This week, we continue our dive into the Sermon on the Mount, Yeshua's radical Kingdom Ethic.
As we explore the Beatitudes, we'll discover the meaning behind "blessed are those who mourn." Yeshua's sermon was meant to give all people hope and a standard to determine what it looks like to actually enter the Kingdom of Heaven and pledge loyalty to your "citizenship in Heaven." In a time when those oppressed under the Roman empire had no hope for the future, Yeshua encourages them, letting them know they are closer to entering God's rest than those "on top." As He quotes Isaiah 61, which gives hope to those who mourn in exile, Yeshua applies that to all who find themselves without being pushed down, exploited, and taken advantage of. He gives these words of encouragement to those who mourn the state of the world as it is now.
This message offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of what it means to be blessed, as Yeshua says in the Sermon on the Mount. It also teaches what Jesus meant when He said, "Blessed are those who mourn."
