watching this video. I've read or listened to all of these and most of them more than once. Love ruby dixon... and the Blue guys have been on the ice planet for two or three thousand years. It was discovered that their ship had a computer malfunction
I'm am so pumped you made this video. I've read all of IPB and Icehome since June, and I'm semi-obsessed. I agree with basically everything you have to say about it, and I'm so excited you liked Barbarian's Mate because that's probably my favorite. I actually love Josie-- she'd been through so much trauma yet was still so hopeful, and still longing for true love and children. I really felt her distress at the prospect of being mated to someone she had a bad relationship with and all the issues that brought up for her. I think Tia's book will be the last, setting aside the novellas that will probably pop up revisiting the characters. Isn't she staying with Sesseh's parents now? I get the older generation of Sa-Khui mixed up. I feel like the story so far has been hinting that she'll end up with Sesseh. I'm predicitng that in 3-4 years of story time Sesseh will return to Croatoan to visit his parents and a romance will spark between him and (a more mature) Tia. I'm off to check out Jessica Clare now.
For real! I admire that Josie found a way to keep going in spite of the horrors she experienced. And I think her building up in her mind her perfect soulmate & then having it be a guy she’s been fighting with for months would be legitimately crushing to her. Team Josie FTW! (Also, I feel like I didn’t give enough of a shout out to the fact that her Khoi literally shoved out her IUD- dedication 😳)
Looove your video. Didn't pause it from beginning to end lol. I've been following Ruby Dixon for years. I don't know if it's just me, but i feel the series and the spin-offs (and even the standalones) deserve graphic versions. I believe they would really add up to the whole alien imaginarium.

Hellooo, I'd love you to try at least the first one in the Lupi saga by Eileen Wilks, because it kind of discuss this fated mate trope that the woman haven't wish for and didn't know it exist, even in an urban fantasy saga. She is a poc protagonist and an FBI agent if I remember correctly and the male is a werewolf :). And OMG, I laughed with your explanation of the blue pennis vibrator! I'm hyped. One thing I didn't get if you said it is, are these barbarian tribes all men?? I mean, aren't they blue women?? Fantastic video, Mara.
Ah, yes, there are a few blue women! But most of them died in a plague about 5-10 years before the series started, so there’s only like 5 of them left 😢
So I have said before that you have piqued my interest in this series, but now I'm definitely sold on trying it out. This was a great video by the way...I loved the mention of the literary theory and the psychology behind romance being so popular, etc.

Loved this! You already had me convinced to read this series (read books 1-2 so far) but I am now even more excited to continue. And I particularly loved you analysis of the series/themes in the beginning, these sorts of discussions always make me appreciate a book/series even more.
This series has been shown to me on Kindle Unlimited so often, but I never had a desire to read them. But now you’ve convinced me! Have you heard of JC Andrijeski? I love her Bridge & Sword series. It’s a dark sci-fiapocalyptic alternate history romance. I’ve read the series at least 3 times because JC has revised it over the years and it has such an interesting premise that I’ve never gotten tired of. I own the series I love it so much. But the entire series, including the novellas, are on KU.
I love Ice Planet Barbarians and most Alien & Barbarian romance novels. Makes me wish I was on those planets I have read many alien and barbarian romance novels.

I love the Ice Planet series. I liked the start of the Ice Home series, but my fave by far is Willa's Beast. I'm like you I did get Beauty and the Beast vibes from this book.

This video is fabulous first of all! I binge read and loved the first 3 books and definitely plan on reading on. But can I say how much I dislike the covers!!! Some of the fan art is so good and I would have started reading then a while ago if the covers weren’t such a turn off.
Until the planet name Not-Hoth was said 3 times, I was thinking it was “Not Hoth. As in, don’t be confused with the Ice Planet in Star Wars named Hoth.” Was the author giving a nod to Star Wars? I love it!

Compare "Beauty and the Billionaire" to "Alien's Mail Order Bride". AMOB is like a beat for beat retread of the first half of B&TB. I totally love Jessica Clare's Billiionaire's series and Dixon's Messakhs. So...
@@bookslikewhoa also, if you compare the sex scenes in her Billionaires books to the various IPB/IH sex scenes, there's a lot of similar wording. I know there's only so many ways to put a P in a V, but the "authorial voice" is sooooo similar. (Which is I think why I immediately liked IPB!)
22:28 I think it's important to mention that Tiffany is the only Black Woman in the series up until that point even if the cover has been totally white washed. She's gone through the most in terms of alien abuse and has made it a point to learn all the Sakhui trades. She wants to be self-sufficient so that she does not need anyone in the tribe while being as much help to the tribe. She struggles with the possibility of resonance because she was r**ed and tortured.
With that said... You've convinced me to continue with IceHome. I stopped at Lauren's story and I read Abigail's Family because I was curious as to how RD handled her story. I too agree that I like IPB better than IceHome. It just has a different feel and the connection in the first series felt more intense and real than the second one but again... I've only read one book from that series but we get a glimpse of Veronica and the Dragon since he transports the folks back and forth from the beach to the homestead and I don't feel the connection.
Do you know if Ruby Dixon ever created a story about Pac besides Raven's Return. I thought I had bought them all, but I don't remember a story of pack ever joining the tribe.
I’m absolutely devastated that this author has the range for great world building and storytelling, and she used it for ALIEN SMUT, I will still be continuing the series though. Still can’t get over the first interaction being like ‘oh i should be screaming rape, but i like it’ HE JUST STARTED EATING HER OUT WHILE SHE WAS ASLEEP, THAT SHIT ISNT OKAY Also I found u through this video! They are an odd ones for me - the heroins are, well, not my type, but somehow I still find myself searching them out on odd times and reading them again. Not the best, but it fills it's purpose. There is only one book I absolutely didn't like. It was the No Poison holiday book. It started with the tanner explaining how hard and tedious work it was to make skins, and the next chapter starts with the human woman using another skin for list making. That came off so wrong, especially as they've been living there for a long time and they should have picked up by then how precious skins are, thus to treat your resources so frivolously was just heartbreakingly naive. I loved the rest of the book, but this is my least favorite because of that insensitively stupid nuance. There were others to pick on, but I still go back and read them again and again.
