True, and God gave Him (Chuck) vision for the Master's flock. Brodersen took it another "seeker-friendly" $$$ direction with and "earthly vision". Now his immediate flock and pastors are not prepared for what is happening. No prophecy talk and no rapture talk. Not good. Yes follow the Master and not the Pastor BUT don't throw Hebrews 13:7 & 17 out with the bathwater. That is what Brodersen did in Chuck's last days and it continues. And how do we fit Chuck into the line up as the flock DID follow: David, Noah, Moses, David, Prophets, Apostles, etc (all who had "the vision" of God)? Maybe we can say "Follow Da Man Wid Da Plan." Broderson had his own agenda. I know, I went to a local "Brodersen" church. YiKes! Great comment Pooh!
This is misleading. I think Mike Macintosh was referring to the CCA conferences, not speaking to the flock as you show in the last clip. Either way I dont think pastor Chuck would care. When he would walk out to the pulpit at church and people would clap, one time he said "stop it" because he told us so many times before it made him uncomfortable. He never wanted to take attention away from Jesus and the gospel
I'm not well versed in this "movement" at all, but based on what I DO know but as it relates to your last statement where you said this pastor who has passed on "didn't want to take attention away from Jesus and the gospel"?!? UR kidding me? I thought the church was to keep the world OUT of the church instead of bringing it IN to the church. By the way, I'm right on that, and with that said, the focus and attention and what draws many to this "movement" is just that, the world.
I have absolutely no idea what youre trying to communicate here, but just to reiterate, the focus at Calvary Chapel has always been teaching the word of God, verse by verse both old and new testaments. By virtue of doing this, the focus in not on what one pastor or individual wants to teach, but the whole counsel of God will be taught. If you're interested in the facts, theres a book as well as a number of videos on YT that discuss Calvary distinctives.
@Jci Financial Yes, very sad. I stayed thru the transition to Brian Broderson. Stayed for a few years. Slowly watching the congregation die and disappear. Brian immediately removed anything associated with Pastor Chuck. It went from 3 services, to two, to only a handful of people meeting outside during the pandemic(so I was told). I'm surprised that Cheryl Broderson, who loved her dad so much, and vise -versa, would go along with Brian's direction. When Brian pastored Calvary Chapel of Vista, he was a good teacher I thought. But he seemed to have changed after his England stay. I can't even stand to listen to him on "To every man an answer". His condescending arrogance is too much. Last week I listened to him mock and laugh at Chuck Missler on the radio. Ben Courson was right there joining in with him. I don't see the spirit of love and humility. Sad, Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa could seen another great movement had it's new leader humbled himself.
How much wood could a chuck chuck chuck???? I went to a Calvary Chapel for awhile...I tried to find out where all the money was going because it was a huge church with a lot of upper middle class people and I was tithing at the time. Nope...ZERO transparency...not even their accountant would tell me..
Did you ever see the huge book in the lobby of all the missionaries we support, Bible colleges that were founded (BTW the tuition for said colleges was amazingly affordable for 20 year old etc trying to follow a calling we had on our lives, and yes I worked pt when I went there), not to mention all the free events that were/are held (Good Friday at Irvine Amphitheater, free 70's cc music reunion at the Honda center). As a child that grew up in that church I never saw any leaders asking for money especially Pastor Chuck, he was one of the most generous men and he would always say "where God guides He provides" and that CC was the Lord's and that He knew it's needs. My heart is still broken and confused about leadership's actions after Chuck's passing. He knew he was going to pass and that there'd be contention why did he leave stuff up in the air? Where is Kay Smith? She was a HUGE part of CCCM, where was her input in all this? I love Cheryl but part of me has a check because of this. I guess we won't know until we're with our Lord but probably won't care then. We are called to be fruit inspectors and we will see what fruit comes from all this, but in my heart it feels like a divorce and a betrayal from men & women I've respected my whole life.
Piazza , Kay Smith passing and may I say for many many years had a wonderful woman study with questions, speakers, paper study guides, and all were donation or for those in need no fee. Parking free, and all the teaching was understandably top notch organized clear. And for the man trying to find the $ just ask the account office ...
Anybody remember the appalling rudeness and disrespect with which Elisabeth Elliot was treated when she was a guest speaker at the CC Women’s Friday AM Fellowship?
don't worry kiddos , greg laurie and brian broderson have the REAL pope to present at calvary, the ancient catholic one! thank you so much guys now we can all sing koom bi ya and all get our love beads at the end of the service!
It would be hard to call CC Distinctive’s heretical. I do think that their view of works playing a role in salvation misses the mark and that the “process” they have actually turns you onto the narrow path of the theology that was emphasized in the Reformation. So it can’t be that bad.
This may be a misdirection, i don't know Mike's heart...I was there at the pastors conference and I felt the same way. Remember, they gave Brian a chance to lead this event despite he was "One" of many men chosen to oversee the CCA. They passed up Paul Smith to attend for Brian's sake so their wouldn't be any quarrels...as the scripture says "wisdom is proved right by its children" shortly afterward Brian ended up leaving the CCA and "chose not" to give calvarychapel.com to CCA because he wanted to lead the movement....Unfortunately he has a new vision and probably had it before the death of Chuck Smith. You can take a crack at Mike, but in the long run (way after this video clip) he is totally right!
Greg Laurie describes just exactly where Chuck Smith went wrong. A pastor should be a Titus 2 individual. Chuck gave them churches! That’s why so many have fallen! I’m sooo over the “spirit dove” logo church.
