I’m here for the story…enough said. But if one would honestly say, it’s sick to watch Ben surf. Not all of us can, for many different reasons. If I only had one working arm, I would still be out there. I have the scar to prove it.

I had this same injury and surgery. You’re going to come back fine from this, you’ll be 100% and I wish you luck. I had many injuries in my younger days that I did not take care of properly that have led to worse conditions now that I’m older (52). I’ve had 8 surgeries in as many years and have more to come. Don’t forget that you are A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE!!!!! If you don’t take care of your body and the small injuries as they occur you are shortening your shelf life. Great decision to go right in for the surgery, good luck and heal fast. Love the videos!!!

Take care of ur mind during this downtime! Focus on doing things you don't normally do. It's worked for me in the past. Old surfer and been lifting weights for 30 years, it makes me happy and when I had shoulder surgery and I couldn't not lift weights for over 6 months, it took away a part of me. I focused on other things I usually didn't do and that helped. We are always here for you!!

Sorry to hear it man, surgery is a bitch but I truly don't think I would be who I am in the water without the surgery I got on my arm. I got put out for 5 months and it was one of the hardest times of my life. Not to mention the 3 time I broke my collarbone unrelated to surgery. You got this, keep your head up, things will get better.

Injuries are part of life if you push the limits. I detached a retina at 10 years old (1962). Broke numerous ribs over the years. Almost drowned at Sunset Beach in the 70's. Shredded my MCL in a massive barrel. I'm 71 and headed to the beach later today. Best of luck to you. Time goes by. Maybe focus on helping others while you're out of the water. No matter what happens you will figure it out. Most importantly, try to relax and not worry to much. You've already experienced more awesome waves than most ever will. Aloha my brother. Take care.

Ben, I've never commented on your channel, nor most all others, but take it from a 56 yr old, recovering alcoholic who, from a car accident, has had probably 12+ surgeries, (11 months, 3 weeks , and a day in a hospital bed) with an ankle that's completely fused with ten screws, a bowed left leg with a much needed knee replacement, and life is still awesome. My wife tells me often, "it's not happening to you. It's happening for you." At times, that's a hard pill to swallow, but what my body allows me to do is all I have. That's life. Lean on your family for the support during the recovery. Today, I still surf, ride motorcycles, golf, and go shooting. Life is still good. You'll be tubed again before you know it, and that's one of the BEST feelings on Earth!!! Be well, and God Bless!!!!

As someone who has watched your videos for years and seen you through a lot of different injuries, I can tell how upset and devastated you are right now man. You always put out such a positive mindset man, but this time I think you need some help with it for once.. so just know your community is here for you man and will always support you and your dream. You have one hell of a bright light within you and God might be testing you right now but he never puts people through things they can’t handle especially with such an awesome community around you. Good luck, God bless and heal up man. You are destined for great things

I had this injury 2.5 years ago from dragging my arm to pivot out of a wave. Distal bicep tendon rupture. The good news is that i am 100% recovered after the surgery with no pain or side effects. The bad news...it took the full six months--or at least, I followed the doctor's advice and gave it the full six months before returning to surfing because above all I did not want to re-injure it. I'm 58 so it's possible you will recover more quickly, but my understanding is that full rupture takes six months for most people. It's just how long tendons take to grow. With doctor permission at 4 months I started doing 10lb curls and very slowly and carefully going up from there. My doctor was fantastic, Dr Orr Limpisvasti at the Kerlan Jobe sports medicine center, which is one of the country's top spots (Cleveland Browns tackle Jack Conklin was in the bed next to me about to get his knee fixed two days after his patellar tendon injury in 2021). Here were some of the things the doctor said: 1) You could choose not to do the surgery and accept some reduction in strength, but as an active person with many years ahead it's worth investing the recovery time because this is a surgery that gets you back to 100%. 2) He does not favor the method of drilling a hole in the bone and inserting the tendon because the tendon isn't round and leaves gaps that have to be filled by growing more bone. Instead, he creates a groove in the bone the shape of the tendon and stitches it into the groove (I may be describing this incorrectly but that's the idea). 3) These are tough situations because often you are prevented from doing the thing you love--the thing that defines you--while you recover. But it's also an opportunity to expand yourself, to engage in something new. Because as you get older, you WILL be injured again if you are active. So it helps to develop a fallback, not only for the physical activity but for the social aspect that surfing provides for a lot of us. The good news is you have your legs so you can stay in shape. So set goals for yourself for the next six months and inspire us all with videos of how you meet the challenge. Your fans will be here for that. Wishing you a speedy recovery and I can tell you once this is in the rear view mirror, you will be glad you invested the time.

Definitely get the surgery. Take it from this 62 year old, all those "insignificant" injuries you suffer in your 20's and 30's come back to haunt you if you don't take care of them right away. Gotta love the health care system. Insurance co. bean counters making medical decisions, overriding doctors. You've already been through an injury and recovered. You got this!!!

Super bummed to hear this Ben! Surgery is the only option. I tore my upper bicep tendon away from the shoulder, while dealing with a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Surgery fixed all of it and and I was back in the water in 8 months. This injury is common w/football players. You definitely want this dealt with ASAP! Many times its a career ender like tearing ACL's back in the 80's & 90's. Surgeons are so good these days, you'll be back in the water after rehab in less than 6 mos. if all goes well. Stay positive. Get well soon bro! 🙏🙏🙏

I have blown both biceps. Full distal ruptures in both. I am also a powerlifter so the strength retention was important to me. My advice was to allow it to heal. I took about 3 months to get back into the gym and I was back on a paddleboard in a week and a half (Im also a paddler and a foiler). I ended up probably losing about 5% of grip strength and that was ok, a lot depends on the rehab you go through and I was lucky to have a great team around me.

