SERIOUS Allergic Reaction after hospital screw-up!
Malin & Tom
Malin is still in the hospital, and suffering from a potentially serious allergic reaction after the hospital made a huge mistake. It's panic-mode all round as the doctors realise what a huge error this could be.
For those of you who have followed our battle with colon cancer, you might remember that Malin has a very serious allergy towards the iodine-based contrast solution that is used during CT scans, and her allergy specialist decided that she should NEVER be given the contrast solution. However, due to the seriousness of Malin's abdominal pains, the doctors decided that Malin needed to have a CT scan with contrast, so they would give her pre-medication to help a potential allergic reaction. That's where the mistake was made...
A year ago, Malin was diagnosed with an aggressive form of colon cancer and has since undergone radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and two major operations, leaving her with a permanent colostomy. They also removed her colon, uterus, and more. Although the second of these operations was 6 months ago, Malin is still struggling with the aftermath, and although her colon cancer isn't there any more, she still has many issues and scars from the battle.

We are a young 'Swenglish' adventure family, that consists of Swedish Malin, English Tom, and babies Charlie & Isabella, who are half and half. Hi Tom and Malin This is such terrible news that they gave you something you were not supposed to have. It’s basically the same in Uk and a bit irresponsible . Bless your hearts Malin and Tom. I can’t believe you can’t Sue there. My 1st major back surgery : the Surgeon performed the wrong surgery which landed me in an emergency major spinal surgery 5 months post op. I was in such a bad mental state, my disability Judge advised me to sue, but I didn’t and regret not doing so as he performed numerous “ Wrong Spinal Surgeries “on many after me. But thank God for keeping you free of a really bad reaction. I am so glad that you get a free pass home for Your special day and for Charlie’s Birthday. I pray that all goes well and your past the worse of the reaction( which should not have happened) the hospital shouldn’t charge you for any test, meds etc. due to the Huge Misktake they made. Ugh. I'm so sorry you had to go through that scare! Hopefully, by the time you read this, things are looking a little brighter. I'm glad you are getting the medical care and checks that are needed. Here's hoping for a lovely fall. As for winter, that's a ways off yet, hopefully! (But I see some white stuff is forecasted for us next week here in central Canada. 😢) One day at a time. Oh, Jesus, I'm so sorry! I have severe allergies too, and it is so not good!! Best wishes for Malin and I hope they can get things under control sooner than later. Truly terrible, and these types of mistakes happen too often. I hate the hangover from all of the steroids, Benadryl, epinephrine, etc. It's truly miserable, but I've also been through it numerous times. Take care!!

I am so sorry you have been through this. The emotions you have are entirely natural and healthy. It is scary that this can happen and that you angry. The hospital team are probably horrified but it should never have been able to happen. I remain hopeful that you will be able to travel once this is sorted out. OMG....what a horrible ordeal. So sorry you had to experience this. Total lack of communication! Even after you told them you were suppose to have the dye solution orally! Stupid doctors. Maybe you can get one of those medical bracelets that says what you are allergic to and wear at all times. And if you have to go back in the hospital you can get a sharpie pen and write what you are allergic to on your arm....ha...that might be a bit too much, but you have to make sure this nevers happens again. Yesterday I had my first reaction to CT contrast and it was really scary! I have had 5 CT scans (3 with contrast) and a PET scan in the past 12 months due to cancer and other health issues, and I still need have to have a nuclear medicine bone scan and another CT scan, but my body is saying it has had enough. 😢 I am under the care of multiple specialists that wont work together and combine my scans or look at the results of previous scans (apparently its too hard for them to obtain them) so I have had to have repeat scans for different specialists. I have had a reaction and been exposed to too much radiation now so I need to advocate for myself. ❤

Please use your own understanding and refuse treatment if it is what it is. It's normal for these mistakes to happen in today's hectic medical world, and you don't have to put aside your own objections and trust yourself and your own judgment. It's a simple fact and even 10 doctors can be wrong if they work long shifts and have far too many patients and the pressure from their superiors to get quick results. Wish you all the best.

Wow Marlin as if you haven't been through enough they had to put you through more. I'm Sorry that happened to you , I know it's hard when Dr's are saying it's ok give it to her, you go along with it thinking you don't want to act like you know more then them but they could have potentially have taken you out with that BIG mistake! I live in Pennsylvania in the USA. I learned I was allergic to all kinds of IV dye when I had my 1st procedure, stroked, and near died. FF 2022, I was needing scans for surgery and they insisted in xray I had to get IV benadryl and get the dye so they could do my heart procedure right. At 1st I refused, but my heart was bad so I did it. My breathing pipe began to close, rash, so on. The head of surgical department said I should not have had it no matter what. Thank God I'm alive. My kids want me to sue them all, but I'm just glad I made it. (And yes, suit is in process) I'm so sorry this happened to you!! They need to heed patients when we tell them this important information. Love, hugs, and prayers to you hon❤

It does, but the IV do damage my liver and kidneys every time I get it. So having it still is a risk and can be life threatening even if it’s not a immediate reaction.

Hello Malin and Tom! I hope all goes well with the results you need! I was at LiL on Monday and Thursday with my daughter who had cut her hand so badly that she had to undergo hand surgery. Linköping has some real experts in the field, but now she is not allowed to do anything with her hand for the next 10 weeks and a long rehabilitation awaits. It's of course nothing that can be compared to what you are going through, but considering that Linköping is known for talented doctors,, I hope that is true, despite this "idiocy" you were exposed to!

I flatlined from an IV contrast, severe allergy, just like you. It is odd because I had the medication about 6 times previous with no problem, then all of a sudden my body reacted severly on the 7th time. I hope you are OK for both contrast and original problem. This video is helpful, thank you.

Very sweet , you 2. I’ve followed along a bit since just before your surgery, malin. This is the first time I felt an ease in you both telling it like it is -heavy for you both but for me just feeling the love you both have and the pain you, Tom, feel in seeing someone you love going through such a tough time. Marlin you have such INCREDIBLE strength. I think you are both very positive. Speaking about what went wrong and how you feel about the wrong doing is very positive as it's honest and enables you to solve the problems. And that's positive. I'm so sorry u are going thru all of this. Cancer is an arse hole. My travel has been on hold for over a year now as I had a family member with cancer. I have the same severe allergic reaction to the IV dye. I was told even after knowing this I could never, ever have that dye again. There was a time they wanted to do it in the ER with the same precautions that you had-because of the time the reaction broke through the steroids and allergy medicine the head of the hospital said No way. You have be such an advocate for yourself. You should get a medical alert bracelet with your allergies, especially with cancer they do so many of those CT scans. I hope you had a great birthday, I know you are sick, but sometimes you need just to celebrate you. Hope your getting better!!🙏🙏

Medical bills are expensive, even if it’s not your fault, they will try to bill you anyway for the unexpected extra services they had to provide to fix the life-threatening, issue that they caused weather, knowingly or unknowingly. Getting a lawyer onboard might be a good option at this point. It would probably be a good idea to even talk with a medical advocate, as well to help prevent this from happening to other people. Praying for you guys. 🙏

Aww so sorry you have had to go through this. Malin you have gone through so much and have been so brave this was probably the last straw. What an incredibly scary and frustrating experience you guys had in the hospital! Of course this should NEVER had happened period! Why didn't they listen to Malin...? Very relieved that they were able to prevent further damage to you... Hope that Mother and son had a fabulous birthday celebration at home with family and friends! I really miss the super tasty birthday cakes we have in Sweden... my favorite is "Princess Cake" and "Strawberry Whipping Cream Cake.
