What a close game, really goes to show at the high level some of these games can always feel like you’re on the brink of losing. He keeps his cool throughout though, really the mindset of a champion.
14:40 attacking into a choke with widow mines and basically lost nothing to widow mines. Wow. Serral took the engagement at the right time, Clem was burrowing 3 of them at the front so they died instantly. The one at the back that did go off went on a single ling that he split off. 15:00 Very next engagement, he splits off 1 ling to take the widow mine shot again. Insane.
I dont remember drilling claws/non drilling claws burrow speed, but the "acquisition" time for a widow mine is 1.07 seconds last i checked. So even if drilling claws is a two second burrow, Serral had three seconds to take that fight and kill the widow mines. And if he mistimes it, hes losing the whole damn army. Kinda crazy how tight the margins are at that level. Edit: WM take 2 15 to 2.5 sec to burrow, and drilling claws halves those values. So 3.57 seconds, absolute max. And serral found that window.

The changes they made last patch already made it more difficult - the new changes will make it hard for Serral to vs Ghost / Mech, but mean that he might use them for bio more regularly (range returning to what it was).
Have you ever done a video like "Top 5 biggest tournament blunders" about misplays from some of the best players? That could be an interesting video, I think. Times when the Serrals, Marus and Heros of the world accidentally move-command their army into a fight, got 50 supply blown up by 10 banelings or Psi Stormed their own units on the big stage, things like that.

lol, He's obviously significantly better than me but when I was seeing those big bio balls swinging around my mind immediately went to infestor, too. I was hoping he'd make some when he got a moment to breathe
Watching Serral first person view vs Clem first person view just makes me think that Terran is way harder than Zerg. This looked so chill and easy for him to do run-bys and cause chaos etc. I mean Serral is amazing but this looks way easier to execute than what Clem has to do on the other side. Killing SCV's soo easy compared to Clem trying to kill drones.
Even back in 2018 when Serral rose to top level, I was wondering how he would do in GSL, how many he would win. He never played in GSL, but one can hope, right? For example now GSL S1 2024, how he would do against SHIN, Soo, Stats, Classic, Dark, Nightmare, Creator, Solar, herO. I would feel sorry for any terran that faces off against Serral.
There is one big fundamental flaw with ranged ground units like Marines and that is they can shoot straight past each other while in a big ball formation completely avoiding friendly fire. It looks absolutely ridicoulus when they run and shoot in turns without having to line up to not hit each other. Melee units like Zerglings on the other hand need direct contact and also stop to be able to attack, they cant leap over each other even though such small and fast creatures seem agile like cats.
Watching this game if anything gives me more appreciation for Terrans and Protoss. The whole game PiG is trying to hype it up as if Serral is losing while he's up 2 bases and vision of the entire map. Not to mention he can just play zerg bane (which has the fastest unit speed) while terran is building units out of racks, factory and starport. Idk how people can look at this and say this is balanced.
Dude Zerg is so weak vs Terran without winfestors there is no way Zerg can win how people can think Zerg is op is just insane. Clem can be aggressive all game just spamming marine medivac and serral just has to defend the whole game. It’s totally imbalanced Terran is op.
Lol Serral defends because hes a defensive player. Dark v Clem is a completely different dynamic. Serral has the highest ZvT elo of any matchup in the history of SC2 AND just got a massive buff with infestor range + widow mine nerf.