US health insurance is the worst in the world. What a shitshow it is. Luckily, you had the money to get the MRI and know what you are dealing with. Best wishes for the success of the procedure and then do what you need to do to get full recovery. Be Good. Do Good.

Bruh...You are so much more than your surfing. You just don't know it yet. As I got older, activities that I used to like to do got taken away from me little by little to the degree that I used to like to do them. I look at younger people that keep going hard and know that it is just a matter of time. These next few months are going to be a tremendous opportunity for you. I promise you that you are going to be so much better off when you come out of this. It's just tough right now, To be honest, I have been over the surfing content for a while. I don't say that lightly, because I know that you push hard. Your channel is a vibe and stoke channel and I always watched because of you...not surfing. Stay positive. and I look forward to your future content in whatever form.

Also be careful with words that you use, I heard you use the word “terribly, terrible” at least three or four times, the beginning of the word terrible is TEAR which is what happened you tore you tendons. Often the words we use show up as realities. Try to say what you want , not what you don’t want.

Hey Ben, Remember me? John from Nova Scotia? Sorry I haven't been watching much lately but I'm still subbed to you...since May 20, 2017...just sayin. Anyhow, I just watched this video and I'm gonna say a prayer for you but there's something you need to do. Every time you say "Universe" substitute that word with "God"...the creator of that universe. Pray to Him. The "universe" is not gonna help you...only God will. It's so interesting, I'm reading my Bible again, for the 5th time, and I'm in the chapter of Job. God let Satan have his way with him and he lost everything, his family, his livestock but he spared his life. In the end, Job got everything back and even more than he had in the first place because he trusted in HIm. That's all I've got to say Ben. Sorry if it's heavy on you. Have faith in Jesus and trust in God...just like your American $1 bill says... God Bless you and your family. Cheers, Your Old Friend and Still A Fan, John ;)

Bummer Ben! UGH! But it is not a surfing-ending injury. It is an interruption. A minor irritation. Many of the nubsters are praying for you, for a quick recovery. You are entertaining us, doing things we cannot do, going where we cannot go! And we love you. Your next video will be as inspiring as every other one you have produced for us so far. October 4, 2019 I crashed headfirst into the bottom after a backside lip launch! Fractured C1 and C2, tore a vertebral artery. Life flighted to Shand's Trauma Center in Gainesville, Fl. Should have died. In fact, I left my body, hovered above it. Saw my body floating face-down. Had a conversation with Jesus. He told me my work on earth was not finished. When I agreed to go back I was thrust back into that pain wracked body! Long story short? Out of the water for five months! But I am back. Getting ready to paddle out right now. Also listen up Nub nation, for the dream; I celebrated my 76th birthday a week ago! And a friend bought me a brand new Donald Takayama 8'0" In The Pink! Yes, my friends, the quality of your life in not determined by what happens to you, but by how you respond to it! The next unknown blessing is about to overtake you! Keep your eyes and ears open so you don't miss it! Mahalo ke Akua! Aloha Nubsters! Thanks again for sharing Ben.

Injuries suck! I almost died from a bazaar nose bleed in my sleep from banging into a door earlier that day. Compressed my C6 & C7, and still after ten years have numbness in the left thumb and index finger. Especially numb after a day rock climbing. Let me say that I don't even surf. (Well, i have but barely.) I watch your channel because you're still out there afer an injury doing it another way. I'm an old man at 69 and you inspire me with your drive, enthusiasm, and tenacity. My husband has been surfing for over 50 years and I have grown to appreciate the sport from the shoreline. Its super fun to watch you surf - but really special to see your artistry in your videos, gear etc expand and evolve as you go along. Keep on, keepin on! Your identity is not in surfing - its an important facet of yourself - but you bring much more to the table! Hope this helps you a little while you take the time to recuperate. Arm wrestlers get this all the time. No stress. They’ll attach it a tiny bit shorter and you’ll be 💯 percent stronger on the bicep. You’re going to be fine brother.

Brah!!! You get this! I’m 60, still on mend from meniscus repair last April, my 4th shoulder surgery this last November, of the over a dozen orthopedic surgeries. I’ve caught one wave in the last 2 years. My 💔is dying without the ocean and surfing. Surfing got me through the last 50+ years….I really need it to get me through now. 🙏🙏🙏s brah that it’s a quick, full recovery, you don’t need any more parts fixed, and you’re in da waves asap. 💪🤙🤙

Been watching your journey since the days of the ratchety 4Runner. You’ve come so far, worked hard and deserve the success you’ve had. Injuries suck but you’ll get through this. Your followers, the waves and future adventures aren’t going anywhere. Taking care of yourself is the right thing to do. 🤙🏼

Hang in there Ben! It's going to recover but it's going to be a tough couple months. I freaking love surfing and gave up the chance to surf everyday for the opportunity to go back to school. If I can get in the water once every two months I'm lucky. It definitely makes me appreciate every moment in the ocean more. Hopefully you''ll be jamming the guitar in no time to help with the healing!

You got this brother! I ignored an absolute plethora of injuries in my youth. Ended up on disability at 36 years old. I'm 50 now and it's such a battle to remain functioning. But I still build, fight through the pain and have been able to at least be able to get out in the water. You inspired me to fight harder to get back in the water after almost 6 years out. You always talk about taking care of yourself mentally and to be an advocate to take care of yourself physically is just as important. You will thank yourself later in life many many times. Godspeed
